It’s not Appa. In the comics, they found a slightly different breed of sky bison. Tenzin named his Oogi because Sokka always got the oogies from Aang and Katara being a couple. And no, Korra and Katara aren’t related through blood. The first thing you need to know about this series is that it is Korra’s story, not a continuation of the previous gang’s.

A small warning, the showrunners were told they got one season, then after finishing it they were given a second. Then, after finishing that, they were given two more. So the endings are a little disjointed, but the show overall is amazing

Not exactly. They were given S1. After finishing S1, they were given the remaining 3 seasons at once. But their overall budget was slashed initially and therefore they had to go to a different studio for 1st half of S2. Faced many production issues and then later for the 2nd half of S2 onwards they went back to the old studio with a better budget. And then again budget was slashed worth an episode in S4 and therefore we got that infamous recap episode. But yeah the overall show is amazing ngl

It was supposed to be 1 season but the viewership was so high nick ordered 3 more seasons after season 1 had finished airing. I remember reading the article a long time ago. Show is still amazing though.

I thought they were given Season 2. Then seasons 3 and 4 together.

It's always bothered me when people say the advancement in tech is unreasonable. The Fire Nation had tanks in the first series, that easily put the Fire Nation at LEASE early 1900s very late 1800s which would mean Korra would take place somewhere between the 1950s-1970s our time. If anything they're not advanced enough

(possible spoiler warning) yeah I think the kind of tech being invented towards the end of the series is going to advance things very very quickly in that universe, and if we get an earth avatar series it'll be kinda futuristic vibes maybe. the original design for aang was high-tech with robot stuff so I think that's where they'll want to go with it.

Youll have to read the comics if you want Zuko’s mom’s story etc. Easy to find online

I personally prefer this show over the original so i'm excited to see you guys react to it!

Yup Tenzin's voice is so great because he is voiced by Omni-Man and J. Jonah Jameson 💯💯💯💯 Also that is not Appa. Its name is Oogi. It is a different sky bison. Appa is long dead 😭

I think I read somewhere that the showrunners confirmed that Aang and Appa died at the same time, because they're spiritually connected as Avatar and Animal Guide.

One thing I do really love about Korra vs Aang, is that she very much so LOVES being the Avatar, whereas Aang was very much the opposite. Korra herself is very opposite to Aang, and she tends to think more like an Earthbender vs being go with the flow like most Waterbenders are. She's rigid, stubborn, hard headed. Impulsive. Aang was very kind natured, even tempered. Go with the flow. Looked for other angles. People love to try and drag either Aang or Korra down to defend their favorite, but as someone who DOES like Aang more, I do give Korra her credit where it's due. She's a wonderful successor to Aang. I just wish the writing around her and her worldbuilding was better. Because she as a character deserved better than a disjointed mess.

The show is set around 70 years after the OG- it's supposed to feel kinda like the 1920s at this point IRL the original show ended in 2008, so Korra actually started airing only about 4 years later in 2012

Yeah, Boomy is a reference. Aang named one of his sons after that old kooky earth bender.^^

I love the opposite of these series: Aang a person who learns to be the Avatar, but who is a pacifist Avatar in times of war; and Korra, an Avatar who learns to be a person, but who is a warrior Avatar in times of peace

The true villian of LoK is Nickelodeon. They ordered the series one season at a time, so they stifled the writers ability to make long, slow burn story lines which is really where AtlA thrived. Having said that, I love the series. I think it tackles more teen stuff which is great for people who watched the original series and are now older. I also like that Korra is essentially the anti-Aang. She has mastered all the elements but one, where Aang only mastered one element when we first meet him. Also, Korra has no spiritual connections, but Aang was incredilby spiritual. LoK also has 2 amazing villians (S1 and S3). a decent one (S4), and one that really missed for me (S2). It also has a really awesome lore dump in season 2 (don't worry, no spoilers).

Korra is headstrong and seems to solve her problems with brute force while Aang is hesitant and tries to solve his problems in the most peaceful mannner possible.

I feel like Legend of Korra is absolutely amazing in its entirety but only if you go into it with the mindset that it's not like avatar. Because it's so different from avatar it give you a shock and you may not appreciate much at first, like i did, and then the second time around when showing my mum it (and telling her that it's not like avatar) i loved it and appreciated it so much more for it's own thing.

I was the same way. The first time I watched, I went into it too heavily with the expectations of it continuing the story of ATLA (which it does a little bit, but it's more focused on Korra's story than ATLA's, which makes sense because this series is about Korra, not Aang). When I came back to it and gave it a second chance on its own merits, I really got into it and loved it.

Book 3 of Korra is my favorite book of Avatar as a whole. So excited to see you get there.

Super excited to join you guys on your TLOK journey... I myself was about 12 when this first aired and hadn't seen ATLA beforehand so in a way, TLOK is *my* ATLA... anyway, as you may already know, there is some criticism regarding this series, mostly from a _vocal minority_ of the ATLA community that seems to have this misconstrued notion that TLOK had to live up to ATLA, which I think it is kinda unfair... this series is very different than ATLA and personally, that is EXACTLY why I love it. Granted, I'll admit there is some valid criticism but honestly, just enjoy the show for now and form your own opinions later.

50s/60s vibe? They are clearly going for a 1920s vibe with the technology, clothing, and music.

Fun fact Aang was 12 in his show ,here Korra is 17 so she is a couple of years older than Aang was when he was starting his journey as the avatar

7:40 Why would it? The Avatar is a reincarnation of the previous Avatar. The previous Avatar has to die for a new one to be born. He'd have to have conveniently died right as she was being born.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone speculate that Korra was related to katara… and then moments later the surprise that the next avatar isn’t his child… I mean it’s possible considering the next avatar would be a waterbender and katara is one, but for storytelling that makes it hard to tell an entirely new story

@@christiandnl Not to mention we see Korra's parents in the beginning. At their age they'd have to be DISTANT relations, if at all. In that case what would even be the point?

there are going to be a lot of unanswered questions about the original gang brought up in this show, the comics help fill in some of the blanks, but the rest I think is going to be revealed in upcoming projects. things like how people died, who they married, etc.

I love both avatar and korra and I espically love the pro bending tournaments in korra. Idk why but I loved watching those a lot.

By the time korra airs both Appa and Momo are dead Appa died immediately after Aang because of the strong connection he had with him And we never see Momo in Korra

In the first two episodes, even though tenzin has the powers of his father But he has his mother's Temper

i've always imagined if it was possible that an avatar can have a child that is also the avatar like imagine this, katara and aang's firstborn is tenzin (an airbender so that ofc there will still be a whole bloodline of airbenders) and katara is pregnant with kya, but during labor, aang died (idk how or why, like he could be trying to protect katara from danger n stuff or like he was away) so when katara delivered kya, as the avatar cycle goes earth, fire, air, and water- kya becomes the avatar- because as atla and tlok shows, every avatar death comes with a crying baby sound- so like- could it be possible for an avatar to have an avatar offspring? even if it is not hereditary but it requires death?

I've been rewatching Korra through KZreadrs, and look forward to seeing your journey with Korra and the new (and old) gen. 😁 Also, perhaps this isnt the place to bring this up, but i do hope you two are willing to watch Gintama as a collab first time reaction. I liked how you reacted to the openings, and think youd enjoy it together if you havent already done it.

Oh man you guys are in for a wild ride, there's a loud minority in the community that hates on this show, but if you pay attention, all 4 seasons have something special!

You guys should do the reaction and then rewatch the episode… you’re missing so much talking over the dialogue (which makes sense because it’s a reaction) but that way you don’t ask redundant questions that are being answered. Like when tenzin calls his bison oogi. Or when they introduce Korra, and the white lotus clearly states they’ve been searching… Clearly not related to Aang.

Yes the GOAT, I'm in the minority but I like the show better than og atla.

The era is more like early 1900 because of the type of car they use. I really korra because she is nothing like Aang. I would say that season 1 is great, season 2 is the weakest season, season 3 is the best season, season 4 is great too. Also there is a saying that new avatar kinda makes up for the previous avatar's regret.

We film 25+ episodes of cartoons and anime a week. If we forget something then it’s literally not a problem. People really act like watch cartoons is a test that you must remember and get correct. Jeez…

So the voice actor for Tenzin is JK Simons, AKA Omni-man from invincible, the one guy from the farmers insurance ads, and JJ Jamison from the live action Spider-Man movies with Toby Maguire

The legend of korra was pretty enjoyable I’m not the biggest fan of the final season but overall the show was good I hope Alex you and him enjoy the series

Maybe stop comparing it to the 1st because it's its own show? If you want to see the old characters so much, then rewatch ATLA 🤷 JS

Even though Korra isn’t as amazing as Avatar, it still holds up in its own right and is still good. I consider Book 1 like an epilogue of sorts to the original series, as we get to see how the world progressed after the war and the torch passed on to the next Avatar

Legend of Korra takes place in what we in real life see as the late 1920's. Korra is 17 in book One. Aang past away at an relatively young age of 66. Korra was born in 1905-1910. Aang was 12 in when Avatar the last airbender is set. So 66-12= 54 years before korra was born 1905/1910 - 54 = 1851/1856 So Avatar the last airbender takes place roughly around the mid 1800's. But since Aang was stuck in the ice for 100years. He was actually born around 1739/1744.

90% of people skip within 5 seconds of the video being paused or once the episode is finished so sadly we have to talk during the episode otherwise the algorithm suffers. Audience attention spans are shorter these days, sadly!
