Our Honest Thoughts - 2023 Suzuki RM-Z 250 & RM-Z 450
Presented by O'Neal
New bike season is slowly coming to an end, but not before we took delivery of the 2023 Suzuki RM-Z 250 & RM-Z 450. Although the bikes come into the new year completely unchanged, again, we agree that the industry is better as a whole with Suzuki involved. That said, SML test riders Kyle Vara, Rene Garcia, and Gary Sutherlin spent a day at Glen Helen Raceway on the yellow machines and did their best to get them dialed in stock trim. Press play to hear our test riders honest opinions of the Suzuki's!

Right now with the prices, the suzuki is a very good option for the weekend warriors. You are saving 2k to 3k in most cases, and the bike is very basic and reliable. That's what the sport needs now, make it affordable.

Never had a problem on my 2014 but heaps on my 03 125
I rode the Suzuki , and as a vet rider the bike is fantastic . The handling and predictable nature the chassis was an eye opener. The motor is good , and solid. And doesn’t upset the nature of the bike .
I really like this bike, I saw a brand new 2023 Suzuki RM-Z250 out front of a dealer and I instantly fell in love. I’m going to go purchase it today. Also comes with a free Yoshimura Exhaust System and a Throttle Syndicate RM Army Edition Graphics Kit, both of which I didn’t know about until I contacted the dealership about the bike. Everyone bashing Suzuki for not innovating every year is nothing new. Everyone was complaining when they didn’t make any changes a year after they made a lot of changes. This bike isn’t for everyone, If you’re competitive and in it for the races and competitions then ya maybe don’t get this bike right now until they innovate more. Me? I just ride around trails near my house for fun, so this is the perfect bike for me. Cars don’t innovate for almost 12 years and people still buy them new.

Congratulations on your new bike .... Awesome Suzuki 💛
Great bikes, easy to ride and I honestly prefer them to e-start. No battery issues and they are soooo easy to kick.
Back when the Earth was still flat I rode Suzuki RM 125's - the models from 89, 90, 91, 92 & 02. Their handling, light feel and ability to turn on a dime was epic - paired with some great engines and great reliability. They were just sooo fun to ride...😎
Great bikes. Still super competitive at the local level. When I stall mid-moto, I do wish I had an estart, but not a big deal if you're not chasing points and just out riding practice.
Bought a 22 and knew I was gonna have to re-spring it when I walked out of the showroom. $350 and like magic it rides so good for a weekend warrior. I will not be getting rid of mine LOL!
Zuk's for the win! Always look like their going fast, sitting still. We can't all be pro riders.
Reading most of the comments from others towards the Suzuki's reminds me just how many people complain just to hear themselves complain and would probably complain if they were to win the lottery and have to pay taxes on the money after winning but most of you complaining about their bikes bothered to watch the video anyway.
A lot of people hate on the Suzuki for not changing and being dated but the sport needs bikes like that. Keeps the sport open to different financial situations not just a full blown money sport
Oh yeah “ The World Is a Happier place with Suzuki in it”
Suzuki two strokes would be sick. And I have a 2012 rmz450 that I got with 4 hours on it in 2014. It now has well over 120hrs prolly with nothing but oil changes and a complete suspension rebuild. Couple chanin sliders and a set of chain and sprockets. I beat the shit out of it at tracks trails local races here and there and sand pits and it’s never given me and issue starts everytime time in 2 kicks. One if it’s at tdc

@@jackracher69 you’re consumer-based view is inhibiting your ability to understand from a business perspective- Suzuki is still a very profitable business. They are not falling apart by any means, just their motocross bikes have fallen to be their least profitable. If they were to be acquired or even merged with another manufacturer, they can allocate resources differently to control the market. For instance, if Yamaha bought Suzuki, they could put their resources into tech updates on their motocross line, and market Suzukis as economic bikes for entry level riders while Yamaha continues its path on larger tech updates. They would control both sides of the market in that case, which no other manufacture is doing. KTM was the smartest in that regard when they acquired gas gas and husky. It’s a strategic move, and they could repair the Suzuki brand image in the process and really blow up.
Great review, Swapmoto crew!!
People love to talk shit on Suzuki, but those bikes are just fine. Get the suspension done, possibly change the exhaust, maybe new linkage ans handlebars. 99% of riders, aren't elite level and never will be. They wouldn't even use the full power of a RMZ450.

The more years go by, Suzuki is becoming more different to the other OEM’s. As their bike prices spiral year on year, the RMZ offers a great alternative that if most riders were honest, is more than enough bike for almost anyone. I love my RMZ450, I’m on a 2018 model with some Ohlins and a vortex ignition and it’s honestly so comfortable to ride.
Great test guys! Riding Suzuki since 1976! Would love to have a new RMZ 250 under my Suzuki tent with my two RM 125s!
I think they look great. I'd try one
honestly this video has made me consider a zook 4 stroke now...
It would be cool if Suzuki implemented an e start while also keeping the Kickstarter. Would really set them apart. Tm did that with their 250 mx models.
Don't bother, watching. It takes until 2mins in to find out there are no changes.
I have always liked the RMZ, and owned a 2007 and 2017 250. My brother has the 450. I would buy one in a heartbeat so long as I got the discount. One thing I don't get is just how hard-headed or deaf their engineers or management must be to keep making these bikes with overly-stiff fork spring rates. Everybody points this flaw out and the Suzuki people could fix this so easily by just specing out the light spring for the next production run. That alone would solve much of the negative comments in these reviews and cost them NOTHING.
Both my old 125s were Suzuki's, a 98 and an 01 and they handled like a dream. Bring back the braaps!

Which was the biggest reason I switched to a Zook..was local dealership I had a long time working relationship simply didn't feel like they could of cared either Way... which both shops sold . Three of the big four Jap scraps.. Actually who I started dealing with as far as bike purchases had all four. .. Used to chase contingency Cash. Don’t understand why you are riding them, they are made for people who have just come out the military and wanna ride because they rode them when they were kids or the cheapest when buying new or a first time rider. These bikes are not race ready you can get a complete factory suzuki and it wouldn’t even compare to a stock Yamaha abs that’s the truth. If they managed to drop 15 pounds while adding another 5-6hp more power from bottom to top and make the over Rev unbelievable while having electric start and a balanced chassis as you need to spring it automatically when buying it then they would have a number 1 bike. They don’t even need to change the chassis just the listed things and change their audience to race ready and they will win championship no doubt. Or they can continue to make the same bike for the next 10 years or bring a new version of a 2 stroke out from 65-500 and move away from racing to bringing happiness
