For me, netting a fish each chuck gets boring very quickly. Fishing should be a battle of wills between the fish and the angler.

That’s the difference between commercials and natural venues.

The ideal match weight imo opinion is 1oz more than the 2nd placed angler.

Arrans Lake is still going. My Club Morfax fished it. Our top weight for a 6hr match was 798Lbs with backup weight in the 4 and 500 Lbs, This was with 13 fishing. Great chat lads.

I’d love to catch over 100lb. I’m still chasing. 40lb of skimmers in a 3hr evening match and 93lb is my best weights.

When I stopped fishing early 2000 a good match weight for us average club boys would be 40-50lb, we all had a chance all match long and it was a great laugh. Been back 4 years teaching my little lad and the monster weights put me off trying my hand at a match. I don’t have the knowledge to effectively deal with high carp stock waters so I’ll watch you amazing guys doing it and use what I learn for better pleasure sessions. Thanks for the brilliant videos.

If carp, F1's, barbel and tench are in, I'd say 150lb would be enough for me. I reckon if you're filling 5 keepnets, at the apparent average limit of 60lb/net, at 300lb, that's more than enough. If it's smaller silvers, 25lb would be a dream, a 100lb bag of slabs would be too.

Lol i remember over 20 year ago getting 189lb of carp in 2 nets! Crazy day. First net had over a ton and trust me those 2 nets took some dragging out. How things have changed!

Used to be a time when I’d dream of going to Ireland, and a chance to catch 100lb. Today I can literally travel a mile and there’s 3 venues where 100lb is easy 😳

Not a fan of carp commercials. Sooner try and catch 25 - 30lb of silvers, I think it's more technical but each to their own, as long as you enjoy it.

Izaak Walton fishery in Stafford used to produce stupid weights all summer I once came 3rd with 204lb but it was mainly large carp

@scottessery100 Paul used to get a bad press but I thought he was brilliant when Alistair had it, it became a busier fishery but Als my age and from right by me so we used to get on very well but I went a couple years ago with 5 of my mate and my autistic son who loves to watch me fish the new owner George wasn't very polite he charged me for my son full price saying he's gonna use my toilet he charged me to hire an unhooking matt although that wasn't on the rules on the website and being a mat h fisherman I always return them in the net I told him this and basically got called a liar he then moaned at 5 of us for not buying his pellets again never specified fishery pellets on website and then he over charged me for two bacon sarnies and then I found out afterwards I was told by another angler the pool we were on (canal) had been netted the biggest fish in there at the time was 3lb so why would I need an unhooking mat? Was my most favourite venue but after that experience I won't be returning

Next challenge has to be 18m plus floating pole. Make this happen!!!

I'd say 150lb , 200lb max that way nobody needs loads of keepnets . Which some people can't afford . I can remember back when drayton started getting massive weights , I heard that people started using landing net handles with elastic in to get the carp out and build there weight .

depends on the water my old canal had winning weights of over 150ib on some 4hour matches these days there lucky to get 5ib on same venue ( mostly tench on the old big weights )

years ago i fished on the mukno pairs in ireland that year it fished its head off you could draw any peg and honestly catch 50lb of roach on a whip. Then ive fished commercials were 350lb plus have won my personal best is 229lb and only really caught properly in the last part of the match. My ideal weight id say on a commercial would be 150lb of mixed species F1s, ide, odd carp, barbel a lovely days fishing. Best venue has to be monkhall Hawk, Buzzard, Swallow, Lark any of those

I'd say about 150lb as a comp weight would be great, still a great mixed days fishing, but also allows people that don't have 10 keep nets to participate and have a hope of winning. It is literally pointless entering comps with 200lb winning weights unless you have 5 keep nets available to you. i think this shuts the door for a lot of people starting before they get the chance.

Great watch, it's interesting to listen to their views. I'm not a commercial fisheries angler, prefer more natural venues. For me its not about the weight but being able to compete from wherever you've drawn.

Yes this is a hard one for me lol in a match i want to catch as much possible lol like that 1000lb todber but i am not bringing 16 nets with me lol but getting a very big weight on the river where u really have to work for it

Sometimes yes, for commercial I'd say 100lbs, for a river I'd say 15lbs, for a canal 10lbs.

Remember fishing a match when I was about 14 at a place called new lands hall in Essex, 100lb weights were common and I caught 86lb, I thought that was an absolutely huge weight. For me species dependant circa 100lb is a great weight for me it's more fishing instead of just catching

Winning weight from 80lb to 150lb is great then more people are involved in the match

This is why I like fishing oaks on cedar anything up to 60lb ish in winter and anything up to 150lb / 180lb in summer with the odd 200lb. I would like to have a go on the new match lakes but only to say I’ve done it but other than that no thanks.

the problem with commercial fisheries these days is they are way to overstocked, making big weights to easy to catch. i read somewhere a guy caught 1000.81lb in a match at Todber Manor and he didnt fish the last 35 mins because he ran out of bait, lol.

My best weight is 168 lb from bennies at lunchtime an I've been fishing for over 50 years but I'm quote happy catching 40 to 80 pound so tight lines 🎣🎣🎣⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍

I fished Alders Farm Fishery in Bedfordshire and caught 80 carp in one days fishing averaging 4lb. Its a fantastic venue and the people there are really knowledgeable. If you want to know anything about fishing Trevor Price is the man at Alders Farm.

In the mid 80s I came third in a 50+ peg open match with 2oz! Second place pipped me with 3oz and the winner had a massive 9oz 😂 How times have changed lol. To be fair it was a terrible match and awful weights even back then

Hi lads my thoughts on best average waits! Is when it hard going I'm winter about 40 to 60 lb for the win and when it warm and ther having it 200 plus about rite

200lb max. Great day fishing. And you can split the fish across 4 nets. I like looking back at the old WW videos. The evolution of J & A’s fishing methods and how their thinking has changed is evident - even in that relative short time frame. And even better when you look at the MAP films. 😂😂

I think weights are going crazy nowadays compared to years ago and like I've heard from you guys as well as other well known anglers it's not as enjoyable now when you have to go after a big weight to win whereas years ago like you lads said 50 to 100 pound would win. Loved hearing your thoughts on the subject lads. By the way is Matty a permanent member of ww extra now

80lb - 120lb I'd consider a good day's fishing, 200lb for a mega day... Anything over that can be classed as exercise 🤣
