Oswestry Level Crossing
Saturday July 26 2014 at 6.25. Just south of Gobowen level crossing & station the line divides and a short section runs for 3 miles into Oswestry where there was a station. The line closed in 1971. In the 1980's this bypass road (the A5) was built and this level crossing was put in. Quite possibly it has never been used. It has been updated however as that style of "Stop when lights show" sign wasn't introduced until 1994 apparently. Every few years a scheme for reopening the line is proposed but the main problem is stopping the traffic at this level crossing.

There are two pacer trains at gobowen that are heading for the Cambrian railway museum in Oswestry which means that this level crossing will be used for the first time since the early 90s!

In Disappearing lines in the UK 4, there's footage of 2 class 20s hauling wagons over the crossing. Guessing it was before 1988 after traffic ceased due to the closure of Nantmawr quarry.

the crossing had been used a bit but then the line closed and bout 3 days after line closed a flock o bird landed on thebarriers and the crossing went up and down mental.

I believe the line used to serve a quarry (judging by satellite view and some footage I found)
