Dear friends, the Christian prayer "Otche Nash" (Our Father) in Church Slavonic arranged by N. Kedrov Sr. is performed by the Yale Russian Chorus alumni during rehearsal for an upcoming concert at St. Mary's Episcopal Church at Penn (Philadelphia, PA, USA).
The concert was held on May 11, 2024 at 7:30 PM local time. Chorus alumni and students from many different eras traveled to Philadelphia to participate in this event-21 people! But this video shows only alumni singers; current Chorus members arrived from New Haven the following day and immediately joined rehearsals.

Over several days of rehearsals, Dan Godfrey (alumnus and conductor of the YRC from 1970 to 1972) masterfully molded the diverse singers into a cohesive group that produced a crisp, full sound that was emotional and engaging. The concert program consisted of the classical repertoire of the Yale Russian Chorus and was short enough to allow the singers to delve deeply and focus on each piece. The soloists were good and the Chorus balanced in parts.

Otche Nash-the Lord's Prayer, also called the Our Father (Latin: Pater Noster), is a central Christian prayer which, according to the New Testament, Jesus taught as the way to pray. It appears in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Nowadays, the Lord's Prayer is used in every service of the daily cycle in the Orthodox Church and in every liturgical rite performed (Matthew 6:9-13). This exposition of the prayer "Our Father" was written by Nikolai Kedrov Sr. in 1922 in exile in France and published posthumously there in 1949.
N. Kedrov Sr. (1871-1940) was a Russian opera and chamber singer (baritone), Orthodox composer and music teacher, creator of the Kedrov Quartet (first in Russia, then in exile, in France). The basis of the ensemble's repertoire in exile was the liturgical hymns of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Kedrov Sr. is one of the founders of the Russian Conservatory in Paris and the author of a number of church hymns. As a composer, he was the successor of a specifically Russian musical direction, the basis of which was laid by M. Glinka, and then the musicians of the Mighty Bunch continued. In these traditions, he created works for his Kedrov Quartet.

Welcome to our channel!
The Yale Russian Chorus is the oldest singing group in the New World dedicated to the music of Russia and nearby countries. The YRC was founded 1953 at the height of the Cold War. Founders: Denis Mickiewicz and George Litton.
Singers join while students at Yale, and many stay active throughout their lives. Every year or so we hold a major concert in which students and alumni sing together. Many alumni also join the students on tours to Russia.
Without a doubt, each of us had our own motivation to join the Russian choir. But we offer you a quote from one of the members of our choir, which unites us to some extent and explains a little the meaning of the choir in our lives: "Singing the music of the YRC in the style we sang it, was an antidote to the intellectualism that got many of us into Yale in the first place, but that could be so restrictive to the heart and spirit".
The singers are not Russians, or emigrants from Russia, but are students and former students who share a passion for the music and a belief in the power of music to build connections between people of different countries.

Христианская молитва «Отче наш» на церковнославянском языке в изложении Николая Кедрова-отца (старшего) была исполнена выпускниками Русского хора Йельского университета во время репетиции к предстоящему концерту в Епископальной церкви Святой Марии в Филадельфии (Пенсильвания, США). Дирижер: Дэниел Годфри. Съемка: Джо Финетти. Концерт состоялся 11 мая 2024 года в 19:30 по местному времени. Для участия в этом мероприятии в Филадельфию приехали студенты и выпускники хора разных эпох - 21 человек! За несколько дней репетиций Дэн Годфри (выпускник и дирижер хора с 1970 по 1972 год) мастерски превратил разномастных певцов в сплоченный коллектив, который звучал чисто, наполнено, эмоционально и вовлекающе. Программа концерта состояла из классического репертуара Русского хора Йельского университета и была достаточно короткой, чтобы певцы могли глубоко погрузиться и сосредоточиться на каждом произведении. Духовная музыка прозвучала особенно прекрасно - наиболее трогательным участники концерта сочли песнопение «Тебе поем» П. И. Чайковского. Каждая музыкальная композиция сопровождалась пояснениями Джейми Педерсена для нашей аудитории, которые были четкими, уместными и соответствующими текущим ситуациям в мире. Солисты были хороши, а хор сбалансирован в своих партиях. После концерта наш дирижер Дэн Годфри сказал, что остался на 75% доволен нашим пением… А мы считаем, что для такого перфекциониста как Дэн, это достаточно высокая оценка 😁 Концерт снимался документальной съемочной группой очень бережно, и это ничуть не мешало нашему выступлению. The liturgical music sounded especially beautiful-the concert participants found Tchaikovsky's "Tebe poyem" to be the most moving. Each piece of music was introduced by Jamie Pedersen's explanations to our audience, which were clear, appropriate and relevant to current world situations. The soloists were good and the Chorus balanced in parts. After the concert, our conductor Dan Godfrey said he was 75% pleased with our singing... And we think that's pretty high praise for such a perfectionist like Dan 😁 The concert was filmed by a documentary crew very carefully, and it didn't hinder our performance at all. When all the material will be professionally processed, we'll be able to share it on our KZread channel ❤️

Для меня более привычно каноническое звучание молитвы. Но мне понравились одухотворённое исполнение и разбивка на голоса. Это придаёт объёмность звука.
Поскольку вы поставили в хор одного участника с явными признаками какого-то заболевания, возможно психического, с черной повязкой на лице, то возможно, что следующие ваши выступления будут вообще под радужными флагами... Не удивлюсь.
