Osight Red Dot Sight - A Lot Of Potential, But Not Quite There Yet

My limited, but thorough review of the new Osight red dot sight from Olight. This optic has a lot going for it, especially at its price point. However, I will also talk about what I believe to be design flaws. Overall, this is a good option for those who want the features this red dot comes with. However some of the features and tolerances of this optic need some adjustment, in my opinion. Hopefully this honest/unfiltered review will help you when trying to decide whether or not this optic is for you. I tried to be as fair, but critical of this optic as I could be and hope you appreciate my opinions in this video.

Probably worth noting, I did account for screw/mount errors by using and RMR to picatinny mount for my second "smack test" you can actually see it on the optic. A secure mount won't help with turrets that don't hold zero. I also verified the issue with everyone I know who had one as well, they can't handle being smack on the side at all. We had similar results in our pistol light test and were impressed with their newer ones, unfortunately this optic is doodoo at the moment...

I just went and hit it on my tree a bunch of times, on all sides of the optic. It is still perfectly in line with the sights, where it was before hitting. Sounds like either you got lemons or I got lucky 🤷‍♂️ Ive had multiple Chinese optics not hold zero before, but the second example did. Im gonna assume its a QC thing or the turret design isn’t consistent/reliable.

I have moved away from olight products in general, except for carry lights. I'm almost exclusively streamlight, tlr9 and tlr7 because of switches and I have one x300 turbo that I got in a trade. I would give it a try on my recover tactical glock on a Pic mount. Briefcase carry. USB c charging. Great vid as always

Interesting. This is gonna stir up folks who love olight equally as those who hate it. Ive watched a few vids here and there. Im neutral. I say run whatever works for the user and their budget allows. That being said… I’ll pass on this optic. Lol. Kick ass video!

Thanks! Yeah, I dont hate Olight, because a lot of the hate comes from marketing and trumped up stories. That said, a lot of their design choices really need someone in the “tactical” community to help with. Too many proprietary designs and features that look great on paper, but not in practice. Thanks for watching!

The optic looks insanely tall to me to be honest. Like maybe not delta point tall but still

I agree. Its about as tall as the larger enclosed red dots. Their rational was to help keep the dot in the window under recoil. Which it does, but good grip/recoil management will also solve that issue. Personally, I would rather them make the lens/optic shorter. There is no reason why they couldn’t, since it was a purposeful design choice.

In your experience what is the best budget/poverty tier micro dot or pistol dot that can be used for passive aiming. SIG Romeo 5 and the primary arms micro seem to not be the best from what I've seen and wanted to know what you would recommend

Passive aiming with night vision? On a pistol or rifle? Also, what is your price range of “poverty tier”? The answer may change based on your answer, but the Holosun 407 that PSA carriers would be the lowest price optic that I would trust my life to. Its a basic model without the solar panel. It comes in stock every now and then for under $200 if I remember correctly. palmettostatearmory.com/holosun-3moa-shake-awake-red-dot-pistol-sight-hs407a.html

@@poortac5568 use case would be a piggyback mount on top of a prism scope on a rifle. Poverty tier can be flexible I suppose, I'm trying to find something under $300 but if the quality simply isn't there at that bracket I'm willing to save. Just trying to figure out what I can get away with while still being serviceable. Maybe the wrong mindset. Also thank you for your videos, you've helped me out tremendously as I was trying to get things figured out without breaking the bank.

@@ozarkman291 no problem, thanks for the support 👍 Yeah, sometimes its better to “buy once, cry once”, but Im all for saving money where I can. If you are ok with an open emitter design and are trying to stay under $300, that dealer specific Holosun 407 model from Palmetto State Armory would be my choice. Its probably my favorite budget option, that really has no negatives, other than being an open emitter design. I dont see a practical use for the solar panel anyway, so this model saves $. An RMR type 2 would be more durable (if you dropped the rifle directly on the optic on concrete), but 3 times the price. You could try a Holosun EPS or 509, but both would most likely need an additional adapter plate. My choice personally, would be the 407. Hope that helps!

@@poortac5568 that honestly helps a lot, I'd never seen that exact holosun model, likely because it's dealer specific and I don't go to PSAs website. I'm ok with it being open emitter because one layer of cheap glass is likely better than two for passive. Thanks again for the advice.

yeah, but they still have some issues to resolve with this optic 😂 I think they tried to put too many features on it, instead of making sure the QC and features were properly tested. If they can fix these issues, this would be competitive on the budget market.
