When I steam puddings, I always do it in the slow cooker. It uses much less energy.

Castle puddings were steamed in individual tins. Jam was put in base of the tin and batter on top. The tins/puddings were steamed like a Christmas pudding😊 Hope that helps. Pierogis were cooked in the UK during the post war period due to some influence from Polish soldiers👍 Just take care of yourself and get well soon 💐🇦🇺

I love old books! 🧡 Just the sight of them, the scent of them . . . it sends me into another world of wondering and fantasy. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, and I know you'll continue to get better and be done with the crutches soon enough! Thanks for the video, Carolyn. ☺

Yes, my thoughts exactly about the books! I often wonder what tales those books could tell, what homes they have been in, who loved them, who discarded them… xxxx❤❤

Good to hear the knee is healing. The long walks will come back eventually but you may not be able to push yourself and you will have to take it slow and build up to longer walks. After my knee surgery it took a while before I could stay on my feet for long periods of time without the knee swelling up.

You are getting better! Yay! I struggle with some health issues myself, and I know how important it is to keep oneʻs chin up! Hard some days, but youʻre getting there! Truly you are amazing. Thx for sharing the lovely Kitchen Front recipe book with us. I agree, 4 hours of steaming a pudding isnʻt happening today! Love and very best wishes xx 💜

I love to browse cookbooks in bed at night like others read novels. Haha. That look like a beauty. Lots of interesting recipes that will be fun to find out more about and looks like a lot of practical advice too. I like that it said in the pudding to use ground rice but had a sub if unavailable . Substitutes are so handy to know for recipes. I'm sure that there's a good egg sub for pudding that you could use, different subs are good for different uses. I agree that no one has ti e or money to boil puddings for hours now. I'm sure there's microwave pudding recipes, but I'm sure I have seen raw potatoes in them. That would be frugal and yummy though. I'm so glad your getting a little better. I love those butterfly compression socks❤ Thank you for sharing that little gem of a book lovely ❤❤

You'll be back walking before you know it. Walking is an excellent, gentle exercise, especially when one has arthritis of weight bearing joints, to keep those joints as flexible & strong as possible for as long as possible. A supplement "Umary" 850 mg once a day has been life changing for me. Anti-inflammatory as well as pain relief for the 2 most obvious signs of arthritis. You've got this, Carolyn...take your time...prayers for your comfort are coming your way! ❤

Thanks for that info Rosie!!! Yes I can’t get back to strolling in the park again! At the moment my knee is very unstable, if I twist it it gives out with shooting pains but if I walk slowly and carefully there is only a mild discomfort.. I’m going to go up and down my street on my crutches in a couple of days, see how it holds up xxxx ❤

@1940sExperiment That is good to hear! Have you had an MRI done? Perhaps, in addition to the arthritis, you may have torn something in there (cartilage, ligament, etc), requiring arthroscopic treatment? Will continue prayers for you. ♥️

Hellos. Congratulations on loosing weight loss. Baby steps even on crutches, easy as you go. As far as the boiled pudding..my grandmother in law(Scotland) would use the pressure cooker or the crock slow cooker. Sorry I can't remember how long. By the way that potato is hardly noticed, more or less replaced flour. Be well.

I only have one authentic wartime cookbook, produced by the mayor of Burnley's fund. It's laid out exactly like the one you show and coconut is spelled cocoa nut throughout. Might walking in your local swimming pool help? The resistance of the water may help with your knee, especially if the water is warm. Just an idea for the future.
