A lot of people are saying that what made this scene so impactful was Ai's eyes, but I think we shouldn't disregard Takahashi Rie's voice. She did an absolutely amazing job voicing not just the character as a whole, but this scene in particular as well. Ai's final words are hauntingly beautiful.

I think it was more of the build up and most of the people going in blind thinking it was a fun idol anime. I think most manga readers (like myself) did not spoil it for others because we wanted them to feel the pain we did when reading that part.😢

Yes, I’m so devastated, shouldn’t watch anime at night time, now it’s 2am and I cannot sleep because how sad it was.😢

"So door chains are for times like this, huh? They never taught us that back at home" That part just got me thinking. She was still young and somewhat naive in those aspects. From the beginning we know the talent she has for anything related to the world of entertainment, like singing, dancing, acting, her charisma, etc. But perhaps the reason why she was so distracted, careless about certain things as Aqua emphasizes, is because there was never anyone to teach her about it. She ignored those everyday things because even wanting the best for her children and making an effort, her world revolved around the industry from a very young age, like 12 or 13. For me that is one of the saddest parts, because it's a silent reminder of how abandoned she was in her childhood.

The saddest part for me wasn’t the eyes, it was Ai’s realization that she was able to say “I love you”. She was shocked, sad, and disappointed in herself that the only time she was able to say it was in her final moments. She realized she really loved them. Which is the most devastating thing.

2:43 the part where she's trying so hard to make sure she says everything she could before it's too late. When she said those lines "Umm...what else?" breaks my heart as well as hearing her breaking voice as she speaks. Until she finally said the lines "Ruby....Aqua.....I love you" is fucking depressing 😭

I couldn't express it by words, even though this is a fiction. I would never be able to handle it all by myself, but the first episode literally made everyone crushed to their hearts, I'm sure of it. I will forever cherish every moments of her. A straightforward girl who just wanted to feel love, happiness, joy, honest feelings of oneself. Rest well, and I hope you find your true peace up in the afterlife.

That motif at 2:44 is played 6(?) times throughout the first episode, all in situations where Ai is the primary focus character and she’s being truthful-not telling lies, like when she’s talking about how she can’t love, or how she wants to make a lot of money so she can send Aqua and Ruby to school. As a manga reader, as soon as I realized this motif was gonna repeat, I fuckin KNEW they were gonna play it when she died and by god did they play it. i cried so hard. thank you for the lovely arrangement.

THE BEST PART IMO 3:36 starts to get into it 3:47 the build up 3:50 that “realization” when ai said it😭😢 4:02 that sad feel knowing that ai is just trying her best to be a mother…

This episode destroyed my mind. It's really heartbreaking watching Ai utter her final words to her children.

Takahashi Rie is such an amazing voice actor.

I think the most haunting part of this scene was the eyes. They were literally perfectly drawn, framed, and the absolute despair in all ruby's, aqua's and ai's was perfect. And the fading of them was absolutely devastating. 100 percent was much better than in the manga.

アニメとかそんなみない勢だけどこんな完成度高いアニメそうそうない。

Havent cried so much since watching anime for a long time... but this one is an absolutely stellar one.. Doga Kobo studio really nailed the 1st ep final scene perfectly with the colours and fluid animation... and to top it off with Rie's amazing voice acting 💔

Never cryed so hard in my entire life, that so beautiful yet so sad🥺😥😭

At least, she has experienced something that beyond her expectation. Physsically able to pregnant was a gift that many consider as meh. I tell you is not. In the end to said with the bottom of her geart "I love you" was her last moment. The moment of truth. No lies. And finally rest in happiness❤❤ R.I.P Hoshino Ai. You're the best young mom in anime❤❤❤❤

I normally find anime by seeing spoilers and thinking "oh, I'll give this one a shot". Oshi no Ko isn't even something I usually watch, but it was offhandedly mentioned a couple of times in videos so I gave it a watch. Was COMPLETELY blindsided by Ai's death, I've rewatched that scene so many times and I tear up every time. I think what gets me is that all her life, Ai hadn't known love and lived a lie, hoping that one day it would become true. All she wanted was to love and be loved, so she kept her twins and gave birth to them in the hope that she could feel love. But she was too scared to say she loved them because she didn't know what she would do if that, too, was a lie. Then in her final moments, she realizes that she does feel love towards her kids, and it just broke me. SO damn good.

When Ai states about the door chain and how thay didn't teach her anything like that in the childrens home it really shows how abandoned she was as a kid. When her eyes faded from their bright, radiance in that gut wrenching moment you can see how much she loves her kids and how she doesn't want ro abandon them. Remember Ai didn't have a family so watching her death unfold right as she was starting to understand the meaning of the word "love" made this scene 10x harder to watch. Ai wanted to make her kids happy after hearing their interest in their father. She Ai showed grace, patience, and love to the man who took her away from her kids and her young life in which she had so much more to live for. Watching her children grow up, getting married, and getting to bask in the glory of life, without truly knowing what love is, she forgave that man and even still loved him. When she told her only son "I'm sorry but I think this is it for me " the tears really started to flow. A bright, outgoing, and energetic girl was taken from her life because of one's selfishness, thinking that she belonged to him. The man, accusing that she doesn't even remember him. She remembers his name, where she saw him, and even a gift that she displays in her home, and yet it wasn't good enough. It's horrifying that in her final moments she truly found what love is, and never got to really treasure it when she finally found it. The moment when she was stabbed and her life flashed before her eyes she only recollected the times with her kids; that is when her life really started. Her last words still haunt me as if I were her child in that moment, in that dread. She never got to express her feelings towards her kids because even she didnt know what it was and yet she had it all along. She was accused of being a slut, a filthy person and a traitor. All she wanted was something to love... Please remember friends that no matter what we must keep love in our hearts even if we don't understand it.

This must be one of the best OSTs I have ever heard. Well recreated, heats of to you, this goes on my depressed playlist.

That was an actual good and sad story, more for just a first episode

Bro everything came together to create a masterpiece premiere. The Music and sound design, the VA, the animation and art quality, and direction they took by giving the first episode enough time to get you invested and then punch you in the gut. There is not a single fault that I can make with the first episode. I’ve cried when I first read it in the manga and I’ve cried every time I’ve properly seen the scene in the anime. To not only make me cry when I knew what was coming, but more than once, I believe makes it a masterpiece. I love this series ❤

The thought of being in your mother's chest hugging you, bathed in her blood while moments pass as she is losing her life, is very traumatizing. Even as an adult, I'm sure no one would be able to handle such a thing happening in front of you. I think this hit Aqua so hard as a hardcore fan and as AI's own child who witnessed everything that had happened , I can understand his edginess in the anime and in the manga. It's a very depressing moment that it actually made me cry. It hit harder than in manga with the details and voicing of characters present in that moment. Kudos to the voice actors, especially Takahashi Rie's voice acting here. Such a beautiful yet traumatizing scene.

This ost gonna hit as hard as scum's wish and I'm here for it. (Yes I know the artist is the mangaka of scum's wish)

Much love goes out to the creators of this series and whatever tough times Akasaka must've been going through to have been able to think of this. You will forever be immortalized as the only piece of media to make me cry.

Honestly this is so depressing but also speaks to the problem of parasocial relationships built on the internet with celebrities and fans. The saddest part is that nothing from the episode, except the reincarnation, is fiction. Any of this could have happened and probably did in the real world. 😞

Unfortunately, in life, such cases also surround us.

I've been reading Oshi no Ko since around mid-late May of 2021. It's a series I absolutely adore, and was incredibly happy to see get announced for an adaptation (yet alone the 1st episode be a movie) It dropped today, and I knew everything that was to happen but man, they fucking sold it with Ai's death and made me cry my fucking eyes out over it for the 1st time. I didn't ever cry over her death but the music and voice acting really sold it here.

Me too and I have this scene on loop in my brain, I haven’t slept in 1 and a half weeks, I would have never thought a phrase that meant something joyful could cause me so much pain, I’ve been crying the life out of me since my heart and soul left me after watching the 1st ep 💔😭😭😭😭

"Ruby. Aqua. I love you."

Just watching this scene made me feel a way I never felt before. Just hearing the soundtrack and seeing Ai die was truly something else. Ai saying "I love you" to Aqua and Ruby with such powerful emotion made me cry. This episode presented how Ai was more careless than any other person, and I'm pretty sure the reason to this, is because of no one being able to look after her properly at a young age, and I think the authors showed this amazingly in the episode from start to finish when she died. Looking back after re-watching Oshi No Ko with my friends and hearing their emotions in the same moment, they felt the same. They felt sadness and madness. And I'm almost certain that most people that watched this episode felt the same. I have no regrets watching this masterpiece.

So if you guys want to know the real reason why she was killed off originally she was planned to well be alive she was originally planned to be part of their life because the story was going to be slightly different. I say slightly but I mean take it as you will here so the story was supposed to go that Ai was going to help Aqua and Ruby rise up through the ranks basically of the entertainment district instead of it being a story about finding their dad I'm not saying that wouldn't have been in it but yeah. So the reason they killed her off is because they felt if she was alive one the story is not going to be nearly as impactful obviously and two she would have took everyone's eyes away from the main protagonist who are Aqua and Ruby because I believe now I don't know this for sure I'm just taking a guess on this one that Ai wasn't going to be like a main main character she would like I said was going to be there to just help them and you know guide them through the entertainment world. I do think the story's better that she died but I'm pissed that she did because I went into it blind and I mean come on it's bs but it's a great show and I'm hyped for season 2.

I'm here because of the special episode that I watched today that reminded me that beautiful music and how sad was the scene it was accompanying. And so long too. What really struck me was the length of that scene, as if they wouldn’t let us go crying but wanted to continue inflicting emotional damage on us over and over again. Rie Takahashi';s voice and singing roles always shines in her characters like Aiu Hoshino (miss her...out of all her roles she still give her role despite what her character is fated unto) Edit: thanks for the likes I'll update-since ep.2 I already watch it still hurts how it affects the twins in the aftermath both manga.,.and now deeper in anime this song will now remind me how Ai finally says "Aishiteru" her last words saying I love you in jaapnese strongly as someone learning japanese alot and culture wise (xcuz weeb) its just..this series is so bittersweet yet so good
