You are almost in the heart of unique and unparalleled very ancient Dravida Civilisation or nation. It is from here they set sail to found kingdoms in Cambodia, Lao, Indonesia, Borobudur, Angkor Wat alike. All built by Dravidians from the Southern Subcontinent, Hinduism happened to be their religion. Tamils of Sri Lanka come from here too. Thanks to the British Dravida nations became part of the Indian Union, after surviving thousands of yours on their own, and resisting all the invaders, not so with the Brits. That coast line is very famous for spices, and food is much spicer / hotter. Sri Lankan food is more or less related to the South as you can see. Enjoy and love to see more of your travels. Take care!

@@dunneytravelsBeware of fake propaganda history mixed information from unreliable sources. Dravidian ideology is a separatist political ideology in an Indian state called Tamilnadu, they always talks like cutting India as North and South. They are looking for building new Tamil Countries in South Asia. All Kingdoms in Ancient India were followed the Dharma irrespective of North, East, West or South. There is no BritishDravida nations. Thanks 🙏 Namaskaaram from Kerala ♥️🙏🇮🇳

Avoid Delhi and Mumbai at all costs. They're chaotic, unsafe for women, and will drain your energy. India offers countless stunning places beyond these overrated metropolises. Yet, most foreign tourists flock to these exhausting and stereotypical spots. For tranquility, head to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Flights are available from major cities. It boasts India's finest beaches and is remarkably safe. Don't miss Ladakh, Meghalaya, and Sikkim either. A quick online search will reveal their breathtaking beauty. India is home to over 60% of the Himalayas, making any village or valley in these mountains far superior to the chaotic big cities.

@@dunneytravels That's an exaggeration. We just had G20 in Delhi. It's a big city, you just need to avoid the shady Old Delhi areas/Paharganj where most foreigners like to stay and travel (for god knows what reason). Plenty of cheap accommodations in New Delhi.

CHAI MEANS TEA AND KAPPY MEANS COFFEE. Try to taste traditional cuisine while you are in Kochi and where ever you are in INdia , bcz the food and culture changes in every 100 km you travel and you can customize your food as required ie, less spicy no bones or mentioning specific needs while ordering.

As you are in Kochi now, and as you mentioned Jews and Chinese, you will realised that the Subcontinent always had visiting trading nations since very ancient times, including Arabs and Africans. South of the Subcontinent is unique with Dravida civilisation, language (not related to Indo Aryan which was introduced to the Subcontinent by the migratory tribes), culture, arts and music. The Subcontinent is NOT homogeneous since very ancient times! Glad you knew some history.

That fishing net originated in China. Introduced by one of Chinese naval general named Zheng He (spelling could be different) who was plying between Africa and China, long before Portuguese arrived in Asia. There is and ancient Chinese settlement in Kenya!!! By the way St Thomas too arrived millennia before establishing Christianity in Kerala, with a very large Christian, Catholic population to this day.

Nah this was just the case with the Malabar Coast, rest of India was not like this. Malabar Coast is unique because monsoon trade winds periodically hit Kerala like clockwork every year so it was very easy for Westerners (and even Chinese) to use as Tradewinds. Malabar Coast/Western Ghats was also the origin of Black Pepper, which was valued more than gold back then because it was necessary to preserve food before refrigeration. Malabari cosmopolitanism is unique not just by Indian standards but even by historical global standards. Malabar was globalized long before globalization was a thing

Aryan theory is a myth and your history teachers have been conveniently lying to you. That theory has been debunked again and again and again. India was homogeneous since time immemorial, with different kingdoms, exactly like the Greeks.

Fort Kochi used to be Jewish, Dutch and Portuguese trading posts in the past, so you'll find an eclectic mix of architectures there. Kochi/Malabar was the origin of the historical India ocean spice trade since black pepper is indigenous to Malabar Coast of India. Kochi/Muziris is an ancient city with significant global history. For example, Christopher Columbus was seeking the spice trade route to Kochi/Malabar when he accidentally discovered the Americas. Dutch East India Company (which was the origin of capitalism) was also created to initially trade with Kochi/Malabar. It might not seem like much today but Kochi/Malabar shaped world history is very pivotal ways.

It is very hard to say which food is authentic considering the history, diversity, blending with ancient migrants and civilizations to the area. Nevertheless Biriyani, Thandoori, Tikka (I think it is a new cuisine from N-E than South) are very refined, even though I cant say about the origins. Imagine even Greeks were there thousands of years ago, during Buddha's time. Buddha statue is Greek Ark from Ghandara.

Malabari cosmopolitanism is unique by Indian standards for historical reasons (why you see Dutch, Portuguese, Jewish influences over there). Kerala is a uniquely erudite and civilized place in India. Don't expect the same elsewhere in India, be warned. Although not very urbanized, Kochi is the Indian equivalent of Macau or Hong Kong in China. It's where the West has met the East for centuries. Delhi especially is not like this and can be a very insular place, be warned. I always suggest foreign tourists to India to avoid Delhi. It's a very dangerous and polluted urban hellacape, very different from the natural and cosmopolitan cultural charm of small Kochi.

That's such a nasty thing to say. If you're not civilized or haven't encountered with civilized people, it's your fault. I as a Bengali felt deeply hurt by your negative comments painting the 'rest of India' as barbaric or uncouth. It almost feels like you're the arrogant uncivilized person here.
