Hey Greg! Love your videos! Question: having the electric poly cable over the tank, does that also work with horned cattle like highlands? I feel like the horns might catch on it and might wrap around the horns

They will learn to respect the wire when they drink. Just make sure you give them enough room for them to get their mouth in the tank.

Greg, could you cover how you determine where to put your ponds, and the process of what you have to do to put in a pond? I want to put one in but not sure about where to put it in on my property.

Not sure if it's true... but I have heard waterfowl will bring eggs in on their feet if they land there. ... I imagine perhaps cattle could pick some up on their whiskers and hair when they drink... and pass them on to your tank...

What would a long range wireless float malfunction warning device be worth in dollars?

Very cool video Greg...designed like a giant toilet bowl. How much higher in elevation is the pond from the tank? Do you have more than one tank being supplied by the same pond? If so, do you run a common line with a shutoff and then branch lines to each tank with individual shutoffs?

Yes we have a lake that feeds two tire tanks. Each tank has it's own shut off valve. The tank in this video has a pond above it, 16 feet above the tire tank height.

@@gregjudyregenerativerancher I guess I did have one other question. Do you normally remove the ice sheet that is in the top? If so how difficult is it to remove the float from being stuck in the ice and running the risk of breaking the string? If you just cut a hole in the ice I'm thinking the cows would eventually empty the tank with the float stuck at the top.

@@HuntsT We take all the ice off the tank when the cattle are in that paddock with that particular tire. A set of rubber gloves are a real asset to remove the larger blocks of ice.

I am wondering about a new slab, that lime is so Alkaline, it is considered a hazardous substance. I have a picture, from the regenerative Rancher from North Dakota, a cow reclining on the warm hood of an expensive automobile.

Greg, when you say the cows are leaving that particular farm, are they going to an adjoining piece of ground or do you have to trailer them around?

He drives them farm to farm. Sometimes on the road a little ways. He's got some videos of doing that in the summer and fall you can check out.

@@FidelisLawnService 16 farms are all with in 5 miles. 12 of the farms all touch each other in a long line.

Greg would the seed germinate and survive if I sowed some Fescue seed this March in my pasture? I was just going to sow a few bags of Kentucky 31? We need some diversity. Thank you for all your Videos...

I'm surprised you don't already have fescue. The stuff is practically a weed where I'm at. Folks curse it, and say it's no good for feed unless its baled as hay. I'm from the Connecticut River Valley, MA, and I broadcast grass and legume seed in late winter. Works great. The freezing and thawing works the seeds into the soil. I don't do it much because of the cost, but I'm planning to do a small field that's just bare soil and gone to seed golden rod in March.

Kentucky 31 Fescue is our mainstay grass in central Missouri. Learn how to manage it and you will make more money from it than any other grass in the midwest!! Your best grass seeding period is in mid August when all the other plants are dying back for the fall. Your young seedlings do not have to compete with moisture from the weeds.

Aren't you concerned about the leaching of the tire chemicals when the temp heats up. Perhaps line it with concrete or a Thick mm pond tarp that is safe for live stock, birds etc.

I have taken water samples for 15 years, never detected any chemicals whatsoever in our tire tanks. It is vulcanized rubber, not raw rubber.

@samo zeleno if you don’t believe him, why would you believe a paper? Papers can be faked very easily these days.

Did u see josh the Stoney ridge farmers video yesterday how one of his calves died in his water trough. So funny you just talked about keeping calves out

Looks like some straw... wheat straw into ponds will prevent algae.

If you made a box, just 4 sides, with a window set in it, some caulk to keep the water coming in, you could get a good view of that plant. No need to do that, but it would give you the opportunity to study it if you were so inclined.

Your videos make me dizzy. You might want to consider not constantly moving your camera around so much. I watch many other farming channels and none of them have ever made me dizzy watching them.

@@gregjudyregenerativerancher No apology necessary. I was just trying to make a suggestion that might make your videos more enjoyable to watch. A gimbal mount for your phone for around $100 probably would make a huge difference in the quality of your videos.
