An Osprey rep told me the main bags are 40L. The extra 15L is in the daypack. They just market it as a 55.

I think the space is due to the laptop he has in the 40. It's tighter because of that. It would be interesting to see the same test without the laptop in there.

@@Comisionadowould you say that if he didn't have the laptop in the back, the differences in being able to pack at much would be small?

i want to buy fairview backpack, but idk which set to choose: the original 55L or 40L + backpack separetely? which main pack is better in your opinion? i'm affraid that if i will want travel with small bag only (40L) then in the version 55 the abscence of pockets outside will bother me. on the other hand i don;t travel with laptopt so i'm worried that laptop sleeve in 40L version is a waste of space. what would you reccomend since you have both? @@Comisionado

@@NataliaTatar-ry1xpI'd buy 40L (I have it) - extra pocket is useful, and laptop sleeve I'm using for documents, papers, printed tickets etc.

Thanks for this video, I was contemplating the 55 as I thought it was exact same but included the daypack and now I know there are differences. Also, never thought of the compression straps as an anti-theft feature but great point!

We have both the new 40L and 55L packs in my household. The core packs are the same volume - 40 L. The “55” comes from the 15 L daypack included in purchase. You can fit *slightly* more in the 55 because the 40 padded laptop compartment takes up space and reduces packing efficiency.

@@NataliaTatar-ry1xp sure you could put something else in there if folded super flat or put in a flat packing cube, but aside from quick access, I see it as a disadvantage. It’s a less efficient use of space compared to the main compartment. I’d buy the 40 and 15 separate. In fact, I did just that. I’d rather have the flexibility.

I have the 55 and find that it is more versatile than the 40 because of the additional 15 L daypack. 15 L daypack is where I put my valuables and it can be worn at the front for security reason. Wearing it this way will not overload my back. The main pack is straightly for storing stuff I do not need access to when I am on the move and the 15 L provides additional storage and it is easily accessible whenever you need to while you wearing it at the front. Also, the 40 L is always up in the overhead storage as a carryon when I am flying and the 15 L is stowed underneath the seat infront of me for ease of access. In may case I am okay with the look wearing the 2 packs separately (front and back). All in all I am very happy with the 55 and have used it on my trips to Europe and Asia.

55L ist basically just the 40L + daypack. You could easily attach any daypack to the 40L aswell to get the same results:)

Love my Fairview 40L, just took it on a four-day trip to Lisbon for my bday, coupled it with my Aer Day Sling 3 Max as a personal item, perfect combo. I almost took my Aer Travel Pack 3 Small instead but I’m not yet minimalist enough haha 😄

This is what I'm thinking about right now! I'm considering buying a 40L, but then to only have a sling as my personal page feels like such a waste, but I can't carry 2 rucksacks at once if I want to maximise space! Not sure what to do. Sometimes I can be minimal, but I also like to bring a spare pair of shoes and shirt if I'm going for out for a nice dinner... Any thoughts?

@@ohooper It was overkill for that particular weekend but I also have the 10L Pacsafe Vibe 325, a larger but still very manageable sling and extremely secure. That’s my pick as a personal item for longer trips, the extra volume comes in handy. PH reviewed it if you want to check it out.

Had the 40 with the daypack for a week in London. I would have prefered the 55 because the Laptop separation is really thick and I rarely take a full Laptop with me when travelling onebag... So it's just a useless flap on the inside.

Great review! But i dont think it's completely clear on the capacity difference -- The main packs of both models are the same capacity. The Farpoint 55 = main pack 40L + daypack 15L.

@@PackHacker2 It would be best if you pin an errata comment stating that the main packs are both 40L in capacity. It wasn't an issue of not being completely clear, in the video it is explicitly stated that the Farpoint 55L main pack has a higher capacity than the Farpoint 40L

I have the previous model of the Farpoint 40 and other than the placement of the laptop sleeve on it I feel it is superior to the new model. Osprey completely missed the mark on the new model. They moved the laptop sleeve to the back which is nice but they then completely took away a zippered front pocket that was basically the entire length of the bag and replaced it with that useless stuff-it pocket. All they needed to do to improve the Farpoint 40 was to move the laptop to the back. That's all that needed to be done. Other than that one thing the older model is superior.

The 40L in this video only has a single zipper for the laptop sleeve. Did you purchase this at a separate time than the other video you made, which has 2 zippers? Is that the only difference?

Osprey tends to make separate men's and women's versions of their packs. In this case, the FARview is designed with a harness system that better fits men. The FAIRview is aimed at women.
