OSPREY Talon 22 Day Pack REVIEW

Simpler is often better, and simply put the Osprey Talon 22 is one of the most versatile packs ever created. If you prefer going light and moving fast in the woods, mountains and around town, the Talon™ 22 is the pack for you. 22L of capacity is perfect for day hikes, urban commutes or a trip to the market. Ventilated and comfortable, the BioStretch harness and continuous wrap hipbelt combine to create an incredibly stable carry system that hugs your body so you can stay balanced on the trail, ridge or peak. We scratched our heads and updated our AirScape backpanel to use less material and glue while making it more breathable to keep you cool on hot days. When uphills turn technical, our Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole carry system keeps your hands free for upward movement. LidLock helmet carry achieves the same when you stop for a mid-commute coffee. Zippered hipbelts, side stretch mesh pockets, a harness pocket, and top-lid storage provide all the organization you need.

    Thank you for the review. How do you determine what is the right height (how high or low the backpack should sit on your back) when using the height adjustment you pointed out at 2:22?

  • @elsjm

    Hi Chris, in minute 5:27 you speak about little extra attachment on the "outside cargo compartment". In my opinion that is to store a (red) led (back) light when traveling / hiking / biking in the dark.

  • @basecampchris

    Hi Chris, Great videos. I am struggling choosing between the Talon 22 and Stratos 24. My main use will be for day hikes. I also have an Aethor 65. I know the 65 is pretty large, but could be used for an overnight hike if needed. My main concern is for a little bit more money, I'd get the rain cover and a little more storage and perhaps other uses. Wanted to get your thoughts, thanks!

  • @basecampchris

    @basecampchris

    Hi Jacob, I like how your thinking...yes the rain fly and the extra capacity really helps...they are both very good packs but the Stratos would work well for your day hikes in my opinion. Also the Aether is another good pack with the 65...I have an Atmos 65 ( love it! ) for my over-nighters, gives me plenty of room and very comfortable. I dayhike with the Manta 24...similar to the Stratos but has the outside stretch mesh cargo pocket! ( which I really like )

    Chris, I went to REI to inspect this bag. I was trying to figure out the compression strap to the LEFT side if your looking at the Logo. I noticed the strap is INSIDE the water pouch and decided it was a flaw and didn't purchase. In your video (5:00) you also noticed something wrong and could not get the strap AROUND the bottle. Any Thoughts?

    I know what you are talking about...I have a 33L Talon just checked it and it has the same layout...not sure why it is like that. It's possible that when a set of trekking poles or a tent poles is in it it is a more direct hold down versus a water bottle. When I have some time I should call Osprey and ask about it.

    It's by design. You have the option of the straps being inside the pocket, and out of the way, vs outside the pocket, to maybe strap other things besides a water bottle, e.g. camera tripod. One side has the straps inside, the other has straps outside to show how you would route the straps.

    Just tried using this pack with a 3L hydration pack -- huge PITA. The compression on the backside makes it difficult to get in and out, putting pressure on the pack. Pack started leaking.

  • @basecampchris

    @basecampchris

    3 жыл бұрын

    that is a PITA...if it were me I would try a 2.5 L make sure the compression straps are all the way open. Or return it to Osprey ( lifetime guarantee ) and get a Manta 24 with the dedicated hydration compartment...it's not just a sleeve but a good sized / zippered compartment...that is my go to pack in the size range.
