She has a video out talking about Osteostrong. She didn't care for the program saying she didn't see it as adequate for anybody with Osteoporosis/penia because of the time constraints of the program. She has other suggestions and works with many many ppl who suffer with these bone problems. Who better to know what to do than her?! She prefers isometric-type exercises for maintaining bone and said the whole body vibration plate Marodyne LiV is worth the hefty price tag, in case you might be interested. Sara saw an increase of 11% bone using it, she said in one of her videos.

Exercised daily but probably more sedentary than most due to chronic illness issues. Took vitamin D and tested levels via ND past decade. Ladies get your bones density test at 50. Don't wait until age 61 and well after menopause when it is very difficult to build bone. The fact they are not testing osteoporosis until age 65 is a travesty in women's health!

That's a blanket statement that does not ring true for everyone. Factors like where you live (Florida vs. say Chicago) - your weight, your skin tone, how your body absorbs Vitamin D, your age.....lots of factors to take into consideration - so check with your doctor! One person in my town can take 1000 daily, while another needs 2000 daily. Each person absorbs things differently. Get a blood test from your healthcare provider and check your D levels.

You would find that these exercises being cardio also help ease any depression if you may suffer from the that. Lifting weights is great for upper body, but bone health is determined in the lumbar spine, and hips. If you do leg presses, it could help.

Skipping should be a great exercise for bone remodelling. If you are doing weight training, that could be good too depending on how you are doing it. Would suggest getting to the doctor … bone loss is definitely happening just because of your age, but the pain could be arthritis or other problem. Doctor should help with the diagnosis. However, you might also be overdoing the exercise. Would suggest a qualified physical therapist to monitor your exercise program once you’ve seen a doctor to try to work out if there’s another problem.

And no, I was not on the Fad band wagon. It came as a complete shock. You can be on a huge dose like your doctor gave you for a short time, but you should be on a lower daily dose after that at around 1000IUs. What he said is that too much D can make your bones brittle. I will have to check out the research on that one.

A word of advice from a 67yo with Osteopenia. It's not a good idea to down a lot of Calcium like you're doing! It can build up in your arteries and give you heart problems or a stroke. You need to get the calcium through the food you eat. That's the safest way. There's different kinds of calcium. Calcium Carbonate is common & difficult to digest and absorb. Calcium Citrate is better but, again you need the proper foods--not heavy dose pills. Vitamin D, a fat soluble vitamin builds up in your body & too much can be a problem. You don't say how much you take. 2000IU/day should be enough. More than that a day you may be playing with fire. As far as exercise to ward off bone loss disease, you need weight-bearing exercise like walking up a hill, jogging, weight lifting. There are lots of exercises that don't build bone. Do some research. Lots of us as we get older are suffering from fractures, pain, and severe side effects in case you think taking osteoporosis drugs are helpful. They are a nightmare!! Take better care of yourself now. It pays off later. Believe me.

Our friendly neighborhood pharmacist seems to be a little bit behind the times. They are now recommending less calcium for women because that can drive heart attacks because the calcium does not get into the bone but stays in the blood. So for women they're now saying 500 mg a day in a capsule and then plus food of course. He also did not mention boron at all which surprised me. One of the things about K2 is that it does definitely help vitamin d get calcium into the bones but as he said you have to be careful depending on what drugs you're taking and what your personal genetics are.

Walking is a great exercise for cardio and mental health. It will not improve bone density because it does not cause sufficient “stress” to the bone to initiate osteoblast activity. Exercise must be strong weight bearing … running, jumping, resistance training or weight training. As these types of exercises are potentially dangerous for people with osteoporosis, you MUST be supervised by a qualified physical therapist so that you can progress safely. Pole walking does give some benefit for bone building especially in the arms.

  • @magpiegirl3783

    Жыл бұрын

@@powerinbeing4912 I’m not qualified to answer that. All I know is what I have read in research papers and seen on videos, lectures and interviews with qualified people - both medical and allied health. Rebuilding bones requires the osteoblasts to be activated - this can be done by taking the drugs, but there are side effects (some serious). Studies show that bone responds to stress placed on it. In the case of someone with weak bone, though, too much stress may cause a fracture so that is why you MUST get advice from a suitably trained physical therapist who understands how to build up towards increasing weight/resistance. Impact and forward flexion exercises or movements are potentially really dangerous - qualified people understand how to develop a safe program for people with osteoporosis. If you are interested, research is being done in AUstralia by Prof. Belinda Beck, who started the Bone Clinic (you can Google this) in Queensland, Australia following her LIFTMOR study which was based on clinical trials of specific challenging weight bearing exercises to improve bone density. I would recommend checking out that information. Exercise must challenge the bone to stimulate osteoblasts which remodel bone. Walking, swimming and cycling are good general exercise but don’t build bone. Running might be better BUT might be too dangerous for someone with weak bones. Dr Clinton RUbin has also been working on stimulation of cells to increase osteoblast activity and has developed Low Intensity VIbration Machine (not whole body vibration plates which are different) which has shown good outcomes for bone cell stimulation. You can google both these people to find out more. Weight work, some yoga and pilates exercises and body weight exercises such as squats, lunges, etc are ways to build bone density - but - the underlying cause of bone loss must be investigated by a doctor, and dietary insufficiencies addressed. As well, posture and balance exercises are needed to aid in fall prevention.
