Our FIRST TIME in VIETNAM! 🇻🇳 Shocked by Our First Impressions of Hanoi
This is our first time in Vietnam and we were shocked on our first day in Hanoi! Our initial expectation was to be overwhelmed by all the craziness we had only heard about. Quickly we realized that the streets of Hanoi are chaotic - but they are organized chaos. Filled with a mix of motorbikes, bicycles, pedestrians, and street vendors - all this combined is what makes Hanoi unique. Needing travel insurance for an upcoming trip? One of the most famous landmarks in Hanoi is Hoan Kiem Lake, which is surrounded by historic buildings and scenic landscapes. Overall, Hanoi is a vibrant and exciting city, with a blend of traditional and modern, making it a popular destination for travelers seeking an authentic Vietnamese experience. Thanks for watching!!

I've been coming to Vietnam for years. I loved it so much I finally got to marry my South Vietnamese wife this week. Most of my time is spent in the rural areas with her bazillion uncle and Aunties. I have to leave and go back to Australia, but will move here permanently in 2 years. Your absolutely correct regarding the traffic, you can't be shy. Just a small tip. Don't ever give kids money. It encourages them to skip school and take up begging. The local authorities are trying to put a stop to it as well.

Beautiful video, thanks. I’ve been to Thailand three times, and China/Japan/Singapore, etc. Your video entices me to come to Vietnam. It saddens me that we were involved in a war to settle a political system. What did that accomplish? How different would the country have been if our side had “won?” It just reminds me of the futility of war and how sad it is for the people of that country. Such a waste of life, and energy. @@huskerite2 I also hate war. Reminder: Biden carried out Donny Trump’s plan in Afghanistan that he had agreed to with the Taliban. Donny Trump didn’t want to evacuate any of our Afghan allies. Let that sink in. He was going to abandon them. Biden got out 100,000 people and left no Americans behind who had properly registered with the embassy. Want someone to blame for Afghanistan? His name is Donny Trump. He’s also responsible for the mass shooting in Nashville. Trump rescinded an Obama era law which wouldn’t allow mentally ill people seeking treatments to buy any type of guns. That crime wouldn’t have happened if that law was in place. Also, Republlguns in Tennessee made sure anyone can buy an AR-15, and they don’t give a damn about kids. It’s about guns and their made up constitutional “right” to own one. Tennessee also has no red flag laws. This mass shooting wouldn’t have happened in my blue state. Finally, can you tell me anything constructive that conservatives do for society? I honestly can’t see anything. Burning books, treating LGBT as second class, giving guns to anyone who wants them, and banning drag shows do society no favors. To top it off, Biden won the counties which generate 70 percent of our economy. Quite frankly, our country would be better off without the red states.
@danielgloverpiano7693

@@huskerite2 I, for one, can’t wait until Donny Trump is locked up for his numerous crimes against this country. The NY indictment is the first of many to come. I speak Russian and state TV admitted they colluded with Trump and stole the 2016 election for him. They also claimed he sold them classified documents before the FBI raid. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as it explains the motive behind why a man who does not read would take thousands of documents to his retirement home. He wanted to make money off them. He doesn’t care a rat’s ass for this country and he would sell his grandma to make a buck. The FBI found dozens of file folders with contents missing. This corroborated Russia’s claims. Anyone who votes Republlgun is an enemy of our country and doesn’t belong here. The majority of Americans are Democrats and that’s been true for thirty years. When Donny is finally locked up, my metro area of eight million will be holding a massive street party. We voted for Biden by 87 percent. And we’re proud of it. He airlifted 100;000 Afghans that Trump would have left to rot. Donny would have brought back obsolete and unusable equipment before human beings.

Someone pointed out that there it's referred to as The American War and that I wouldn't see a lot of people of a certain age bracket because they are GONE. As a Yank I was braced for hostility from the Vietnamese people but all I found was kindness and grace. It was a truly humbling experience. I have lived in Vietnam 22 years and granted, it does have some lovely places where you can see a nice view and scenery, but that is usually a definite spot. Most of the country is trash-ridden, dirty, dusty, noisy, dangerous, unsanitary and full of shady/untrustworthy people. It is not a glamorous, heaven-on-Earth place. Few Vietnam videos tell you that you need vaccines against typhoid, hepatitis, and to be careful around people who have tuberculosis and other diseases. Dengue fever can be caught anywhere and most tourists are ill after 2-3 days in country due to bacteria in food and on utensils. They can be ill up to 3 weeks. There is also chikungunya . You also need insurance (or cash) that covers you in Vietnam and pays IMMEDIATELY! No payment, no treatment at hospitals. FYI

As we've experienced in a life of full-time world travel, no place is perfect... actually typically far from it. Always good to research vaccinations suggested for any place you travel, and the ones you mentioned were the ones we found as well. Thank you so much for watching? Cheers 🍻
Awesome video!! Was it hard to obtain a visa? I am looking into heading there but I don’t have photos for the visa. How was the process for you both? Thanks ☺️🙏🏽

Hi, Patricia. If you go to the Vietnam national web portal on the immigration website, it will tell you what you need to do. You actually take your own picture with your cell phone. The process was surprisingly easy. We literally just shot a video on what you need to do to visit SE Asia and will be releasing it on Saturday. Thank you for watching our channel. Cheers!!🍻

In the south, they give the change back to the customer almost every time by 2 hands even the street venders. I dont see that in the north. But we don’t care. I just noticed the difference

I keep seeing, reading, and hearing from so many American, Canadian, Australian tourists just how friendly and inviting the Vietnamese People are to foreign visitors. You don't see or perceive any negativity or hostility towards Americans and Australians and Frenchmen because of the IndoChina Wars. The leaders of North Vietnam during the IndoChina Wars are now passed away, their places taken by men who were pre-teens or early teenagers when the Americans withdrew from Vietnam. Most of the population of all of Vietnam was not alive at the end of the IndoChina Wars. I suppose the Vietnamese People can afford to be friendly without grudges. After all, they won both IndoChina Wars! The shocking thing for the Vietnamese was to go from the American enemy to fighting their own, supposed, 'eternal brother', the communist Chinese in 1979, a mere four years after the fall of South Vietnam and the reunification of the country. Thousands of battle-hardened, former North Vietnamese soldiers had to wrap their brains around going to war against their once most loyal and dedicated ally throughout the IndoChina Wars, the communist Chinese. But that's another story, not for here. If you know a little about Asian world history, Vietnam had long been a capitalist, authoritarian monarchy for thousands of years. The North Vietnamese Marxist communist government did its best to eradicate capitalism in northern Vietnam and later southern Vietnam but all it succeeded in doing was temporarily suppressing it. The spirit of capitalism sprung anew like a phoenix from the ashes in the resilient Vietnamese. Decades after the IndoChina Wars, the entire country at peace and rebuilt, the old diehard Marxist leaders passed away and replaced by younger men, the Vietnamese People are returning to the kind of people and civilization they've always been and most prospered. Vietnam is still nominally a communist authoritarian nation but like Red China, it has re-adopted capitalism, or rather, allowed it to grow again like a seed that had lay dormant long underground. Traces of past French colonialism show vividly in this video. You see what appears to be English literation signs all over business district Hanoi, but that originated from French colonial times. English and French both use the same ancient Phoenician-based alphabet. You see the tourists in the video munching on baguette sandwiches, that look like submarine sandwiches to Americans. That is a French adoption from the late 19th century into the 20th century. The Vietnamese learned to eat baked bread foods, although rice still overwhelmingly predominates and always will. Nonetheless, the pragmatic, practical, and entrepeneur Vietnamese have taken to employing English in their signs and menus since so many tourists are from English-speaking countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom. And many Europeans from non-English nations know some English themselves. Hanoi is still a far cry from the frenzied, neon-lit urban mosaic of Ho Chih Minh City. (I predict someday the name will revert to its traditional, ancient, Saigon.) But it has come very far towards emulating its more famous southern counterpart as you can see. The city is tourist friendly and so are the natives. This is a different world from the 1960s when the few European tourists from Eastern European Warsaw Pact nations described Hanoi as a drab, colorless, wartime city with little to visit, see, or do. Today the Vietnamese People are open, welcoming, and friendly. Of course it pays not to be naive and continue to be alert and use one's common sense as well as obeying the laws and customs of the land. If you're looking for an unfriendly, unwelcoming country with surly, unsmiling natives, I heard that you have to go to France.

Hi Brian and Carrie, in your time in Vietnam, were there any of your hotel stays which required you to leave your passport with them for the duration of your stay? We recently read about this and are a little uncomfortable with doing that.

I imagine quite a few people have been hurt or killed on that train street and that is what they have come up with to help stop it.
