    The great thing many miss about the Addams Family is this, they are the ideal family. The kids are well behaved, the husband loves and treats his wife like a queen, and the wife is a excellent home maker and supports her children in their interests and backs up her husband. They are the perfect version of a loving, caring, functioning family, just their interests and proclivities are on the more morbid side of things.

  • @Br0nto5aurus

    @Br0nto5aurus

    The "kids are well behaved" part is a bit questionable. It works for the Addams' but Wednesday regularly tries to kill Pugsley. In the second movie, in addition to more of the same homicidal behavior from Wednesday and new homicidal behavior from Pugsley, the children are seen sawing the railing of the stairs. Seemingly fine for the Addams', but not exactly "well behaved" to others.

    Primate, The Addams Family began life as a group of single panic comic strips in the 1930s. Charles Addams was a satirist and cartoonist who invented the family to lampoon normal American culture by showing it twisted with the dark and macabre. The 1960s show was based on it, but toned it down for tv. These films were unconnected to the show, but hit sued for the use of Cousin Itt. The Addams Family is a rights issues nightmare. There are several different iterations that are in no way connected by any canon.

    Love this movie. The second one, Addams Family Values is just as good. Just wisht that there was a third movie. They had plans but Raul Julia who played Gomez had passed away from a heart attack. Most of the cast did not come back and the "third" movie isn't really a fit.

  • @melenatorr

    @melenatorr

    He was only 54 when he died. During production on the second movie, his condition affected his energy and the script and direction tried hard to accommodate him. When Angelica Huston was approached for this first movie, she was reluctant: the tv series was, to use a word already tired, iconic, and she was anxious not only about living up to Carolyn Jones, but about who could be cast as Gomez after the classic eccentricities and energy of John Astin. I remember reading that when she was told it would be Raul Julia, her eyes lit up. Angelica Huston is the daughter of John Huston, the famous and gifted screenwriter/director. He, in turn, was the son of the magnificent actor Walter Huston, who, in sort of link to the Addams family, played Mr. Scratch in a delightful adaptation of "The Devil and Daniel Webster", aka "All That Money Can Buy".

    The languages was a popular action from the series: Gomez was from a Spanish background and would occasionally use Spanish, but the kicker was when Morticia would use French, which was an instant amorous trigger for John Astin's Gomez (and it could be pretty much any language from Morticia that would set him off). Here's a sample from the series: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2Gmt7Gre9nPf7A.html

    When the 1960's TV show came out (based on the Depression Era newspaper cartoon strip) all the new shows were coming out in color. But *The Addams Family* was a B&W throwback. When they were made, the original show was so quirky and beloved I didn't think the movies would be anything but a cash grab. But I was wrong -- this movie and the sequel recreate the spirit of the original show really, really well. I wish I could say the same for other remakes.

    She got her name from the old classic English Children's Rhyme; "Monday's child is Fair of Face, Tuesday's child is Fair of Face, Wednesday's child is Full of Woe, Thursday's child has Far to Go..." This film was released on Thanksgiving weekend, therefore the Christmassy opening. The Hand is named "Thing". The hairy little critter in bowler hat is Cousin It. All based on Charles Addams' characters he created in the early 1930s, originally a single-panel comic, and grew into the early '60s tv show. The late, great Raul Julia was so fantastic in his portrayal of Gomez. Good catch - she said she should've left him where she found him!

    Christopher Lloyd is in Nobody. The Bob Odenkirk movie written by the guy who wrote John Wick. Good movie. Worth a watch, if you haven't seen it.

    I watched the original TV show...and later read the comics it was based on. So when this came out I wasn't sure I would like it. Honestly the plot is weak. But the acting carries it. Angelica Huston, Raoul Julia, and Christina Ricci NAIL it. The rest are good ,but those three really are what makes this such an amazing movie. The sequel is good as well. In some ways better, in some ways not. But adds another amazing actor, Joan Cusack in a role she had never expected.

    Thanks for the reaction. Question: Do you have to use mo-fo and curse during these? Sometimes my kids walk through the room while I'm watching. I usually have to wait to watch you when they've gone to bed.
