Nice review John this is what I needed to see.

I bought my Otto’s to go in my active shooter response kit…they keep my ears safe and provide hearing enhancement for ‘hunting’. I love the fact you can get 16 hours continuous use from one charge and the case can charge them MANY times! My response kit is a Maxim PDX SBR in a Havoc Plan B sling pack…very slick and inconspicuous package 🍻

@@Michaelluo712 Yes…better than an over the ear muff style since they fit inside your ears. There’s a kit to tie them into the 3.5mm jack on your comms microphone too. They’re worth the cost 👍🏻

Great review. I use Otto Noise Barrier Micro's (in ear) with Comply foam buds (bought separately) for shotgun as the over the ear Sordins hit the gun stock when I mount the gun to my shoulder and cheek. I use the MSA Sordin Supreme X Pro when firing my 9mm handgun, or just standing around while others shoot, as I feel I get a little more protection with the over the ear. I love them both and their ability to clearly amplify the "speaking voice" while dampening the gun blast is amazing. Yes, both are expensive, but you only have one set of ears and tinnitus sucks. It really sucks. Ask anyone with permanent ringing in their ears how much they like that. Or, how much your spouse likes having to yell at you to get your attention (ok, maybe that's an advantage). These two are absolutely worth it. Protect your hearing with the best equipment. Trust me...as you get older you will be very, very glad you did. Signed, A shooter and a doctor.

Awesome to see Otto products. I used to work there years ago.

I was lucky enough to get a pair of these provided by my employer. I really like them. As an FI, I’m on the range all day and I forget I even have these in. Really nice in 100+ degree weather. Allows me to wear a sun shielding boonie hat. Battery easily lasts all day and they’re ready to go fully charged, every time. Also no issues with cheek weld. I’ll never go back to over the ears. Of course I’m way too cheep to have bought these on my own. So expensive.

$300+! Wowza! They had better come with the answer to all of life's questions. The mini pelican case looks UNSC issued though (Halo fans?) My harbor freight muffs over foam plugs on the other hand, next to free. Albeit, the obvious drawbacks when training and listening in a class.

Appreciate the review John, as I said, for me, I went for these because I wanted something I can wear more or less regularly in normal life. Can't really go about your day as easily with earmuffs as you can as plugs. The big factor was being able to hear normally but not have a headset on all day.

@@ASPextra Not every day but if I'm going to certain places or doing certain things I'll wear them as a sort of buff to my EDC kit. I can't afford to lose any more hearing!

Thanks for this review! I'm looking for good ear pro that I can use with hearing aids. I have over the ear Harold LIght, which work fine for short shooting times. But I recently took a 4 day course and the over the ear ones wound up being downright painful wearing them so much! I also wear glasses, so I had my "seeing" glasses, plus eye pro over my glasses, plus hearing aids all behind my ears. The pressure of the over the ear muffs was horrible and got worse every day. If anyone has suggestions....

I use electronic ear muffs and take my hearing aids out when shooting a class or competition. I can still hear people talking this way. For over the ear muffs you have to find something comfortable. Soft comforming ear pads are the way to go and all the good/expensive muffs have replaceable pads. That will be the part that wears out and needs replaced the fastest. I use pro ears but I think they are over priced. The sordins that John uses seem decent and comfortable. When I am shootin outdoors by myself, I use non-electronic muffs and ear plugs together, it is so nice and quiet. At indoor ranges I use the electronic muffs turned up a bit and ear plugs. I can still hear the RSO that way and I get good sound reduction in the noisy indoor environment. If you need prescription glasses, get prescription shooting glasses. Wearing shooting glasses over your prescription glasses is difficult and will likely make wearing muffs more painful.

Oh shit! You actually went through with my request! Thanks John, God bless. I like my Ottos because I can wear them pretty comfortably and hear just like I do without any plugs in. I wanted something I could wear in normal life to protect what's left of my hearing, and not look weird with Sordins on at the store. Basically EDC hearing protection because I can't spare any more hearing even if it's not the top priority in a bad situation. The amplify is a little weird, it only deadens sound after it's already happened, I haven't tried shooting with them on amplify so I don't know if it lets sound get through but I've gotten riskier lately with using them by themselves and they work great for me on normal. I don't use amplify a lot, never used them shooting but I use the option sometimes in normal life outside doing field work. Did they filter enough sound on amplify or did it hurt your ears? If you can think of a better pair I'd love to try them. I went with these over the Peltors because of what people had told me about Peltors randomly failing and bad warranties. Did you by chance shoot or be around SBRs with those? That's the ony thing I've been nervous to do, is use them by themselves with an 11". (outside, I'm positive they'd blow my ears out with a shorty indoors) I don't shoot indoors, but there's an issue of echo here because of terrain. As long as these can handle use outdoors and emergency use with a handgun, maybe indoors or around buildings I think I'll be fine, I just wanted something that would give me adequate protection in daily life if I had to shoot but not impede my hearing like normal foamies would.

I was between these and the MSA Sordins. I’m glad I went with the Sordins. Love mine!

You should look into their over ear protection.

Yikes $400 I think I’ll stick with my sordins to. But I’d love to find a in ear option for those migraine days when I still have to teach

Taking cost out of the equation, can you use both Otto earplugs and Sordins at the same time or do they somehow interfere with each other?

I would bet you could use both. But they add 5dB of extra protection to do any in-ear under your over-the-ear.

Yeah I’ll stick with my over the ear, I’ve tried several in the ear and haven’t been impressed yet 🤷‍♂️ that’s not even factoring in the cost haha 😂 I’ll never understand why a company thinks their products are worth their weight in gold. Probably the OTTO.

I've heard that you should not have any degree of amplification on while at an indoor range. The reasoning is that your amplifying hearing protection, while it will " clip" the noise of the gunshot, it will not stop the noise of the echo coming off the range walls which is loud enough to damage your hearing.

How are these plus the Sordins? I would think that’s nirvana. I paid $399 for mine and I also have the 3M Comtac VI’s By the way, I hear the Ottos are incredible with custom ear plugs from an audiologist.

Better sound reduction. Voice amplification was worse.

You seem to compare these to Sordin, which does not have an in-the-ear option. If as an instructor, I prefer in-the-ear so that I can wear a large-brim hat out in the sun during the summer, I need an in-the-ear option.

Hi can u test them in a Thunderstorms I'm looking for noise canceling earplugs that I Can sleep and not have a Thunderstorms waking me up at night especially when I have work the next day. Am not concerned about the price so if anyone knows of any brands out there that go in your ear to sleep I have 1200 head set they removed the Thunderstorms nearly all the way down to 10% of the sound but it's impossible to sleep with. Ok thanks

Make shirts with your logo that say “… or whatever…”
