On the farm you have to turn on "supply for oxen" workers will bring hay to the farm so the oxen don't starve. Oxen can not be placed on a fallow field like regular cattle.... I went through about 24 oxen before I figured that out, being so simple I really kicked myself. Hope it helps Raptor! I'm definitely excited to see where the dev takes this game and I'm super excited it's getting exposure as well. Hopefully more people jumping on board will help the developer out quite a bit!!

I feel u bro, game looks interesting, but it is so buggy I don't know if I would pay for a game like this.

I don't know if somebody has mentioned it, but the Forestry has the button "Plant Trees/Saplings". Use it to regain trees nearer to the Forestry. Thanks for this series. I really enjoy watching it. Greetings from the south of Germany.

What a great game! Raptor - love watching you play, but I think you are missing just how well the game simulates human behavior, and that is hurting your gameplay. You are playing like Anno and I think the strategy needs to be reversed here because this is a more micro city building/trade simulator that simulates human nature to a greater degree than Anno does, so you have to take that into account; 1. Instead of building farms around houses like Anno, build houses around farms and the associated buildings like coops, mills, stys and so forth to form farm villages. Farm fields should be small until you get oxen; for every active field, you should have an inactive field of near-same size that you rotate between each year or every other year depending on the crop. You should never have any year where a certain crop wasn’t harvested. Having inactive fields also allows you to ramp up production in an emergency. If the crop has been harvested but not yet taken in, it won't waste, and the people will continue to take it in during winter, so put all hands to harvest, then let less people take it in during winter. If you have animals, they get their own dedicated wheat fields so you are never taking food from your people. Locating a warehouse near the cow pen or sty that only stores wheat/hay should force the workers to take it from there to feed the animals, and not the food grainaries. 2. Build houses around the fisheries to form fishing villages, and build them away from the farm villages. I am willing to bet that, because people will take the shortest route somewhere, that also means they will take the job closest to them, so building village clusters should reduce the time it takes get to and from work, and increase productivity just by virtue of saving time. 3. Between your farm village and fishing village, form a central "downtown" for the town hall, trading post, smithy, tannery, etc, so that all of your raw product are flowing to the center to be processed into goods like oil and shoes and it will take less time to get goods to the trading post. The downtown should have its own houses, where you charge higher rent than for houses near farms and fisheries, forcing low income families out to the farms and fisheries and causing rich settlers to come to downtown. If you don’t have enough people in the farms or fisheries, you can raise downtown rent to force people to move there. 4. Build 1 market for every 3 or 4 houses; put it right in front of the house so you have markets going down the boulevard between houses; put together an ABCD matrix so you know what each market you put down should sell, and there isn’t any overlap with nearby markets, and that should take care of the variety problem. 5. Expand your farm villages in one direction and your fisheries in another away from downtown; again, forcing labor to work at the place nearest them and cutting down on wasteful travel time. Once you’ve extended to the reaches of the map, you can start expanding each type inward, charging higher rent the closer you get to downtown. 6. Fence-in each cluster with only one or two openings, so that getting in and out of the village is inconvenient; this too will force labor to stick close to home, but it will also allow you to create villages that only produce certain crops in rotation, which will make it easier to increase production, decrease production, and manage production overall. 7. Within its fence, each village should have a grainerie that stores only what they produce (grain or fish). There should also be a grainerie next to the trading post where you stock excess quantities of your cash products so if you are surprised with a large order, you always have stock nearby that can be put in the trading post quickly. You might have the cowbarn blocked off and/or the pasture or fallow field are blocked off, and you have to assign them to the specific cow barn, also, oxen are just steers full grown, you can buy them, or buy cows and a bull and then castrate(cut) the bull calves and make them a steer/ox but keep at least 1 good bull to breed, watch the ages of all cattle, they tend to die easier after 9yrs on this game so send them to butcher before then so you don’t lose on them. And the reason you have to have 2 oxen to build a plow is because the carpenter uses them to build and move it. Also be sure to have a well close for winter to feed and also have a worker assigned to the barn too, might have been an issue as well.

Add more carts, maybe they will use them on the farm if you have more. It just may help the harvest move along quicker

The cows live in the barn during the winter. The other seasons they go out into the nearest fallow field if toggled, or their assigned field if untoggled or unavailable. They only need hay and water, but if you assign them as an Ox and send them to a farm on a plow, they're fed by the farm they're living at via the "Supply for Oxen" checkbox.

I was under the impression you need to buy *salt* from the other cities in order to produce *dried fish*. I'm pretty sure Raptor hasn't produced any *dried fish* yet, and I think that's why.

Sunflower Oil is used in cooking, lamps and for lubrication, it's a real quality of life boster

when wheat runs out the pigs die 1st because they eat more then the chickens will from starvation. Put wheat or other goods in market, then can X when needed back out for animals. Also having 1 worker all the time paces the work, and have laborers delivering for work and in heavy demands in places.

Something neat about the way things work in old economies: You have a Labor Economy. The minimal number of work-enhancing machines available means that the production of wealth is dependent upon the muscle power of animals and humans working the land. More people have to devote themselves to agriculture in a Labor Economy in order to sustain everybody and avoid starvation. My advice, Raptor? Hedge your bets and build more Farms! More Wheat and Potatoes for the Motherland! :u (Also Windmills, of course.)

Try building a new Farm and assign the lower farm fields to the new farm. The idea is that the farmers take a long time to come from the top farm to the lower fields and they are too few to harvest the crops from all the fields until winter.

Really enjoying the gameplay. Think one necessary strategy is to plant your town near a unique resource for the landmass to give you a useful early trade good.

The distance from the main farm to the fields is toooooo long. Split the fields in to two farms so they have at least some time to harvest. No need to have all the food fields in one farm. Maybe the walking distance to work will go down as your city is growing

I'm the guy that responded on Ep. 4 of this series, to the shape of a crop field. Explanation posted on that vid. Keep up the good work.

Don't set every field on your farms to the same crop rotation. For example, a farm has 4 fields. All growing grain, buckwheat and potatoes. Set field 1 to do first grain, then buckwheat, then potatoes and finally let it lie fallow. Field 2, first buckwheat, then potatoes, let it lie fallow and then grain etc. That way you grow a field of each crop every year 😉

You need 2 ox for one plow, you order the plow and make 2 ox from bulls in you shed :)

I love that the NPC cut their own path, however, I would try to ensure the paths make sense and not just randomly everywhere if possible.

The pigs are very expensive if you try to max out the number at 20. Each pig eats 0.2 wheat a month. So if you try and keep a max of 20 pigs. That is 48 wheat per year. (0.2 x 12 months x 20 pigs). The chickens take 4 wheat per year ( I think ).

Markets hold up to 1 unit of an item it has selected for sale. The green arrow is a universal symbol for whether a civilian is bringing an item to -- or taking from -- the selected building. Markets don't show demand. Fun lesson I learned after 3 years. If you run out of (iron -> spare parts -> working wagons) your town completely shuts down. No building will occur and nearly all resources are locked in their production buildings. I was very sad until I got enough money to buy iron. Found a sweet spot at 2.10 for both kinds of work, 0.70 for rent and 130% for goods for minimum net-positive for when you're stable.

I'm just now seeing this particular video so idk if you've resolved the issue in later videos. That being said, I beileve I saw an option where you could have the farmers tend to the ox where it said to focus on harvest. Also, when you had people coming in to your village to buy "sunflower oil" only one of the three sent grabbed oil becaue you had the other two selected for just Sunflower. Which you didn't have at the time. :)

You aren't getting off your harvest because you prioritized gathering supplies (or something), rather than cutting the crops down, and then taking them to the farm. If they are cut down, but not transported, you can transport them to the farm in winter. Secondly Someone commented that you can link your oxen to the farm, and they will bring food from the farm or something. Maybe that's why the starve. Also, there is an option to transfer them to pasture on the Ox barn screen, that would feed them through the summer anyways. Also, when you sold sunflower oil to the other city, you only sold 10 oil, and the other 40 was sunflowers, but you had no sunflowers stored in your trading post. I love this series, and would love to play the game, but my computer won't run it.

There are two checkboxes on the farm screen Prioritize gathering, and Supply for oxen You should have gathering off, and Oxen on, you have them opposite. Get all your crops, and you won't starve your oxen.

@6:31 I think you mean the bucket brigades? It is period correct. For the cow issue. In the slaughter house you have both pigs and cows checked. Maybe?

i think you should make your fields smaller thats away you can rotate the fields with out slowing down your productivity and give the fields time to become fertile again

Where you can't build the houses have you erected the back fence within the lot boundary?

you should have lowered rent to 30% or .30 and yes market price should be at 130% i see you got that part right.

There is a check box on the farms to supply food for oxen. They are starving at the farms I think.

Your cows cant get to the pasture because a fence is in the way. :)

They don’t use the pasture in winter - he set them as OX which means they move to the farm; he should have bought a bull and 2 cows and breed them.

Hey Raptor, Assign the farms fields to 2 or 3 farm buildings. Employment will increase and it wont take much time to harvest the crop. as the harvesters work on the fields closest to the furthest.

You need more hay dryers

You need more farm houses. Built close to the fields that they will work on. People gather a row, then walk all the back to the farm house to rest. Then gather another, then rest. Until the field is gathered. Then they move to the next closest and repeat. Then others come out and get a few bundles then bring them back to the farm house then rest. The distance is ruining your harvest season not the amount of people you are assigning. That and the field openings need to be facing the farm house. IF you build more farm houses then you need to assign the fields to them and a manager to handle the crop rotations. I say if because you still haven't toggled plant trees even though it's been mentioned several times. If you plan on using the cleared land then you should mention it in a future vid so people will stop mentioning it.

Keep granaries near markets, seems a must in all these types of games

If you have a lot of women unemployed, it might be a good idea to toggle jobs that allow women to work there to only women employees until they all have jobs so that the men can be used for jobs that only allow men to work there, so you dont have vacant positions in men jobs and unemployed women because men are in those jobs

It was the harvested plants that hadn't been collected yet.

Don't really understand why not build in a more organic way. Start with a circle of houses around the camp, keep building along the roads that lead to the various work spaces. Make streets between those, like the web of a spider. Use the former camp site for the city hall and the market, stuff like that. That's how settlements often started back then. Tanneries were banned out of the cities, because of the stench. Charcoal ovens were usually in the woods because of the smoke and ashes. Stuff like that. See it in a more historical concept, rather than a medieval SimCity.

I´m not expert but I think your supply lines are way too long from the fields. The workers spend too much time getting to and from them. But this is a fantastic game, more please.
