Our first visit to Efteling Theme Park in the Netherlands!
We just added another reason that we are so happy with our decision to move from the United States to the Netherlands! The Efteling Theme Park!!! Join us as we discover the wonder and magic of this fairytale theme park located in Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands! It has even been rumored that Walt Disney visited (and “borrowed/stole” ideas?) from this enchanting park before opening Disneyland. One of the big differences is that unlike corporate Disney, the Efteling is all heart and a whole lot of magic without draining your savings account!
If you visit of live in the Netherlands, please do yourself a favor and make time to visit de Efteling Theme Park! You won’t regret it!
Thank you for watching!

"One of the big differences is that unlike corporate Disney, the Efteling is all heart and a whole lot of magic without draining your savings account!" Considering that it is probably the most expensive theme-park in the country, that says something about the costs of Disney.
Efteling is based on the original European fairy tales by the brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Mother Goose, plus some of the 1001 Arabian Nights. Disney made his own versions of them later on. The design of Efteling was made by the famous Dutch illustrator/painter Anton Pieck. Who is actually also responsible for the internationally famous image of the garden gnomes (again, not the Disney ones) with the red pointy hats.

I think you are mixing and amalgamating Anton Pieck with Rien Poortvliet, Anton's illustrations are nostalgic of the early days of the Netherlands and romanticized versions of the small town life in the villages and the Efteling Aesthetic is based of and designed by him and Rien is who illustrated the Wil Huygen books about the lives of the Kabouters or gnomes as they are known internationally... They both are a national pride and their legacy is a treasure for generations to come but they are 2 different people.

@@ThatGuyGabeToo I did mix them up a few times in the past as well.. both Dutch legends I'd say :D Wasn't "David de Kabouter" (partly) from Rien Poortvliet? Man those trolls were scary when I was just a few years old :P

UnDisneyfied..
Tip for next time: the boat tour is a good quiet interlude, to recover from the wild rides or all the standing in line, and to eat your brought-from-home lunch while enjoying the flowers along the banks. Droomvlucht is really special! I really don't like rollercoasters, but there is quite enough to do in the park to fill an entire day even without going in any of the nausea-inducing rollercoaster rides. Droomvlucht, Fata Morgana, Symbolica - those are lovely; and both the water-ride in the giant round tyres & Villa Volta have proven safely non-nauseating and non-terrifying for me.
I think everybody in the Netherlands has been to the Efteling as a kid, so we all have nostalgic childhood memories of the Efteling. It's part of growing up here.

Nope, we couldn't afford it when I grew up in the 1970s and '80s. And that was when the cost of entry was a fraction of what it's now. First time I went there in fact was for a company 'team building' day in 1997. Not my thing, maybe in part because of the forced "having fun together" component of such days. My parents took us to Avonturenpark Hellendoorn instead. Smaller, cheaper, and closer to home for us as well. And lots of fun for children.

We live close to the park so yes, it was about a yearly tradition. I remember from before the big rides were built, when it was just the fairy tale forest and going to the playground after that. Back then a ride on the pedal trains was our highlight of the day. I also remember visiting when the tv show Ter Land, ter zee en in de lucht was recorded there.

My favorite ever 'attraction', if you can even call it that, is het Sprookjesbos. It's what the Efteling was built around and still the one thing I will ALWAYS want to visit in the park.

I had the same problem Eric had with vogelrok, I was dizzy the entire day so I really felt for him. Next time definitely check out Fata Morgana and Droomvlucht! Those are really safe rides that you'll want to go on multiple times. Also the steamtrain, monorail and gondola's are perfect for having lunch in.

Efteling is historical. Actually Disney is based on it. Dive more into the Dutch history. Visit Delta works in Zeeland. Get dressed warm, because it's quite windy there. There's a museum over there that learns you about how the Dutch fights against the water, but you can also see it in real.

This born and raised Tilburger is happy to see you enjoyed our park.
Good to hear you guys liked it, I always love the atmosphere at Efteling. So much eye for detail. And where other parks forbid bringing your own food, here they put picknick benches for people who bring food themselves. They make you feel welcome.
MUST GO: Gondoletta white boats; Fata Morgana; fairytale forrest when it's a quiet day; piranha on warm day. Python has got 2 loops but is a very soft comfortable seating for older people. I really loved the old dance macabre walk on scary music show... my first memory of st saents, but that is gone now. Droomvlucht and Villa Volta are also Must See. .. but the white boats are my favorite.. 20 minutes relaxing.. ducks and swans swimming up to your boat... nothing better.
Thank you for sharing!
So glad you loved the Efteling. Thank you for your fun videos.
Nice. Been years since I've been there. I always liked the fairytale part of the park the most!
What's so great about Efteling is that they really honour their past. Python is over 40 years old (it was Efteling's first rollercoaster and in 1981 the longest in mainland Europe) and instead of replacing it, in 2018 the track was completely rebuild (and made quite a lot smoother). The oldest parts of the park are 70 years old (in the Fairytale Forest) and meticulously maintained or (as is the case with the Mushroom Path now, rebuilt). They don't easily tear things down. (R.I.P. Bob!)

You too, Joyce!
Efteling also had a very fairytale hotel AND an awesome camping with the most cute bungalows to stay in, so you can do a whole weekend of Efteling!
Great video again! You two had a wonderful day as us followers already expected. I watched a video of a roller coaster fan from the USA who visited the Efteling as something from his bucket list. He liked the different rides but thought they were very short. His favorite was Villa Volta. Not a roller coaster or ride but also very special. Hope you will visit the park in winter style again and go to this attraction! Have a nice weekend.
Yes loved the video. Tammy is a daredevil 🙂 I love those rides too! There is something for every one. In summer can be a bit (too) crowded. Among all adventureparks this is the one with the most "Theme" being fairytales and Anton Pieck (drawing artist that worked out the original style)
Loved your video you guys! Brings back a lot of good memories! Droomvlucht is an all time fav and don't miss out on the Carrousel for a big dose of nostalgia.
I've been in many amusement park and the Efteling is really one of the best ❤️
Oh and you want to catch Aquanura at the end of the day. That's magical.
One of my favorites is the wooden rollercoaster "Joris en de Draak", but I do love both rollercoasters and wood constructions (and the combination of those is just amazing). And the "Python" just because I wasn't allowed in it as a young kid because I wasn't tall enough (1.40 meters at the time, I still remember very well..) my first time in the Efteling, but later went in all of the rollercoasters over and over again (front seat!) with my nieces 😆♥ Nice that you loved it too, and enjoy having those particular Efteling tunes stuck in your head forever 🤣
Funny that vogelrock was the one that did you in. I am very much not a rollercoaster enjoyer, going over the top or underground like the first one you guys did is something I avoid at all cost, but vogelrock actually is my favorite rollercoaster in The Netherlands! Yes you don't see anything, but to me the corners and ups and downs go so smoothly that you can inmagine yourself flying.
I'm going next week again gonna see winter efteling. Good to see you enjoying me home park.

You can also book a three day stay at the hotels. One is build like an "old" dutch town. the entry for the park is than free. It somewhat like Disneyland where you also have theme hotels, like a western town. Disneyland is readily available from Rotterdam central. Take the hi-speed (Thalys) train: it stops at the entry of Disneyland Paris.
As someone in an earlier comment stated the whole park has a special atmosphere, that is due one of the earliest designers Anton Pieck. You should really check the drawings of this man (easy to find on the web) and you will immediately understand where this atmosphere comes from.

Omg such a surprise!! You guys visited my favourite themepark in Europe!! Been there many times but from Groningen is such a long ride. We stayed many times in the hotel or the holidaypark from the Efteling which its also a fantastic experience. So sad you guy couldnt visit the mist populair attraction 'Dreamflight' i think next spring in 2023 they will open it again. Also Fata Morgana is fantastic!! Efteling is much bigger then Disneyland Paris. In the past it was a naturepark thats why its so big and beautiful. Did you jnow that Walt Disney visited Efteling and based Disneyland on the Efteling. He got inspired by it in the fifties. Efteling won the price of best themepark in the world. Thnx for the video!!
I really love the old merry go round they have indoors and also the museum part of the efteling, there is also a part with train dioramas I think they are called. I would watch it for hoooours as a kid
13:40 Yes! You should absolutely get passes. They are reasonably priced and you get to go whenever you want. I live about 30 minutes away and sometimes I go during the week (I work on weekends) to just relax and walk around the forest, maybe do a couple of rides. It always relaxes me!
Love the Efteling. If you want a discount on the tickets, Albert Heijn normally has a period where you can save up points and buy tickets on discount. I went there in August with my family after we hadn't been together for 2 years due to the pandemic. Even my 76 year old uncle came along. We were there at 11 a.m. and went home at 11 p.m. :-)
Awesome! Glad you liked it, for a lot of us there's a lot of nostalgia poured into the mix so people tend to get a little funny about it sometimes. I love the park, it's absolutely stunning and it has something for everyone, I feel 😊. We usually made it a yearly visit and it's always left me wanting more. Winter Efteling is magical, we where there at christmas holidays a few years ago.
It has been 3 or 4 years ago but in the at least ten years before that I went there every year with a friend, great memories with all the attractions and a waffle with whiped cream from the little shop infront of the wild water ride. Unfortunately It has become to hard to go because I'm in a electric wheelchair now and the transfers are just too hard. But I do mis it every summer. The last time I was in the vogelrok my stomach and I also had an argument, I wanted to go again but my stomach said No. Thanks for bringing back memories.

Yeah, we were bummed to learn that it was closed after hearing many great things about it!
YES! You went to our national pride: De Efteling! Respect that you went and rode the Baron;-) Anton Pieck was an artist who designed the Efteling when it started out. Everything that has been added since then still uses that inspiration to keep the design cohesive. Efteling is really big on the feeling, 'de sfeer' (like the Winterefteling) and, as so many have already said, it is a lot less commercial than Disney. It also helps that there is a lot of nature. All the trees give it so much character. Most children have so many fond childhood memories due to the Efteling, but me (as a 40+ lady), love it just as much in the present!🤫 Fairy-tale forest is the oldest part of the park, but still one of the highlights to me (next to Droomvlucht, Vliegende Hollander en Symbolica). Part of the experience is Ravelijn with a medieval dinner afterwards. This needs to be booked on the website (many, many weeks in advance), but a great way to end your day. Oh and lunch at the pannekoeken-restaurant (also, make a reservation). Should you ever go again, try to stay at the hotel for a night; makes it all complete & include Ravelijn (which is situated close to Droomvlucht). Also, close to Ravelijn & Droomvlucht is the crazy house with moving walls. Efteling is not a typical roller-coaster park. They added those to keep the park 'young', but you can see in those they also added that element of wonder/story/experience. Carnival truly is a kids attraction, much like Disney's it's a small world. Probably the reason why it came across as annoying.🤭 Try to squeeze in Winterefteling. Totally worth it!

Love the drawings of Anton Pieck
As a native Dutchmen, I've been to the park numerous (15+) times, but just recently gone to two easy to miss shows that I really now recommend. I used to think why watch a show while there is so much other nice interactive things to do in the parc, but I am so glad I finally got around to see them. So the first show is Ravelijn, which is a story involving a wild bird act, horse acrobatics and knight fighting scenes and animatronics. And the final show which I always dismissed is the water show that is at the time the parc closes and it is really spectacular. It at the lake, and it has water fountains and pyrotechnics and is musically supported by almost all the theme songs of the attractions in the parc and a really nice way to close off your visit and stay in that magical moment just a bit longer while leaving. I highly recommend them both, but if you can do only one pick the fountain show at parc closing time. Love the channel, and that you have found a home here with us.

I was hoping you would go to the Efteling. I love it there. Truly the happiest and most magical place on earth as far as I‘m concerned. If you don‘t like vogel Rok, perhaps skip Joris en de draak as well. It’s the roughest coaster in the park. Great if you enjoy being tossed around a bit. The monorail is quite nice. It’s like an outside dark ride through het land van laaf. Great to walk through as well, and see all the weird scenes in the houses. There is so much to see in the park! If you go to the madhouse “Villa Volta”, look at the vases on the side when you start to feel noxious, they are always the right way up. Droomvlucht is my favorite ride. I really hope they can fix it. The fountain show at the end of the day is such a nice closing experience. All the tunes from all over the park are used, and it rounds up the day with a impressive bang and splash. Why didn’t you do fata morgana? It is a nice calm boat ride through sights out of arabian nights. Now I want to visit again myself.

Dankjewel, eric!
I was super looking forward to this video! The Efteling has been a big part of me growing up, always had my own card till I was 15. It's always fun to see a first reaction to the park. My father lived close to it, he even played tennis there when there were fields there. Or watched the pros.

Great story about your dad! Thank you for sharing it!
Try to see Droomvlucht next time. It’s probably one of the best dark rides in the park. Symbolica probably has it beat right now, but Droomvlucht is special.
Poor Eric. I once did Vogelrok 9 times in a row on a day without many people in the park.
Great first experience for you of De Efteling 😊👍You should definitely go back for the attractions Droomvlucht, Fata Morgana, Joris en de Draak, Villa Volta and Diorama. Efteling is working on a new top attraction called Danse Macabre, this will opened in 2024.
Funny you mentioned the annoying Carnaval-music. The NS used this music in Amsterdam Central Station to 'scare of' people hanging around and causing trouble in the station. The music was also chosen to be the most irritating earworm.

So, you did the kid stuff today? 🤣 Nice pictures and video ! 👍
I live 12 kilometers from Walibi Holland (I've been there once😬) but I rather go to efteling. I always have the feeling you got so much more for you're money over there🙂
I hate rollercoasters, but Vogel Rok is doable, I found. I like that you can‘t see where you‘re going and that there are no huge drops.

I close my eyes on rollercoasters anyway..
Try to stay in their hotel ideal for a weekend. :)
Great to see you enjoyed it, do you like pony's? Pony park Slagharen next?? 👍

We do like pony’s!😊
Droom Vlucht (Dream Flight) is closed until march for maintenance (they're lifting the roof (literally) and retracking the ride plus other refurbishments and switching to LED lighting) If you got sick in Vogel Rok you might not like Villa Volta (haunted mansion with turning room) And to get a great view of the park and it's hotel(s)/resort(s) Visit the Pagode (next to Symbolica-ish) this flying temple can even show you the Towers of Terror... I mean Tilburg on a clear day (when not distracted by the beauty of the park itself 😅) And of course if (when) you go again try some of the food, some you might know like the poffertjes (across the vintage steam carrousel) and pizza, bread & pastries at the bakery across Max & Moritz, Chicken in Mrs Boltes Kitchen (might misspell the name) Asian food at the Toko near the Pagode and much much more Last advice: use their app to see waiting times, opening times etc.

@@SoultoSoulTravels you might know this, but some of your viewers might not so everyone learns something extra 😜
Funny that most of the Dutch think Symbolica is the worst darkride in the park, Fata Morgana is the best darkride in the park together with Droomvlucht. Two rides designed by Ton van de Ven.
You're not mistaken. Engineers from Efteling, also operate for Disneyland.
