This has to be one the the most "real" videos we have ever uploaded on KZread. It isn't always easy showing your failures, especially when the failures seem endless, but that is what is so awesome about the RC hobby. The feeling you get when something starts flying after a ton of failures is indescribable! Even though this PNP setup may seem easy to some, it was a challenge for us; however, we learned so much from our first Delta Wing experience and we are excited to bring more rc planes like this to the channel. Enjoy our video of the Wing Wing Z-84!

I had exactly the same problems like you guys had! Was very nervous and had some issues with the elevons, setting up the transmitter, finding the right channels, trimming, even had an esc fried as well, broke quite a few props, broke the nose, etc. When I finally got it to fly I was so nervous I was shaking when I landed it. Very nice of you guys to have the guts of filming a maiden flight.
You need to have some expo (start with about 20%) . Wings don't need a lot of control movement to fly well. Loose the Deans connectors and switch to XT60s.
Absolutely lovely honest video, I think it's awesome how you take failures to a learning experience, you guys are the best!!!!👏👏👏👏

TheRcSaylors no worries, everyone has had experiences like this. You guys aren't the first to have a crazy maiden flight, just maybe the first to do it in front of a zillion KZread viewers ;)

You need to add some reflex on the elevons to help you launch, also dial in some expo to make it less twitchy on control input, check and maybe reduce endpoints/throws too.
Your BEST video to date!!! It's a totally different feel flying with elevons. I had (still have) a Zagi about 15 years ago and LOVED flying it! I flew it so much that the 3 battery packs I had all gave out. Might have to dust it off.... But not until I get my "son's" Xmas present, a Hubsan H501S, worked out. Can't wait!
I know this is an older video, but I've flown wings for a long time. Strykers were my favorite, when launching your wing, you are holding it with your palm facing up, thumb on top of the wing. Try launching with your thumb on the bottom fingers on top. This makes it easier to get the proper angle of attack for launch.

Thanks for the great tip! I’ll have to try this the next time I’m out with a wing! 👍💯😎⚓️
I love this video because you guys aren't afraid of showing that everyone isn't perfect, and mistakes happen to everyone... I love how down to earth yall are! You did great Abby! I'm jealous and want a wing so bad! Love your guy's channel!
Good job guys!!! Glad you could share the experience with us all! Super cool!
Wings are my favorite plane to fly, a nice clean launch takes some practice, or lots of thrust 😁
Congrats you two!!! So nice to hear you both supporting each other!

Thank you Victor!
Not sure if your transmitter has a place for a lanyard, but if it does, it makes hand launching so much easier, you can easily use just 1 hand on the controls while using the other to launch and not have to worry about holding up/onto the radio while doing so.
Big time props to Abby! The lady has found her calling, and its called Wing Racing. She's a natural born wing flyer, for sure😉

Abby has reached a new level of flying, great job. Thanks for the video Nate, love your video.
What an awesome aircraft. Of the headaches that you had with it, it sure paid off after changing out the ESC plus the trimming adjustments & now flies like a champ. Excellent video Nate & Abby!! :)
Ok so ive watched at least 75% of your vids and loved them. Watching you guys grow and improve. This is by far my favorite, totaly gives me the feel like im there wit ya. Abby you tore it up, awesome flight and commentary. Makin it look easy lol. Thanks for the great content.
Had one of these a couple of years ago. Awesome little delta wing. Ended up souping it up on a 4s lipo. Absolutely screamed. Now I think i want another one thanks to this video. Lol good work.
I really enjoyed watching this video. thanks so much for posting all of them.
Way to go Nate, you didn't give up, kept adjusting till you got airborne then off you go to the races. Literally, that thing can move. Abby you did fantastico‼‼. You sometimes doubt yourself at the beginning, but then you got it in the air,, and flew just as well as Nate.👍👍. Definitely not a beginners plane.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement :) I totally agree with you, not so much for beginners. At all really :/
Once you start flying wings there's no going back. It'll be an addiction before you know it.
What a great video guys!. the frustration, to the thrill of flying it successfully. My emotions we all over the place. from,, I can't fly one of those... to.... I would like one! You guys are an inspiration. It's good to see somebody with Nate's pilot skills go from frustration to win! shows us beginners how things work in the real world. keep em coming.
Awesome video I really enjoyed it, thanks for not editing out the BEST parts, we all go through this process with new rc models on maidens and is good to see others struggle too, it does not matter how many stars we have on our shoulders this will happen again and again LOL

We always try our best to include the reality of the hobby. I always get so frustrated when someone makes something simple look really easy, then I'm not able to do it. I think it's important to show this sort of stuff, and am really glad you enjoyed it!
The Z-84 is a favorite of mine, I have 3 of them outfitted differently, one with a 50mm EDF. After some of my larger wings were found to launch better from a bungee launcher I made I equipped all of my wings with small launch hooks, problem solved. Now iffy launches are a thing of the past and I can just enjoy them. Either add some different rates or add expo as these wings don't take much control surface deflection to fly well. Great planes!
👍 😊 Good flying you guys! Fast and small making it hard to control for beginners. Abby did a superb job flying it!
Great job. Keep going forward.
hey guys wow great job and abbey you killed it the more I watch you guys the more I love watching you there is an element of fun and excitement in your videos that some youtubers don't have cant wait for the next video peter uk

Thank you very much Chris! It was a nice challenge, especially to see it flying by the end of our day :)
Nice! Your piloting skills are sharper than mine, but I've been flying delta wings for a few years now, so it was fun watching you work through it. You guys rock!
hi Nate and Abbey, 2 tips: Tip1, wings need a little reflex to fly. It means that you have to trim it up several degrees to increase the angle of attack. Tip 2, if you (just like me) don't know how to program the qx7, use the opentx companion software. There's a very easy setup wizard that allows you to setup models with elevon configuration, v-tail etc. Good luck and keep up with the video's!
I loved this video because it was entertaining without editing out the real learning experience. It also introduced me to flying wings as an option that could work for me. Bought this plane! Thanks 😀
Great video! I bought one of these a few years ago, and never was able to get it to fly. I really like that you showed your struggles getting it to fly however, I wish you would have gone over the corrections in detail so others might learn from your experience. Again GREAT VIDEO!!
Wow..., the suspense!!! I'm a new subscriber. That was awesomr Abby! Great job trimming it Nate!
this looks like a lot of fun!

Nice, I just started flying the Z84's bigger sister the C1 Chaser. I had a lot of similar struggles setting it up as you guys but I got some help from a friend who already has wings. Really enjoying it, I got it trimmed out so straight that it's easier to fly it with the stabilizer turned off.
This is what I mean good job guys but a recommendation for a first wing is something that's light
WOW! That looks like a blast to fly.
Great vid, guys! Nate and Abby... you rocked this one! Well done! 😀

Haha, thanks a lot guys! Hope you've had as much fun this summer as we have been :-)
Great job guys, I'd say I would have liked to been there to help, but when you lean yourself you get that much better at setup and launches. General rule for wings and new setups: keep your throws on the aileron to a minimum and give yourself about 40% expo on the first flight then turn it up on subsequent flights. A good amount of elevator is ok with some expo. Don't worry about the props, they will get out of the way everytime you land (as long as the throttle is off) Great video, and that rtf is quick!

good job guys , learning experience for all, I have other brand delta wing with safe , and its does ok but you do need to own a some glue, keep u p the work
Great Job Guys Good Take off Abby
Any type of "Wing" That requires an "elevon" setup will need to have up trim added in order to hand launch it. Also, if you turn the rates down a bit and add some exponential, you'll have a much better experience. Looks like you choose a good beginner setup, it seems to hold up to crashing pretty well. A delta wing can be alot of fun, and they're fast. Good luck.
Wow! Wow! Wow....Abby. You go girl. How brave you have been through your video's. LOL

Reminds me of the parkzone stryker I had nearly 10 years ago. That plane was so much fun! I customized one into a black cat fireworks theme decals and all. It was bad to the bone ;) I would go up and dive straight down full throttle and pull up at last second. I done some crazy fast daring maneuvers. We loved high speed fly by's!

Expo!! That reminds me of my buddies and I when we first tried some wings, they're a whole different type of bird. They're also a lot of fun when you get the hang of them. Learning to launch them is a trial and error process. Take everybody's suggestions and find the launch your most comfortable with. I wound up holding one wing tip and let the torque of the wing pull itself out of my hand as I tossed it up in the air. Good job guys, Happy Flying!
Great video guys! I started looking around at Z-84's after watching your video and found a guy (3dxl on KZread) in Indonesia. He has made several versions running an Ardupilot (autopilot) system and has flown over 72.6km or 45 miles round trip on one 3500mah 4S battery! (not exactly legal here in the US) but amazing to see what can be done with a few electronics and a tiny plane. I think he even runs it off his smart phone!
You two are so much fun to watch , 16 mins. well spent !

tip for launching wings put your four fingers on the top of the wing instead of on the bottom. it will be easier to launch. good flying. i fly fpv wings. they are lots of fun. also how was the build time and difficulty putting it together on this? i am thinking about getting this. it would be nice addition to the family.

OMG Fantastic video. I enjoyed this video the most from all RC videos that I have seen. Realistically crashing at the beginning crash after crash something obviously wrong delta wings have to be perfectly balance with the CG. Anyway when Nate finally got it into the air it flipped over was like totally out of control I screamed and then finally laughed when it crashed again. So funny. LOL I must admit Abbey did terrifically only the second try and away it went! I saw another video where the guy threw it holding it in the middle and his fingers and tendons were cut. It was horrific. They threw it up in a very very safe way. Please watch and learn. Better crash and buy another one then chop up your fingers.!!!!
Whatever happened to pre-flight check Nate and Abby lol. I get it you were super excited to get the d wing in the air. Trust me we have all been there. I had a 2m electric glider and the elevator was reversed it did a loop 8 feet off the ground and landed flat luckily. I miss my Delta wing mine had a Mega motors ac16/15/3 with 5x5 Cf prop. It also had a 50 amp castle creations esc and a 4s 2000mah 40c thunder power lipo. We clocked it at 118mph level flight. I have an old FMA razor just waiting to be assembled after watching your video I'm getting the itch to fly it. Thanks you guys and gal.
Nice job!!! I am loving it!! I scratch built a T tail on mine so I had the elevator and ailerons...Elevons a whole different animal! WTG ABBY!!

You guys should check out the Bonsai form Hobby King. Just $20 for the air frame. Tips: Try to hand launch like a frizz bee. For me it works better. Make sure you put in some reflex in the elevons.
Gutsy move, Abby. I tip my hat. I showed some of your videos to my wife in the hopes she will get involved. Thanks...

What Abby said. Do not blame that ESC-fry on your piloting. :) I had DOZENS of takeoff crashes when I was learning to fly (also on flying-wings/deltas!) and despite most/all of them being more violent than this one, I NEVER fried an ESC, even the cheap SimonK $4 ones off Ebay. This one has to be a factory defect. I also severely doubt that power setup there could even pull 30A, let alone take a 30A ESC past its burst rating.
Dude , you are the luckiest turkey in the world, to be able to have that much fun with your honey,, hahahah, pricelesssssss.... Thanks for sharing!

Am I right here? You flew the wing without manipulating response curves and limiting the angles of the elevons? Man, respect, because I tried that, too and mine was flipping beyond any steer-ability. Really nice to see you guys struggling (meant in a positive way). This wing is really a beast and whenever I go out and fly it again after a break of several months, I feel like a complete beginner. Also it's very tricky to set the chinese FlySky transmitter up for wings. Good job!
