Exploring Kochi With Kids | India Travel Vlog

We start our travels off in India living in Kochi.
Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a vibrant city located in the southwestern state of Kerala, India. It's often referred to as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea" due to its strategic location along the Arabian Sea coast. Here are some key aspects of Kochi:
Historical Significance: Kochi has a rich history dating back several centuries. It was a prominent spice trading center for centuries and attracted traders from across the globe, including Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, and British. The city's cultural heritage reflects this diverse influence, visible in its architecture, cuisine, and traditions.
Cultural Diversity: Kochi is a melting pot of cultures, religions, and ethnicities. It has a sizable population of Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Jews, each contributing to the city's cultural tapestry. The presence of various communities is evident in the city's festivals, cuisine, and religious landmarks.
Attractions: Kochi offers a plethora of attractions for visitors. The historic Fort Kochi area is famous for its colonial-era buildings, Chinese fishing nets, and the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace. The Jewish Synagogue, one of the oldest in the Commonwealth of Nations, and the vibrant marketplaces of Jew Town are also must-visit destinations.
Backwaters: The serene backwaters of Kochi are a major draw for tourists. A network of interconnected canals, lakes, and lagoons, the backwaters offer a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Houseboat cruises are a popular way to explore the backwaters and experience Kerala's scenic beauty up close.
Cuisine: Kochi is a paradise for food lovers, especially seafood enthusiasts. The city's cuisine is influenced by its coastal location and multicultural heritage. Visitors can savor a variety of dishes ranging from traditional Kerala cuisine like appam and stew to international fare served in upscale restaurants.
Art and Culture: Kochi has a thriving art and cultural scene. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale, held every two years, is one of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Asia, attracting artists and art enthusiasts from around the world. The city also hosts numerous cultural events, music festivals, and dance performances throughout the year.
Economic Hub: In addition to its cultural significance, Kochi is also an important economic hub. It is home to the Cochin Port, one of the largest seaports in India, which plays a crucial role in the region's trade and commerce. The city's economy is driven by sectors such as tourism, maritime industries, IT, and spice trading.
Overall, Kochi is a fascinating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking an authentic Indian experience.

For your next trip, you can pick a quiet Himalayan town to explore. With kids, it will be a great place to chill. I will recommend Mussorie and Lasndowne. Mussorie is more commercial, gorgeous city surrounded with mountains while Lasndowne is quieter, scenic and slightly more expensive. The latter used to be a British military regiment so tons of commercial architecture to see. And there are beautiful little bakeries to explore, small treks in the mountains. Just make sure you book a place cause the town is small so it often runs out of places to stay at. I believe your kids would love it, and so will your wife. The Indian cities like Delhi etc can be very overwhelming, even for us Indians. We always find small places like these to go to when we get the time and money to tour.

Great choice of place, although the season is a little wrong. I firmly believe that Kerala is the easiest introduction to India, its tropical, the food is great, its cleaner and also less scammier than some of the tourist regions of Northern India - you know the famous Golden triangle. I hope your kids are liking the place, do drink tons of coconut water, and some non-packaged curd. The coconut water will calm your stomachs and the curd will be a good probiotic to introduce you to the different enzymes in this climatic region. The beggar scene is annoying, I agree. Its also quite sad but I would recommend never to give them money - offer them food, especially if its kids following you.

Hi , Don't call them Tuk-Tuk technically there are no tuk-tuk in India ... for clarification we don't call them 'tuk-tuk' here (tuk-tuk is a Thai made up word bcoz of diesel engine knocking sound in theirs) we here call them "Auto Rikshaw" and in short we call them just "Auto" and to stop or call them on road for traveling we shout Auto Auto hey Auto like that , also we have non motorised human powered version "Cycle Rickshaw" too plus we have smaller different shaped electric one too which we call "Battery Rickshaw" .
