Been 1 and half years since Osgood started for me and i'm 20 now. I fear its gonna hang around forever. What baffles me more is that doctor's havent been able to find a cure for something like this which is actually painful and VERY limiting. Might turn towards surgery soon. Hope that solves it.

"Wait until you're fully grown to get the surgery" is the advice I've seen after doing my own research for the same issue (I'm 27, had it since I was 14). You don't want to risk surgery while your knee muscles/tendons are still filling out as that might cause those muscles to be slightly out of place. It's usually not recommended until you're 23+ years old. Honestly, I started running in Vibrams in the grass and it helped my knees IMMENSELY! I will still be getting the surgery.

ooo finally after many years, I understood what that bump under my left knee was. I took an x-ray diagramm when I was 16 and it shows there are some small pieces of bone in the area of the bump. I'm 20 now. Luckily for me I feel no pain, except when I put pressure over it, ie. kneeling down. I can still run and just tried out bouldering for the very first time yesterday. Thank God

I've never known what this was till now. I considered it "jumpers knee" as I play basketball. Ive actually used the band that he used and it does work while playing. Sometimes I did have to ice my knees, but that was only when I stopped playing for months on end and got back in. My advice, use products as this gentleman says and mainly if your going to be active then stay active. I'm moving more now in my early 40s than ever and haven't had any pain at all.

It’s been on and off in both knees but it never seems to really go away. I have had doctors tell me that it will hurt but exercising even when it hurts cannot make it worse. Basically, my knee will always hurt, and how much exercise and sports I play just depends on how much pain I’m willing to push through.

I'm 29 years old and just developed it within the last few months. After bartending for 3 years. I would always be placed on the drink well which means im responsible for making drinks for the entire restaurant and in order to reach the bar top from behind the well, I had to use my tibial tuberosity (top of shin bone right below knee cap) in order to brace myself to keep from slipping on the wet rubber floor mats. So basically after 3 years of putting my full body weight on my tibial tuberocity and having it act as the fulcrum to my weight distribution, it must have slowly developed into this disease. The stress put on that area probably made numerous tiny tears in the tendon attachment areas and finally became inflamed/painfully enough thag you can notice 2 big bumps that are tell tale Osgood Schlatters

I’ve had this on my right knee since I was about 12 (I’m almost 17). I used to do triathlon at the time it started and it caused me a lot of pain. For a while it hurt even when just sitting down and standing up. I did try to rest a bit but I didn’t really know what it was so I kinda just continued. The pain eventually went away after a few months but the bump stayed. Now I’ve been dancing for a few years and I’ve noticed how my knee is slightly hindering my improvement since I can’t really kneel down and stand up quickly without it hurting, and it’s even worse when I actually hit the bump. A few months ago I started doing contemporary dancing and I had to stop this month because my knee has worsened a lot, which is a shame because I really love dancing and wanted to try a new style, so I’ve just gone back to my regular clases (mainly comercial, hip hop etc. where I don’t have to do much floor work). I’m kinda sad knowing that I can’t improve as much as I would like to because I considered dancing professionally in the future but I guess that won’t work out for me. I will just keep it as my hobby I guess lol

My pain was INTENSE pain that felt like someone taking a rolling pin and crushing my leg bones in both my legs. A rolling, crushing, pain. My knees really didnt have pain. This went on for years even until my early 20's. Could I have been misdiagnosed, as pain with Osgood Schlatter seems to just present in the knee itself?

Some of those quad stretches I've heard can exacerbate the problem. After all, OS starts because the muscles connected to the patellar tendon are pulling on the tibia. Some of those stretches will just have you do the exact same thing. I believe there are videos out there if you search for them that show ways to loosen up the quad without adding too much stretch on the area of discomfort. I know I wish I stretched my incredibly tight hamstrings and quads 20 years ago. For Crows Country and Track we'd just do a quick warm up and the run our workouts. I can't believe I'd put in 60 or so miles in a week without stretching! I guess that explains why I have a massive fused ossicle at my tibia tuberosity and several smaller ones imbedded in the patellar tendon which makes it feel like a taut wire. Luckily in my right knee it is very mild. A physical therapist friend of mine said it had a lot to do with my stride etc, which makes sense given the repetitive nature of distance running. Now I dream of having that giant ossified lump taken off and the smaller pieces removed from my tendon. We all have our hopes and dreams!

@@natoe9461 Tips? I'm no physical therapist but what I've been told by a friend who is one is to make sure the hamstring and quads are stretches and flexible. That'll go a long way in helping you since you're young and your bones have not yet fully fused. There are videos that online that show how to stretch the quads and hammies using a roller so you don't make it worse. And this can help a lot especially if you're still growing. You're 14 now right? So you have a plenty of years to try to get rid of it before it fuses permanently. Also, you could talk with your pediatric doctor or a physical therapist to find out solutions. I wish you luck with your knee and your fútbol! Before track, cross country and wrestling (all which I did in high school) I played soccer from when I was 5 to when I got to high school. I played mid field mostly, though I sometimes played up front. What position do you play? Just curious!

I'm 58 and recently retired. I've had the bumps on my knees since I was a kid, but they didn't bother me except when I accidentally hit it them on something. Now that I've been golfing and exercising more, my OS has severely weakened my right knee making it difficult to turn into my right side. I've been resting, icing, exercising, and stretching the past month. It's starting to feel better. We'll see if I can get back to golfing. Lifetime problem for me. Hope it's not for you.

Greetings to a fellow member of the Order of the Bumpy Knee! I'm 38 and in the same position; many many more years with the giant "elbow-like" bump beneath my left knee. My right OS bump isn't nearly as bad. I've wanted to get it chiseled or sawed out in an operation but I can't afford it with my health insurance. I've started to have tendonitis in my left knee because of the stress put on my patellar tendon because of the OS. I'm just hoping it doesn't get progressively worse as I get older to the point where it really hinders me doing the activities I like to do.

I tried several remedies but none really helped. I just kept enduring the pain for about 2-3 years, the pain eventually subsided and the lump disappeared over the years. all in all, it was a horrible experience.

I’m 24 and it’s been roughly 10 years with it on both knees. When I was younger i got laughed at for “having two knees”.. first time noticing it and told my mom she said it’ll go down because I played soccer a lot as a kid and she thought it was a small bump nothing crazy. As months go by it’ll hurt a little bit but nothing crazy. Now it’s been years and i regret not going to get it removed because when working I can’t kneel without a knee pad. If I ever make the mistake of doing so it hurts more than anything.. now I’m scared of even thinking about surgery - if I do surgery, will it stop me from walking? If no - will I perform the same after?

I’m ordering arched insoles to help with the flat feet so is there anything else I can do to prevent piercing pain on the back of heel pain (or where the AT meets the back of heel bone to be precise)? I live an active lifestyle I go to the gym (3-5 days/week), play soccer 2-3 days/week, etc and I think it’d be great to do some rehab work during the lockdown whilst I’m WFH. Thanks heaps Paul. Big ups from Australia. 👍🏽 Ps I’ve been wearing the knee brace incorrectly this whole time! i.e. on the actual bump instead of in between the knee cap and TT.

Almost 30, and starting to think this is what I most likely have🥲 i'm not even a very active person, so ever since I can remember i've always had this(maybe even since birth)...likely caused by a serious car accident that my mom had, could that be possible? To have had it because of past unwanted trauma caused to me before even being born? Very true about the kneeling, cuz when going to church I can barely last a short time without having pain when kneeling and end up having to stand up because of the pain...
