Dave Coster's fishing diary in the Anglers Mail, has got to be up there! The hand drawn comic book storylines. Always remember one story of him bagging loads on tench on No4 Elastic on the Pole, over a big bed of Van Den Eynde Expo ground bait, and his session being ruined by car thieves breaking into his Ford Sierra! Classic late 80's fishing!

Mr Crabtree - By Bernard Venables. Brilliant Mr Crabtree and his son Peter always went fishing very smart, Mr C in a suit and Trilby and Peter in his school uniform complete with cap. They always caught a specimen of whatever species they went fishing for. Me and my mate mark used to quote large chunks of the text at each other whilst fishing. Priceless memories.

Trying to work from home whilst listening to Andy’s impressions of Alan Scotthorne has made my day. Lovely trip down memory lane this one. I remember watching fishing more or less on repeat on discovery shed when my brother and I bought a house together. An hour or so before work and then put it back on as soon as we got back in the evening. If you timed it right you could pick up where you left off on rod race and at the weekend it was all John Wilson. Can’t beat a bit of ‘Come to daddy’.

John Wilson they laugh will stay with my forever he was before my time but still watched as many as I could. My favourite was stalking carp with a lob worm and said stealth is key and then fell in loved the outtakes.

John Wilson will always be the man on fishing. So much that a mate got the full set of his old videos on dvd from a charity shop for £3.99. First thing he did was watched the lot then told me about them. Watched most but not all at the moment but watched the ones about the fish i go for. Amazing man with a wide range of knowledge not just fishing. Birds, insects, plants, location, history. I aimed to be like him as a kid.

Matt Hayes Mick Brown were mandatory watching in our house on Saturday mornings. My Dad taught me fishing on Rochford res for 1d a fish and I remember having to give out trophys at club night in the pub. My dad me and my boys used to go on fishing outings when they were little and I now find myself taking my eldest son and his boy on similar days. You cant beat it 3 generations on the bank!!

Inspiration for me was Jack Hargreaves (Out of Town and Old Country) long before John Wilson. First proper fishing TV program I remember I think was called The Fishing Race which was a species hunt for The Golden Maggot trophy. First match fishing on TV was Hooked presented by Jack Charlton and Pete Thompson. A series of knockout matches featuring all the top anglers of the day. I remember one series on Longleat which inspired me to actually fish the place myself. First main videos were by Clean River Fishing. Again all the top anglers featured showing individual methods in detail. One example here. How young does Polly look 🤣🤣 kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6mp0pqNfZDVnLw.html

I was lucky to meet quite a few celebrity angler's the first was Dickie Carr, he totally changed my match fishing. We talked about caster and hemp and preparing lines, this lead to a lot of match win's pre commercial carp fishing. Ian Heaps and I discussed other celeb angler's and his thoughts about them, he mentioned a video that's still out there where he fished with Wilson, they had set up next to each other and Ian was bagging on his line and shared the knowledge with Jon who came a meter closer in and fed heavier and proceeded to catch slab's one a chuck, Ian one of the best angler's in the world at the time, asked Jon why he had done what he did to catch the larger fish? Jon (laughing) explained that he had been watching him and had noticed the feeding of these larger fish on that slightly closer line (using water craft) so fed and fished according and out-fished a champion, with what some would call crooder tactics. Ian Heaps explained laughing about the memory explained his frustration at watching this, as he described him a master angler work his magic.

Pleased you mentioned Dave Berrow & Dave Harrell. I watched Dave Berrow catching on the Shropshire Union in a winter match and he was phenomenal, literally 3 or 4 gudgeon every minute. There was a period when he was virtually untouchable on canals. And I think I learned more about river fishing watching Dave Harrell on The Severn in Shrewsbury than probably anyone else. Frank Barlow was also inspirational for me, loved his articles in Angler's Mail. I was delighted one day to draw next to him on the Shropshire Union and it was a laugh a minute, and I'd never seen anyone take a piss in the canal whilst smoking a cigarette and still fishing with an 11m pole!

Chris Yates / Bob James Rex Hunt Des Taylor Ian Heaps Bob Nud Matt Hayes / Mick Brown All watched on repeat!! Passion for Angling is still by far one of the most beautiful programmes I have seen. So glad you gave Will Raison a big-up. Obviously he's one of England's best match anglers. Beyond that he's a top guy to the everyday noob (me). I lived on the Surrey/Hampshire border aged 9-18 and my Dad driving me to Northcamp to visit Raisons (tackle shop) was part and parcel of my early fishing days. Soon after trips to Willow Park and Gold Valley appeared on my schedule and I've had some blinders there. Best thing about Will, he still opens the gates at 6/7am, greets you like an old mate even though you're just pleasure fishing, shares tips and is genuinely a sound bloke. Same with his dad John and a special mention to Angie who runs the onsite tackle shop and never forgets a name, even if you've not been for several years. It's end of an era for me as I'm moving from London to Staffs in the next few months (see you at Cudmore chaps). Before I do, will be sure to spend a day, or maybe 24 hours at GV and thank them all for giving me so much pleasure.

Super video and great memories. My greatest influence was Ray Mumford, sadly departed and unfortunately I think there was only 1 short film about him and his brother. Had the greatest times on the circuit in the late 70s early 80s when Ray joined Farnborough AS, fishing Nationals, Winter leagues, East Anglian cups etc. Once you got to know him, he was a lovely man much misunderstood, one of a kind. Will Raison is a fantastic guy, met him at an angling show 2 years ago in Enniskillen. Chatted about the old days in Farnborough and then he put me onto his father, John, for a natter on his phone. Remember him as a wee kid on his trike 40plus years ago, now I learn from him and his angling peers. Sorry about the ramble but you 2 guys really capture what fishing for me is about. Thanks

I have met a few of my fishing heroes Bob Nudd opening a tackle shop in Sheffield, Ian Heaps after I fished his place near Narberth amazing venue. Sat and had a pint with Alan Scothorn at Hayfield asking me how I fished the lake. My fav was Matt Hayes love his chub fishing.
