Ouma Katrina is one of a few people left who can speak the indigenous Khoisan language. She opened a school in Upington to pass on her knowledge, but it was vandalised during the lockdown. #Newzroom405's Zinhle Kanyane filed this report.

It's tought at times to preserve a "dead" (meaning not evolving) language. Since new words and ideas are invented every day. Lots of languages out there don't have words for technology things like email or telemarketing. Even a word like laser can be very difficult to translate into an old language.
I will real love to visit this school and this cultural heritage
She reminds me of my grandmother 🥺

Me too. It's funny my grandma's name is also Ouma.
Love this culture.. Please contribute
There is no such thing as "The Khoisan Language." There are many Khoisan Languages. Be accurate, she is the last N|uu speaker. We still have thousands Khoekhoe, Khwedam and and X!un speakers in South Africa. There are also still a few who say they speak Korana.

@@johannesdekoning9521 I think they mean Southern Africa. Well, in any case, there are also Khoisan speakers in South Africa (the country).

Well if her dialect is one of the ones on the bridge of extinction then it must be preserved & protected. I think that's what they're trying to say. But Khoisan clicking langugage is very beautiful & exotic. People seem to be very well mannered & nice of the few videos I watched. I would love to visit them in their nature one day. Very welcoming people.

This is Nama a Khoi language .sadly it is not recognised as an official language . What an injustice , since the Khoi and San people are the only true indigenous people of South Africa !

Khoisan, was, is and never will be, it was a collective name given to a once proud people by a German anthropologist and Zoologist called Leonhard Schulze, around 1926 in Namibia. The fact people use the term Khoisan shows a lack of respect and a lack not knowledge. The truth will set you free. Khoisan is a derogatory term !khwena/Quena Xhaam/Xam are the real names as a collective and the names like Nama Korana Hessequa Attaqua etc are clan or names that indicate which area you come from. Let's revive a culture under attack with truth.
I have a South African friend who used to live in the Netherlands now living in Ireland , She speak this language very well with her mother
I would love to learn N|uu.
Great video. Second part of my videos is my native language, Khoekhoegowab. I am a proud Damara and with a unique special language like my mother tongue, I prefer to show the world awareness of its existence ❤🇳🇦🙏

Can you explain to me where nama fits in . Thanks
Strange how we have 11 official languages in South Africa yet not one indigenous from the Khoi, San, Nama etc is recognised.
