In my last video I talked about how The Underground Strength Gym and Zach Even Esh inspired me years ago. In this video, I talk about how Elliott Hulse from Strength Camp influenced me to open my own warehouse gym - Untamed Strength.

I love it! This brought a big smile to my face, and was a nice reminder of where it all started. I was shocked to see that you were at my first Yo Elliott event in NYC. Thank you for all the kind words Alan. It means more to me now than ever. 🙏🏽

All my first workout designs were built around Strength Camp videos. Cheers, Elliott! I had a very long and subpar tenure in strongman. Just didn't have the genetic gifts(injuries, etc). Still, strongman means a lot to me and I hope to one day train others with my own strongman knowledge.
In 2012 when his channel was in his prime, a 14 year old me couldn’t not find a better channel to get me started. He made me want to actually pursue strength and powerlifting during a time in my life where I had very little ambition as a young teenager. He was very important to a lot of people including myself.

It was great until he started a cult and started shoving his weird ideology down people's throats.
My first inspiration was Jason Blaha. His physique, his general bad@55ery, and knowledge are what inspired me. I knew he had a clandestine background and was risking it all to put fitness videos on KZread. I now have the lunch lady, hunchback look I’ve always dreamed of. This year I think I’m going to get a 2 plate bench. Jason says I can be even better if I quit my job and get on government assistance like him!

I usually don't comment, but I'll say that 10 years ago when I stepped into weight lifting, Alan Thrall and Elliot Hulse were the videos that helped shape me. And to this day, I still credit Elliot Hulse for improving my dead lifts through his videos. Both these guys were the no nonsense training and advice that I needed early on and I'm glad to have had their guidance.

I've been on youtube for a VERY long time. Scooby, Elliot, and Mark Bell were the biggest fitness "influencers" for me at the time. I also still follow and watch Chris Jones (overtime athletes) who I believe Elliot was somewhat of a mentor to and they worked together for a long time. This was a really good breakdown of Elliot's success and influence. Great video Alan. Thanks

Fuck this made me feel old. I’m only 27 haha. Started watching all those names around 14/15 years old. Mike Chang was another big one for quick at home workouts
I remember when Omar Isuf went down to train with him for a week. That was a fun week of content.
I used to love Strength Camp, watched it alot. I miss those old days where he was training and teaching with the boys.
Damn the real KZread fitness OG. Elliot helped me so much when I first started training in 2008. Even if I’m not into his current content, or implement much of his philosophies in my current training today…I appreciate the hell out of him for giving me some guidance in the beginning. Thanks Elliot!
This dude literally transformed me from being 14-16 years old and watching every single video. Very thankful for this man.
Loved watching Elliott back in the day.
Oh my God I literally owe my current career path and life to Elliot. I forgot how influential he was on me as a middle schooler. Im a personal trainer now and survived a near fatal crash due to his influence on my training myself in the first place
I remember vividly how I used to watch Elliott´s stuff back in the day and how I stumbled across your channel, when you had around 30k subscribers. I am genuinely happy for you Alan. You deserve every last bit of your success. Thank you for being an inspiration to me for almost a decade now!
I saw a short video of Elliot, back against a brick wall swinging a weighted ball back and forth. Most explosive power demo I'd ever seen! I thought "this guy might have something interesting to say." I was also drawn in by his obvious love for his family. An impressive guy.
He was also a huge inspiration for me in my late teen years for fitness. I loved his old videos, these days it seems as though he's working through a lot of pain.

Alan Thrall inspired me to train for strength! I used to binge watch his videos and watch many times over the same video to get the information tattoed in my brain when I was starting to lift. Specially in terms of basic lifts (overhead press, bench press, deadlift and squat). You inspired me to be passionate about going to the gym and become a better version of myself physically. And all of that was about five or six years ago. Right at that time I was looking for self improvement content on KZread and found Elliott Hulse's videos. It was really awesome to see how strength development and character development were really co-related (I started training at 16 yo). Both of you guys taught me a lot of valuable lessons for my life, and I am sure that many others as well. Thank you Alan and Elliott for everything you've done and do on the internet. It means a lot to a lot of us.
You and Elliot Hulse are the reason I opened up my personal training gym and started training and competing in strongman. Crazy.
Scooby and Elliott were both super influential to me when I was a teen. Good times, thanks for bringing back those memories.
Elliot Hulse was the first KZread channel I subscribed to. His whole 'be the strongest version of yourself', if 'you try and be Superman, you go in the opposite direction' focus was my motivation. I'm going to have to go back and watch a bunch of them. I started watching them ten years ago, i reckon his opinions will still resonate with me.
Elliot really inspired me in a rough patch of my life were i only had the gym, he really got me with the be the strongest version of you speeches. No one else really talked like that around me at the time and it helped me alot. Was a really nice travel in some memories with this video. Great work!
Elliot was my first Trainer also, he single-handedly fixed my slouching posture. And when I train people now, I use the same techniques because they are literally the antidote to office jobs. Underhand Deadlifts, and Front Squats (or getting the mobility to even do a front squat). Much love to @strengthcamp Elliot.
Maaaan look. He was the one who I also learned from. Gave it to his followers and members straight up. All facts. Loved his email segments. Such a pioneer. Yo! Elliott!!
And years ago, you Alan did the same thing for me ! I started my tiny 33m2 gym And now I got 435m2 strongman/ barbell club and I love my life! Thanks fór everything!
Mine was the only 4 exercises you need to grow! Elliot helped me to improve very much my English listening skill thanks to his videos because English is not my first language. I also enjoyed a lot his videos about dealing with heartbreaks and relationships! Thank you Allan! Thank you Elliot!
So nostalgic. Online fitness owes a lot to him
I didn't even know there were videos that weren't "yoh elliot"s. One thing he said that stuck with me was "the ways might be many, but the principles are few". He wasn't even talking about weights anymore, I remember he was one some tangent. The real OG. ❤
I don’t remember which was the first video I watched, but it was also around 2009. Both of you guys have been an excellent resource for those of us that are into the fitness life.
Elliott and eventually Omar isuf are what got me into the gym and into squatting, deadlifting etc. I watched Elliotts stuff every time he posted back in those days. Not into his recent content at all but he definitely did a lot for me back then
10:42 is that fucking OMAR?? And yeah I used to watch this guy 10 years ago (I'm 26, and started lifting at 16) and I can confirm this guy is a legend, and it's unfortunate what happened after all that time but it seems he was able to gather himself so I hope the best for him. I don't know what the first video I watched was but "Chiropractic Quackery" is the first video of his I ever hit like on 9 years ago. Such a walk down memory lane this video was, thanks for sharing.

Elliot Hulse was fundamental for the basis of my weight training knowledge back when I joined the army in 2013. He started putting out a lot of good content about maturity I wish I could have appreciated when I was 17. Amazing and inspiring man.
it's hard to watch those old Yo Elliott videos now after he went batshit crazy, but the guy made some great content back in the day.
Awesome video!! I first watched Elliot Hulse back in the 2017 ! I became so attached with the idea he was trying to express in many ways of following your gut instinct since that year I came out of a job I hated and this guy was talking about the thing I was feeling!! I started taking notes from his videos and as a younger man Eliot made me realise that Im in charge in my life and not to take no as an answer!!
I dont remember the first video I watched of his, or how I even came across his channel, but I also noted that he had a very strong personality that helped to differentiate his brand from other gym experts who where otherwise plain. Speaking of nostalgia, I remember watching YOUR videos back when your beard was as long as your hair, I always looked up to you too, especially your straight to business attitude and clear explanations.
Thanks for the throwback time^^ Elliot definitely was one of the most interesting and best channels, which helped me getting into lifting 10 years ago. I liked the knowledge and the positivity he had. Good times. Funny to see you and Omar Isuf in his videos.
"The only 4 Exercises YOU need to grow stronger" My frist Elliot video and I was blown away by his content and how it was presented. This style of training was what I always wanted without knowing it existed and I'm doing strength training ever since. He left a huge impressionen on me as a young man and altough I dont agree with his content in recent years, I will always be grateful for his videos 10 years ago
Alan, I never saw this guy Elliot, but I did find your channel. I am fortunate enough to live close enough to your gym to have met you for a "form check" in March 2020 right before Covid hit. The advice you gave me helped me start my workouts on the right path, but also my 2 high school aged boys on that path too. Thanks for taking time out of your family's life to create and post content.. you're a "stand up guy"!
“How To Squat” I was 13 and just started lifting weights for Texas football. You, Elliot, and Omar were the OG personal trainers to me on KZread. Now I am going to Nationals for Weightlifting. OORAH!
Elliot Hulse and Six Pack Shortcuts were what finally got me into the gym at the age of 26. Good stuff from back then!

Ahh…this brings me back in the best way ever. I’m far from the only one who can say his or her life was profoundly affected by Elliot. Especially within personal training and life guidance, I realize how much this inspired me to choose what I do as well through watching your video, Alan. Those videos were so inspiring, so insightful, and so genuine! He lost me at a certain point, but is still the GOAT in my book from watching those videos back then. Anyways, great video. ‘Love your transparent account and wish you all the Best, Alan!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I used to watch this guy all the time. I got back into lifting bc of him.
Dude I loved watching Elliot Hulse videos. The motivation went straight to my soul. Crazy to think about how all of us might’ve crossed paths back in 2012 youtube and here we are yet again. Wonder where we’ll cross paths in another 10 yrs
Elliott was a huge influence for me early on, great video recapping things and highlighting how unique his channel was at the time. I don't remember the first video I watched of his, but the first one I can remember really getting a lot from was him explaining the different set and reps schemes, and rest periods for training for power, strength, endurance etc. All simple information presented in a good fashion for someone starting out.
ive been around since 2016, it was you and elliot always helped. thanks a bunch
I was 14 and didnt really understand english back in the day as turkish teen living in istanbul. Elliot was the guy who light a fire in me towards strength training. Never stopped ever since. I sincerely thank him.
I hope Elliott finds his way back. Learnt a lot from his videos.
Elliott was hugely inspiring to my teenage me, back when i was in class Prépa in France. Two years of 90 hours/week, I was getting beat up with those long hours and 5-6 hours sleep max. I listened to Elliott and Brandon Carter back in those days. Kinda feel like centuries ago, judging by how far they've deviated. Those were the days... I am now an engineering with two masters a top school in France and Georgia Tech in the US. I held on for dear life thanks to those videos. Now, my life feels so effortless and full...
cant believe it has been 10 years since I started watching elliot hulse. Time really flies by. We are getting old folks!
He def was one of the OGs of KZread fitness , somewhere along the way he lost me but he definitely needs his flowers
Elliot was my favorite. All the injuries & stretch content he came out with saved my ass A LOT
I was watching Elliot’s videos on my iPod touch more that 10 years ago! He is absolutely the reason I fell in love with weight training! Him now you! Thanks to both of you guys.
Elliot got me started in powerlifting over 10 years ago, and I really took all of his advice and implemented it into my training. Now, he's off his fkn rocker, but big shout out to the guy. Also, shoutout to Scooby.
I started my fitness life in my mid teens and early youtube fitness was like a bible to me. I’d watch Scooby, Omar, Elliott, Mark Bell, anyone who had information. Yours has also been one of my favourites the whole time.
He was it when I started back in 2012/2013. He had great info that no one else was offering at the time. He inspired me to "jump into my river" and follow what I love. Great vid Alan.
One of the biggest inspirations, mentors, and influences in my life as a preteen and teen. Honestly so very lucky to come across him and be so positively influenced. Thank you Elliot
I haven’t thought about Elliot in a long time. Definitely one of the first channels I watched religiously.
Elliot man, love you dude. Really got it into my head squats and deadlifts are the only real way to gain significant strength and size. Thank you.
Those early Elliott videos and t nation articles were what got my shit together in the gym so long ago. His videos taught me how to squat and I still occasionally remember some of those tips under the bar to this day.
Thank you Alan for such great sessions and gym! Really great to be able to squat, press and deadlift again after a layoff.
Yo Elliot was the start for so much. Glad he made those videos for all of us
Damn! Blast from the past. HIs vids are what got me into lifting as an early teen. Still going strong a decade later
I got into yt fitness around 2017 and Elliot was one of the channels I was watching. And yours too. Brings so many memories. Btw, so nice that you have footage of yourself with him back in 2012 lol.
This man really helped form my life, a father I didn't have, for real. Respect.
Man good memories! The early YT fitness was certainly a wild place. I used to watch a lot of his videos
Both Allan and Elliot were the most inspiring persons getting me to hit the gym and to develop myself mentally. Especially Elliot had excellent self development content. I still find myself watching those old videos from him.
The first time I came across Elliott Hulse's videos was when I had just started lifting in 2013 and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to achieve squat depth. I'm someone with big hip bones and femurs, and every commercial gym trainer taught me to do squats the exact same way - push your knees forward while bending down BUT DONT LET THE KNEES GO PAST YOUR TOES - and I just couldn't do it. I can't remember the title of the video but it was about a squat cue which completely changed how I saw the movement. He said something on the lines of taking a wider stance and pushing your knees to the outside (basically hip abduction) and giving your upper body the space to drop down along the middle. I was surprised at how much easier it was to squat with depth and keeping a neutral back that way.
You’re an inspiration Alan :) keep doing you
I remember Eliot’s videos 7 years ago when I first got into fitness. To this day I still use a lot of the stuff I learned from his videos.
Loved strength camp videos, watched every single one for years, one of the reasons i started training
Great tribute video. I used to watch his videos all the time.
the video of elliott throwing around a 100lb dumbbell in the rain was so metal. i remember how animalistic his face looked when he hit a stomping pose in the middle of the storm and even had it saved as my screensaver for a good while
❤❤❤ Thank you so much for this video!
Love to see the inspiration of my inspiration, thanks thrall I really appreciate this
Elliot was such a huge part of my fitness journey as well. I was 16 years old when I came across his stuff around 2010. He is the reason that I got into strength training, and his life advice videos were a huge part of my teenage years. I got to meet him in 2017 and he was cool as hell. No matter what he is doing now if you like him or not, this man has a huge Mark left on the fitness industry as a whole
Elliot was my first trainer, then found Buff Dudes ... then, You! Loved that you were just getting started (and were a metalhead) .. before getting into Nippard and Dr Mike from RP. Its been a great stretch of time and I learned so much in a way that could never have happened before. Thanks dude!
Elliot Hulse taught me how to teach the deadlift when I was 17 and now at 24, being a personal trainer for three years and teaching hundreds of people how to deadlift, I still teach it almost exactly how he did in that video I watched MY GOAT
I fell in love with deadlifting because of this gentleman 12y ago and I can not be thankfull enough for all the information he put out, it got me into studying more and going outside the box of 3x12 machine workout, pushing myself to where I thought only mad man would go! People should be thankfull for this man's passion and all he did regarding strenght training
I had not touched a barbell in years and years . I think it was 2016 when I accidentally watched my first Elliot Hulse video on KZread. I don’t remember what it was but it inspired me to get back into lifting. Although I am not as consistent as I should be in the gym , I try to take better care of myself. I really appreciate this video and how your giving Elliot his due . Elliot Hulse videos have a lot to die with me finding Allan Thraws channel.
yo Elliot was the first fitness youtube channel I watched back in 2008 when I started training. loved his content back then.
what a cozy video. Another W video. Felt nostalgic
Well said, a video long overdue! Thank you Alan…. Thank you Elliot.
Elliott, Mike Chang, Scott Hermann, Athlean, Nic Wright, Chris Jones, Goggins, etc. Loved all these guys. The OGs of KZread fitness. Alan is getting old too now, lol. My 1st Elliott video that I can remember was a question about cutting and he gave simple solutions like walking every morning.
Elliott inspired me. I spent over 10 years working & saving, buying property, saw milling trees for my own lumber, and ultimately building a full on gym. Nearly 15 years later, I never opened to the public and it’s now HQ for my professional business. During that time though I lifted, under my roof, with the best of friends and family. Almost all the equipment lives on now in my friend’s gym. And I still have a lifting setup in the middle of HQ. My friend & I once met him, unannounced arrival to his gym, traveled from out of state. The single most meaningful meet of all my living hero’s. I’m sorry I added to the problem. Thanks for everything. Good video, Alan.
An OG. Loved this piece
I loved Elliott back when I started in 2015. I remember struggling with gaining weight, and eventually ran his "bulking program". This helped me pack on actual weight as opposed to running brosplits and it introduced me to a new way of lifting. Also, I enjoyed watching much of his commentaries. Great guy
Not sure the first video I watched but my best friend and I got so much from him at university 2008 - 2012. I'd watch every video he posted and always learn something.
Great video Alan. Elliott was a great inspiration for training.
I remember knowing about strongman and trying to train it with things in my yard when I was like 6 or 7 and I could never remember why thank you for reminding me
It’s been so long ago I can’t remember the specific video of Elliot’s I saw first. Sometime after he took a break from it all. I was searching KZread for dead lift technique videos. That’s how I found your videos. Now I know why I was getting strong Elliot style vibes when watching your stuff 👍
Elliot is a G, learned a lot from him when I first started lifting.
Just want to say youre the one that inspires me to train harder
A man, coach, father-figure and leader. Elliot encompasses many things in the life of a man like me. Even to this day I look up to him to make some sense of the world, truly a one of a kind person. TRAIN UNTAMED LETS FCKING GO!
Wow that’s how I feel about you Alan. Thanks for being an inspiration to me.
So nostalgic, at the time I was just bodyweight training and Elliot was my sole inspiration to build my own home gym and start lifting weights .
Love these e-true-hollywood stories! Keep em coming! So nostalgic!
Besides Elliott Hulse personal training videos his words of wisdom motivation life advice made me who I am today. Learning to become a stronger version of myself.
