The song began as a metaphor for the battle that unsigned bands go through to get their message heard as artists, then quickly transformed into an anthem for everyone living on the front-lines of life. "When I started writing the lyrics, I was staring at my bandmates and thinking that they are my brothers in arms," says the singer. "It was going to be our anthem, but by the time I finished I realized it was an anthem for our whole nation. We are all soldiers fighting for something, whether it's to put food on the table, to be heard, or just to be happy. Every soldier is human, and we're all human."

I read some of the comments below and many of them make me sad. I am a Captain in the military and I don't fight the front lines. My battlefield is in a medical tent healing those injured which is what I choose to do. My point to that is we all fight for something whether on a battlefield or in life in general. The point of this song and if you listen to the simple lyrics, "we stand shoulder to shoulder," is about erasing the hate, standing up... together..., and fighting that fight. It is the only way, no matter what battlefield, we can survive. I got the awesome chance to see him perform this live and he sent a great message conveying such. So I hope you guys stop looking too far into things creating controversy and accept the simple message that we all need to fight everyday together whether you are a soldier in the military or, as we all are, soldiers in life.

One more quick point... the very first images in this video state, "For the warriors who fight and die... so the rest of us may fight to live." Although, the video primarily focuses on the civilian side of the house, he definitely puts a shout out to my brothers and sisters-in-arms for what they do. He did that do I saw him as well. Good luck in your fight.

I love how this video shows the everyday heroes that often get overlooked. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for supporting our military, our police, our firemen and our medics. But this song encompasses so much more than that. We are ALL soldiers. We are ALL capable of being heroes every single day. This should be everyone's anthem.

The artist even said as much. He originally wrote it about unknown artists trying to be heard and having to fight hard to express themselves, and he then realized that this was bigger than that. That it's about the little guy in general.
The song is literally an anthem for us. For people. The singer actually talks about it in the description. This is a song about being alive and fighting. This is a tribute to all of us.

I remember joining the Army several years ago and life has been a rollar coaster ever since. I've had my good times and bad times, and admittedly, I've had moments in my life where I thought about how much I want to give up. I remember hitting a bad time in my life where I delved deep into drinking on a nightly bases and almost became reliant on alcohol so I can quit feeling the negative feelings that I went through. But I remember playing this song while drinking a beer and remembering what this song was to me. This was the song that played during my graduation ceremony from BCT, and we were holding the back of the uniforms of each other as we raced through the smoke. It was during the part "we stand shoulder to shoulder" that we all marched together in formation. Listening to this song and watching video of the individuals who must have also went through hard times in their lives, remembering the reasons why I'm serving, and knowing I'm not in this alone, I dedicated time to over come the pains I suffered through. I managed to quit drinking and found ways I can better myself as a person. To become stronger, not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well. While I still struggle to be more social, especially in light of the world we're living in today, I just need to remember that everyone is going through a tough time and we all have inner demons we're facing daily. The battles are tough, but we're all in this life together, and I hope that maybe one day, we all can win our battles that we face. We stand shoulder to shoulder, brothers and sisters, and let no differences between us separate us.

If one soldier dies the enemy will have to go through our entire military to face our wraith. When you die, soldier, cop, civilian, you death will not be in vain. You will all remembered. I want to give a huge thank you to our vets, active duty soldiers and police men(firefighters doctors and EMS) for your service and making MY country a safer place.

Graduated from Ft. Jackson a few weeks ago, and I cannot lie, marching out of the smoke WAS the most badass but emotional time of my life. The accomplishment of finishing, and simply having the opportunity to participate in doing something I love is astounding. I plan on attending RASP & Ranger School to truly do what I would like in this world. To defend who I truly love, and simply defend those who cannot defend themselves. “I am an American soldier”!- Soldiers Creed.
The choice of black and white and choosing ordinary people for this song is beautiful, each of us, in his world and with the pain and life of every day, is like a soldier and none of us can do it without the help of others. I only met this song now, in 2020 and it seems perfect with what's happening in the world because of the Covid.

We are in no way shape or form like the people who go through intense training, and throw themselves at gunfire and explosions. We are nothing like the men that watch their brothers die in front of them, not being able to help. We are nothing like the men that return home traumatized, missing limbs, missing themselves. Don't you dare make that comparison ever again.

Actually that is false, the actual song is talking about real solders and giving them thanks for fighting and risking their lives to allow the people back in the US to fight their own battles back home. It is not equating military service (A.K.A. real soldiers) to civilians fighting to live on.

Thanks to the bulgarian soldiers who had fought for our country and still fight for it! This song describes what they did and what they still do... Thanks soldiers!...
This was played at the place I met my best friend, my battle, my brother, and it was played the last time I ever saw him, just before he went 6 feet under, he will be remembered. He lived his life expecting to die in Afghanistan just to come home and be killed by a drunk driver, he had a little girl to, she has lived with me ever sense, this songs meaning is not just words, it is made to remind everyone, all of the other people on this earth that you can not fuck with us with out consequences, this is American and we are not going anywhere anytime soon.
Having listened to this song countless times back when it came out, and after looking for it for the past month, only vaguely remembering about it, I still remember every word to it like I just listened it to it yesterday

What does it mean to you today? To Me? It means we better stand up and fight for the woman and children before they take us all away from each other and there is no way out.
beautiful music .... I am from Brazil this music encourages me a lot when serving the special forces ....
To our brave medical teams and first responders pushing everyday to save who they can. I bow my head to you. Stay safe, stay strong, thank you.

I didn't find this song until after remembrance day of this year but I will listen to this song on Remembrance Day 2021
I just enlisted in the Army, and my cousin (who is also in the Army) was telling me how they blasted this song while they marched out of Basic. I'm incredibly nervous and I don't know what this decision will being, but this is just one of the many songs that reminds me why I did it
I'm a soldier for the national guard and this song reminds me of what I do and what I'm fighting for I've been severing my country for 10 plus years and this song is so amazing I salute to this song stay safe everyone
Thank you for making this song, I appreciated so immensely much, since hearing this during the final stage of Army basic training it has been a personal motivator song and personal anthem. It bring tears, pride, joy, anger... all the emotions to me, and a call to myself, to do better, to do my people proud. Thank you.
I'm a combat vet, and battle was terrible and trying, but sometimes fighting through the struggle in life feels harder than the war. Years upon years, it never ends, and you keep fighting through until it works out.
This song reminds me that for every military service member out there, there are more of us behind the scenes willing to start a fight on their behalf. Only the stupid or arrogant wake a sleeping giant!

That was the first time I heard this song - when my son graduated BCT at Fort Jackson this past April. It gave me chills. It was awesome seeing the soldiers march through the smoke to this song. Now every time I listen to it, it makes me think of graduation.

My grand father would have loved this song a master sargent in the airforce fought in korea and vietnam and 3 purple hearts and a bronze star for saving 3 people during an NVA attack on the air force base> he was my hero and why i wanted to join and i sadly couldnt because of mrntal health issues, wish i couldve made him proud to serve and i never got the chance to say how proud and brave he was and how much i looked up to him
This was what was played at my basic graduation and I had to come back and find this song cause it’ll never leave me
"We stand shoulder to shoulder" my favorite part of the song

Me and my dad love this song, This song is badass we play this in the challenger and blast the music, We had some really good times with this song, R.I.P Solders who served for us, Just like my dad.. He was a Marine For About 3 Years, R.I.P Our solders.... I appreciate you all, when i get older i wanna be a State Tropper, I'd rather die serving yhis country then knowing i did nothing for our society for the rest of my life, I'lltake a bullet anyday for my dad, or any of the officers or solders.
we are soldiers to do the right thing without recognition
My Papaw Gary once served in the Vietnam War. Even though it was not in the best of interests to fight, Papaw still did a civic duty to fight for his country. And he went & served his country twice. My Papaw was in the Strawberry Lightning/25th Infantry Division, and though he didn’t like to talk too much about the war given his PTSD soon after, he still served America well. He’s dead now, has been for almost 10 years now, but I still thank him for his service & keeping America safe.
não canso de ouvir essa musica! que adrenalina!
