Our 2020 Airstream Caravel 16rb is a Lemon. **Watch This Before Buying**

Ойын-сауық

We gave Airstream a break once but this time it got even worse and nothing has been done about this. This needs to be said.

This is sad and not right. . .My spouse and I are near 60 years old and want to travel small like you two are in our retirement. We considered an airstream bambi, but I am rethinking this idea now. You two are young and you WILL recover eventually. Nothing should die in a camper. Good luck and best wishes :)

If you ever sell your Airstream, who ever buys it, they may not have any issues for a long time because you have worked out all of the issues. This is why it's better to buy used RV's because the previous owners already worked out and fixed most of the issues since brand new RV's have a lot of issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience...I'm glad to know how things are progressing especially since I had been considering an Airstream. I highly recommend a legal firm called Taylor & Hodges. They specialize in the lemon law and if Airstream isn't going to make it right voluntarily, they may need to be forced to make it right. This legal firm helped us many years ago when we had a Ford that was a lemon...in the shop multiple times for major issues and was dangerous to drive. It caught on fire on the busy 405 freeway with a child in the car. We drove it for 3 years and got most of our money back. I hope you post more videos on how things are going.

I recommend a Trip to Jackson Center, have the factory service department take care of your problems. My 2017 Flying Cloud has been serviced there twice for routine service and some upgrades, and they took care of our Airstream service needs. Your Carvel has some obvious plumbing water leaks and propane leaks that need to taken care of.

First thank you for this information. My wife and I really like the airstreams and want to consider it for our purchase. BUT, for the steep price point of these trailers, Airstream really needs to slow production and re-evaluate their quality (or lack of) control on EACH unit that leaves their plant. I just signed up over on the Air Forums to get information and an idea of customer satisfaction and issues (we like the basecamp 20x or FC23). Wow, was amazed of the many others calling out issues with their new trailers. Disappointed in hearing this.

It would worth your $ to buy a trailer if you have time go camping at least once a month for the next 10 years! Rental fee cost about $200/night. Says you go camping 3 days every month. That’s $600/months = $7,200/year. You do not need to worry about maintenance, repairs, registration fee, insurance etc.

So, since this posting have you heard back from Airstream? Ive been considering to get either the International or Flying Cloud. How they rectify this says a lot about the company. Do they care about their reputation or are they just interested in selling units? What dealership serciced your unit. Sounds like they are a major part of the problem.

I saw your other video and thought it, but didn't write it, but I feel compelled to now. ANY RV is going to have its issues and if you aren't handy with basic repairs, then buying an RV is a really bad decision to make. The things you are describing aren't that big of a deal to find and repair on your own. If you rely on dealerships or the manufacturer to fix basic things then you are going to be very disappointed in owning any RV. Airstreams quality is better than most.....if you don't believe me, just do your research on the other manufacturers and you'll see in the real world what happens with lesser priced RVs that are made in a very fast production facility.

They have remodeled the inside twice I think. The first things they ditched was the propane cooker, sink and bathroom. They live totally off grid with solar panels and a mini wood stove.

My brother-in-law has an old Airstream he purchased used and basically rebuilt. Rivets coming loose, missing, etc., are a constant for him but he took some classes during various Airstream rallies so he's confident he can work on most issues while on the road. I watched another video not long ago with a family towing an Airstream. Brand new, first trip, double digit rivets popped, part of the dinette pulled away from the way, bathroom cabinet fell off, you name it. I think his video noted 10-major things that Airstream needed to fix. As noted below, simply because you are paying a ton of money for a trailer doesn't mean you are getting quality. If you want to pull something small, check out the nuCamp t@b 400. Unlike your Airstream, the 400 has a separate bedroom/dinette area and I think the 2021's start around $43k where the 2021 aravel 16rb starts at $70k. Insane money

Sad but good video. If I were you, without a doubt, I'd be taking a road trip to the Ohio Factory. Seems like RV Dealers aren't any better than Car Dealer's. There are those that will bend over backwards to do the right thing and others who forget who you are once you hand them the check. You need to let the Dealer know you're going to go public with their info and do your best to put them out of business. And I have been seriously considering the BaseCamp 20X.

Seems after seeing many other reviews on airstream trailers, they are plagued with problems, and being so expensive, that sucks too much. Seems quality in the last few years has gotten really awful, because older airtsreams had less issues. Thanks for posting this, helped me to decide NO AIRSTREAM for me 😎

Our Bambi is over 20 years old. We bought it a few months old in 1999. Only issue we’ve had since we bought it was the water pump leaking similar to the one in this video. Nothing else has ever broken to date. Quality is down because greed for profits is out of control as they rush these Airstreams out as quickly as possible. We have a friend that bought the 30’ classic in 2019 and is selling it due to all the problems. Imagine buying a car for $55,000 or over $110,000 and reading a commenter say they all have problems

Sorry for your luck..but you do need to learn to fix some things....the leaks happen in trailers..sometimes you hit a bump when driving and loosen a hose that causes a leak..this is not Airstreams fault. I do hope they fix everything for you..maybe you need to talk with the mechanic and ask what to look for if the propane alarm goes off or water starts leaking..etc so you can try to fix it and still enjoy your trip.

Euhm NO! That's just poor craftsmanship. Hoses must be able to sustain bumps and vibrations. That's going to happen when towed. Especially for that price. I was in Europe: the craftsmanship there on trailers and caravans is much, much, much better. How come they can do it, and Airstream not?

Let me put it in perspective. You buy a new car off the lot let's just say a Subaru. You drive it and hit a pebble in the driveway and your gas line starts leaking. Or your car starts leaking water whenever it rains or your reverse cam breaks or your door latch breaks. Or whatever you bought a new car not a used one so yeah I'm sure you'll be mad af.

The corner water leak you just filmed also happened to us with our 2019 Bambi 16RB. Airstream's service center in Jackson Center, OH diagnosed it as the water pump's small, round pre-filter's mesh screen (see, the clear / see-through bubble cap next to the water pump in the box under your road-side dinette cushion) being coated in "lime scale" after one summer season. They said that in addition to using a quality water filter, you must clean the pre-filter screen yourself a couple times a year as preventative maintenance using CLR or the like. (We were never told about this during orientation, however.) The leak from under that corner of the dinette bench has stopped for now, and we will clean it out regularly.

Haven’t decided if I want to subscribe yet. Like others have said the content around the Airstream was what drew me in, but many videos are off that topic now. Channel needs to focus on that to build subscriber base...then you can add in other content. If content is not focused people won’t subscribe. Also, watched the video about answering subscriber questions. Interesting answer on why you got the Porsche. I do think the Tacoma was a bad choice for a tow vehicle especially since it had a 4 cylinder. Plus you needed a weight distribution hitch. The tongue weight of the RV plus whatever you may have loaded in the bed made your front end too light and therefore induced the swaying. The Porsche will do better, but I would have opted for a full size Truck like a Ram Rebel with tow package. Porsche is nice, but it seems you guys got here by saving money and being smart with expenses. The Porsche cost to own is going to put a dent in your budget, but it looks like you guys have good positive cash flow so go ahead and enjoy. I plan to tow a Caravel 22FB with a BMW hopefully later this year when I can get ahold of one.

Airstream is trying to deflect these shortfalls and squeeze what they can out of a once great legacy. Seen this happen with manufactures across many different brands.

It takes many man hours to build airstreams and they actually are more durable now with new construction materials.

@@teejay9483 More durable huh? As this and many other videos and blogs have shown throughout recent years? Like I said - Airstream is just like every other manufacturer, living off a legacy and NOT quality control. Corners are cut and time is saved. As long as they maintain a 5% margin of "quality" above the other laminate builders, they'll keep trying to make sales at their price point. It's ridiculous - This young couple invested $60K in to what they thought was a "durable" American made design, only to find its all glued together with foreign materials. Not even Elmer's Glue!! Again - I'm sure at one point Airstream was the "Bee's knees", but that time has passed. There is no "extra" time/effort put in to the build of their trailers. There's no magic workshop that justifies Airstream selling a 16' trailer at $60K+. Garbage. Wish it wasn't so, but the American dream of quality craftsmanship is lost with whomever is running this company now.

They are the best design but when you bounce down the road it’s inevitable things break. Better to stay in motels if you can’t repair the small stuff on your own because this happens to all of us.

Euhm NO. I was in Europe; craftsmanship in USA compared to European trailers/RV'S/caravans; not even in the same ballpark. Over there: the vehicles are tested to sustain rattles, bumps and inconsistenties. Even though they have better roads. I was on a factory tour there; the suspensions and completed vehicles are tested there in the factory; to test the parts itself, later to test the mounted part on the vehicle, and then again tested in real life. Suspensions, gas pipes, rubbers, all is tested in extreme weather conditions. And their use of space and creativity is also on a much higher level. So, this RV, is just the fault of Airstream delivering poor quality and to few quality checks.

It’s not worth owning an RV unless you’re going to learn to fix those type of things on your own. Just pull up the cushions and find the leak. Propane would be leaking from connection at the stove or heater, easy to find and fix.

When something is still under warranty at the cost these things cost, then the company should repair it. It doesn’t matter the item. One of the reason airstream keeps a high value is their warranty. This is not people being over their heads. That’s like saying you should repair your brand new car when something breaks. So your seatbelt and airbag breaks, you’re fixing it? GTFOH

@@BuckleBunny I absolutely fix things on my brand new truck when it’s easier to do it yourself then to sit at the dealership for half a day. Leaving your RV at a dealership for a month to fix things unless it’s something that cost several thousand dollars just doesn’t make sense, especially if it’s your home.
