Our FIRST Pregnancy Ultrasound | 6 Weeks

Our FIRST Pregnancy Ultrasound | 6 Weeks -- We went in for our very first ultrasound at 6w1d pregnant and had a bit of a scare. But, we know that it's just too early for us and that we'll see more when we go back in a week or two! We share these vulnerable moments because the ups and downs are all a part of the journey. And we always try to be as real as possible with our vlogs! Thank you for your love and support :)

Thank you everyone for your reassuring comments and for sharing your stories! We filmed the second we got out of the ultrasound and so my emotions were very high! I was feeling frustrated that I wasn’t getting the reassurance that I felt we needed and you can obviously see that on my face lol. But I’m only human! And I get worried! But we are both feeling a LOT better today and back on our (mostly) positive train 😊❤️ And we are very excited to see baby again at our next ultrasound! Love you guys.

Why would they check for ectopic when the embryo was implanted right in the uterus? The embryo wouldn't travel up so I don't understand that reasoning and I wonder if the nurse was trying to make sure you guys didn't worry. Anyhow, my LO is 10 months now and at 6 weeks we didn't see heartbeat either and was measuring 5wks3days. It's very possible you will get that reassurance next week.

Brittanny Lawrence I think they were checking based on the numbers they were getting from the beta tests. It’s also possible for the embryo to travel after it is transferred.

Don’t lose hope!!! With my third, they told me at 6 weeks and 3 days they couldn’t see anything and suggested a d&c since I’ve had previous miscarriages... I decided to wait it out and was going every week for an ultrasound. (They started at 5 weeks) and at 7 weeks almost 8 they saw a heartbeat!!! HE’s now a healthy 3 almost 4 year old!!

At six weeks three days with my second daughter, we saw an empty sack without even a yoke sac. It didn't look good, and the doctor said come back in three days for a final ultrasound to decide what to do. At the next appointment, 6w6d, there was miraculously a sac with the yolksac now visible and a baby with a heartbeat measuring exactly on track. She's now a loud, rambunctious four year old who is the joy of our family! Don't give up hope yet.

Agree 6 weeks is way too early. You could have implanted a day or so later. I'm in medical field and they never do ultrasounds at 6 weeks. Always 7 weeks and up. The reason they did ultrasound was to rule out ectopic and to do just that. So take that ultrasound as a positive!!! You passed the first of many ultrasound tests!!!! Rest, drink alot of water, eat warm meals, chicken noodle soup, tea and stay warm and snuggle on couch. God has a plan for you and that baby is yours!!! Your body is doing what it needs to do Ayla!! Promise!!!!! I had infertility, we lost our first baby and our second baby was born with spina bifida, she is the beauty in the picture. She was the best thing that happened to us. But let's just say I know a few boughts of pain and have had my fair share of ultrasounds.

I had my kids in the 60s and 70s. Back then there were no sonograms. You had to go to the Dr. to find out you were pregnant. Then you just got blood tests to see if you were anemic and urine tests to check for infection or blood. You found out what gender when you delivered. Maybe ignorance is bliss. If there werent all the test to do now, you wouldn't be worried. Just pretend its 1970. Lol. If you could just relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Enjoy your nausea. And your exhaustion. Lol We will all pray that next week your babies heart is just pumping up a storm. Much love to you both.

When I was pregnant with my second we went to our fertility clinic at 6 weeks 1 day for our first ultrasound and didn't see a sac, a yolk sac, nothing. We had done IUI with trigger, so like you we were pretty sure of our dates. My fertility doctor told me the pregnancy was tubal because there was no pregnancy in the uterus. We went back a few days later, and same thing, they said its was tubal and we needed to go to surgery. I kept insisting they look again and finally they found the sac with a baby and a heartbeat. I have a healthy 4 year old boy from that pregnancy.

My OB clinic won't book an appointment until 8 weeks and others won't until 12! It's so very rare to see a heart beat at 6 weeks or to see a fetal pole. It all really depends where baby implanted. Deep breathing and thinking about the air going in and out of your lungs and giving that air to the baby is one thing I used to do just so that my body would go into a relax state even if my mind didn't. Sending positive thoughts and prayers to the two of you. You got this Ayla!! You both are amazing parents and you are going to have an amazing Baby!!

Such a stressful situation, but a couple of notes to help you feel better, hopefully, or at least ease anxiety: 1. It is possible that it still took a day or two for the embryo to implant, even though it's IVF, so that could explain why the sack is a couple of days behind if the measurement is accurate, but... 2. The measuring tools aren't always super accurate, and the tech not always perfect at using them, so that could explain why it's a day or two behind, too. These are teeny tiny measuring increments so it would be easy to be off by a little bit. 3. This is really the earliest you might have detected a heartbeat, so don't lose hope on that front. It would have been reassuring but you have the gestational sac, etc. so you're still in the game. I've also heard that a lot of whether or not you see the heartbeat can be due to position, the skill of the tech, etc. Anyways, sounds like you got reassurance and positive stories via Instagram but just thought I'd share my take on the technical aspects. From a non-technical perspective, I think napping and sleeping are a good sign because that was my number one symptom during the first trimester myself. Fingers crossed that week 7 brings more good news. Just be prepared that it's still going to be an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I'm currently sitting here at week 39 a little nervous about how my doctor's appointment today is going to go. It's another unfortunate byproduct of IVF.

All I saw was a yolk sac when I had my first ultrasound. I was dated at 7 weeks 3 days, but measured at 5 weeks 3 days. At this point you saw what I saw. You are ok. You don't need to be worried. Let me tell you, I had some complications that sent me in for weekly ultrasounds the first 3 weeks after the first ultrasound. I couldn't sleep,I was crying a ton, but my baby lives as a super intelligent 4 year old boy who is excelling in all he does. Praying you find yourself busy more than normal and at peace till you have your next ultrasound. The anxiety I felt as a person with my own physical disabilities... who conceived naturally, I was a wreck until my 19 week bio development scan to make sure baby was healthy. He is perfectly fine. I am praying all will turn out fine and that this is your time to be parents. Blessings!

The fetal pole is usually identified at ~6.5 weeks with transabdominal ultrasound imaging and at ~6 weeks with transvaginal ultrasound imaging, although it may not be seen until ~9 weeks in some cases. this is from google... so u are totally fine!

Just think about back in the day, before ultrasounds and beta numbers. Once you were told by your doc that you were pregnant, you were pregnant and most people could just enjoy their pregnancies. Sometimes too much information is good, like in this instance by being able to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, but then sometimes too much information can be negative, because it causes you to worry when you don’t see a heartbeat. It doesn’t mean that anything is wrong, it just means that it’s too early to see a heartbeat yet!! With that being said, I do understand your worry because I had several miscarriages and I can remember wanting positive information right away!! Just keep on keeping on, your little Sweet Pea is tucked away soundly and growing, and when it’s time you will see a heartbeat!! Sending prayers everyday!!

First time watcher and fellow IVFer here, I just wanted to say don’t worry!! My husband and I had our first ultrasound when I was 5w2d. Right before I got scanned, I went to the bathroom and I started bleeding. Scared me to death and thought it was over.. I cried the whole ultrasound. The tech then turned the screen and said, “it’s okay!! Look! There’s 2 there.” We only saw the gestational and yolk sacs at that point. I was relieved but still worried. I had my next appointment at 7w1d and we saw both fetal poles with heartbeats! Now I’m 14 weeks still going strong. I know how hard it is not to worry but you got this!! Take it one week at a time and try to focus on the positive! Your little bean is there.. they’re still growing!! ❤️❤️

I’ve had 7 kids and this has happened to me more than once. Don’t worry, the fact that you’ve seen a yolk sac is already a great indication that things are going great. Although you know your exact conception date all babies grow at different rates. The baby might be growing a little slower than an average, nothing wrong with that! As far as I’m concerned you had a great first ultrasound. I know it’s hard to see it that way but take some deep breathes and remember that this is normal. This is what sucks about earlier ultrasounds. The sac measuring smaller is just showing you that every baby grows at a different rate.

little murmurings I have a friend who has an IVF baby who measured a week or 2 behind from the beginning!! My second child measured behind by 2 weeks almost my entire pregnancy. She was behind by 4 days at first then 8 days then 2 weeks!! They kept asking if my dates were right (they were! We were trying and I tested the day before my missed period!). She was diagnosed with IUGR eventually and delivered via emergency c section (whole other story) 5 weeks ago at 38 weeks and was so tiny! So babies grow at different rates.
