Our Borneo highlight! Travel Vlog Malaysia
We got to see mama turtles laying her eggs, how the rangers working here carefully remove the eggs and bury them in the safer confines of the island’s hatchery, and a bunch of baby turtles go back to the sea! AND all of this on an island that looks like absolute paradise!
The Island (the real name is Pulau Selingan) is a part of a group of islands, all of them with hatcheries and rangers working on them, and it’s the only one that allows visitors. They are all protected and turtles come to lay eggs there all year around!
We booked our tour through a hostel called Sandakan Backpackers, and payed $165 pp. It was quite pricey, but it was one of the best things we have done on this trip so far! With the price you get:
- 1 night accommodation
- 1 x lunch, 1 x dinner, 1 x breakfast
- A guide in the evening to show us all
- Transportation back and forth from the island
An important thing to remember is that there are a maximum of 50 visitors allowed at the island a night, so you need to prebook your trip! We ended up staying in Sandakan for a few days waiting for an opening!

Islands worth hopping in Eastern sabah are: 1. Bohey dulang 2. Sibuan 3. Mantabuan 4. Mataking 5. Timba-timba 6. Pom-pom 7. Layang-layang atoll (diving) - controlled by military 8. Mabul (diving) - inhabitants are foreign sea gypsies. Unfortunately they are not the cleanest people. 9. Sipadan (diving) - controlled by military 10. Kapalai

Sabah has many beautiful islands but they are quite far from the main city

$165 usd per person, that’s with transportation from hotel, boat, accommodation and food 🤙 Only extra drinks and the taxi back to hotel is not included 👌
Let me explain, you are not allowed to do daytrip or swimming on certain areas because of pirates or terrorists from southern philippines.

This is not the most beautiful island. The most beautiful and internationally acclaim island is Sipadan.
