He lost his father very young as I did but his father's music is timeless. I know of no generation nor culture that doesn't love Otis Redding. I think of The Summer of Love at the fairgrounds in Monterrey in 1967. He was so different than other bands on the venue but he's the one who got them moving. 3:39 😮

I remember that day quite well, I was 12 yrs Old and from Atlanta, we claimed Otis Redding as one of our own even though He was from the big M we called it, Macon, Ga, That was the saddest Christmas ever, Otis Redding songs played over & over..Merry Christmas Baby..you sure did treat me right, just one on His many classics, Then Try A Little Tenderness became an anthem, with tears flowing from our eyes because our hearts was broken mourning His death, and those who was madly in love, then there was Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay which just amplified the tragic plane crash every time we heard it, because His plane was over loaded and missed the runway by several hundred feet and plunged into the Winona River in Minnesota, when they pulled Him out of the river He still had His seat belt on strapped to His seat, a terrible sight that the world saw, an image I can never forget as long as I live, YES...one of the most tragic events of my lifetime, an image I'll never forget, and If that wasn't enough, 4 months later Dr. King was assassinated, Those 2 events shaped my life in not a good way, But they helped me to understand how precious life is and how little time we have on this planet, RIP,,,BIG O...and Dr. King!! 😢😢😢❤❤😢

well, on a side note there is a huge library of music through the ages at your fingertips. And if you go looking plenty of artists still have the chops - and many more are able to flourish thanks to the availability of audio engineering. Some songs that are great would never have been made if the singer couldn't convey the vision in their head into reality.

So sorry to call out this false posting of a tragic event in Soul Music history- this video is NOT Leo's Casino in Cleveland where Otis last performed! This is a TV studio. I was at his last performance with a friend from Baltimore. We were students at Denison University and he was the brightest star in our galaxy. He performed in his signature dark gray shark's skin suit, sweating through it on a tiny and packed stage with the Bar-kays, dark lighting, funky beautiful night club. May he rest in peace without people mis-representing him... and bless his son OR lll as well.- I will always love you. I danced with my daughter at her wedding to this beautiful song.. Peter SIckels

2:31 I have no words. It's so fucking sad that this climax to the song is so powerful. And the last one before their untimely death. Rest in Peace Bar Keys.

in reality, he was a tragic figure with a profound sense of doom. He was a man on a mission leaving it all out there ln his later performances.
