Osgir, the Reconstructor is a new Boros (Red, White) Commander, joining the Magic: the Gathering multiverse, from MTG's newest set, Strixhaven and Commander 2021. In this video of Jake and Joel are Magic, Joel offers 3 different strategies (for every player) for building Osgir, each doing its best to utilize this new Commander to the best of its abilities! Osgir has a unique ability that will allow us to exile artifacts from our graveyard and create copies of whatever is exiled. Let's look at the strong, fun and mean ways to build Osgir, the Reconstructor: In the strong category, we start things off Scrapyard strategy--we will have artifacts that when sacrificed do things, followed by fun: Artifacts that cantrip so we can draw cards, and finally, the mean way will focus pillow fort. What are the best ways to build Osgir, the Reconstructor and get the most out of this new Boros General from Commander 2021? Is Osgir worth building in EDH and what is the best deck for him? About the Three-Ways Series:
Some people like their chicken wings sweet while others prefer them scorching hot; either way, you are eating chicken. Magic the Gathering is a game with many different rules and building a Commander deck that works takes some time and strategy. Understanding the commander of your deck will help inform a deck-building plan that works for you. In this series, Joel discusses commander strategies for every player. This broad-strokes approach will give you a basic breakdown of the commander and three different ways you can build your deck to work with its abilities, without providing a full deck-tech.
What is Commander:
Commander, officially recognized on June 17, 2011, originated from a format called EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander-- there can only be one). The first time we played EDH was around 2009. It is easily the best way to play Magic: The Gathering. The idea was to have a casual format with 100 cards and only a single copy of any one card, with a General: a singular Legendary Creature card in its own zone that can be cast any time, once you have the mana for it. If your general is removed, it goes up by a casting cost of 2 for each time it is removed. Once WOTC officially recognized the format and printed the first Commander product, your General was instead called your Commander and instead of the format being called EDH, it instead became recognized as Commander. If you ever hear anyone say EDH, they are talking about Commander. Make sure to know the cards that are banned in the format before building your deck (listed below).

Great video and THANK YOU for explaining the word, "cantrip". When I started playing again a few years back everyone was using the word and I was clueless what it meant. Always enjoy the nod to teaching key words in the game. This commander seems really good. Boros is getting some heat in this set.

This term originates from D&D, being a spell that's of low level but can always be cast for free.

Joel just got me MORE excited for this commander lol. Looks like I'll be getting the precon
Joel I'd also bring in treasure for sac fodder to help ur commander close out games. Maybe even a few cards that benefit from artifacts entering or leaving the battlefield. And as a side finisher I'd throw in Hellkite Tyrant since hitting 20 artifacts in this deck will be super easy.

"Port-kull-iss." Love your channel, gents. I tend to play less popular commanders (Reki, Bell Borca, Ephara), but I can't not build Osgir.
Rings of Brighthearth, Illusionist's Bracers, and Battlemage's Bracers are absolute insanity in this deck. Doubling Osgir's activated ability is nuts

I made an Eggs osgir deck and it turned out to be pretty strong with Pia's Revolution and making them almost free to cast
Oh man I can't wait to build around Osgir, a proper trashcan deck for a proper grouch. Gotta include both platinums in each build. My group is exile heavy, so I'm adding in sac outlets like Claws of Gix. Foundry Inspector, Cloud Key, Shimmer Myr... since I'm almost certainly running an Unwinding Clock, I was also thinking about Liquimetal and Ashnod's Transmogrant but then remembered he only activates as a sorcery. Can't find a way around that, at least not yet in MtG. They'll make that mistake some day.
Does it make sense to add some cards from each type of deck?
Wurmcoil engine, phyrexian triniform, triplicate titan. With terror of the peaks on board. With multiple copy ways. Anointed procession, rings of brighthearth, Battlemage bracers,lithoform engine.
Throwing in some discarding cards like cathartic reunion and thrill of possibility goes without saying but adding some first or double strikers could really spice things up with those constant instant speed buffs from the one and only commander

@@olafthemoose9413 actually yes, didn't think of that but the fact that its an artifact in addition to near perfect synergy just seals the deal
I don't think a Solemn will ever be strong (again). It having the same cmc as your commander doesn't help. I suggest Dockside Extortionist, Academy Manufacturer, Reckless Fireweaver, Oswald, Panharmonicon, Skull clamp and Greaves as pretty strong. Just updated my deck, can't wait to try it out.

Dockside is only really good if your opponents are playing artifacts or enchantments most of my friends now play land based ramp or creature mana dorks because I run dockside a lot so solemn with panharmonicon and anointed procession is my mana ramp lol
That second set of facial contortions was leaning to the more creepy/sexy side of things than fun lol
Swiftblade Vindicator is a great, cheap target for that +2/+0

Its funny you.mentioned the pronunciation because the "Oscar" thing has been bugging me 😂😂 I pronounced it like "oz-gear" when I first saw it. Nonetheless, this guy and the Lore hold elder dragon are TWO boros, or excuse me LOREHOLD decks I'm gonna make in one set. Which surprises me as I still.don't have a single boros deck out of my like 55 decks now. I also don't have any azorious, orzhov or selesnya decks 🤔 Sweet deck tech though. This guy is.gonna be awesome!

i recently bought some cards for Osgir. 50 bucks for 20 or so high synergy cards. I mostly took the reasonable cards from the MTGoldfish upgrade guide. Goblin engineer/welder, 6 mana ugin, mystic forge, and a couple of infinite combos to close the game out. Oswald Fiddlebender aka the artifact pod. Crackdown Construct to combo off with lightning greaves and kill someone out of nowhere. I feel like I'm going to be hated by my playgroup.
Hi Jake and Joel could you guys please do a 3 ways to play video on The commanders Jirina Kudro & Jarad Golgari lich lord. Jirina seems pretty plain at first glance but I know you’ve said in past comments that cards you expect to be boring actually surprise you a lot of times, so I’m hoping you could see something in her I missed.

I think it's viable but worse than the generic grindy value plan.
What about Tangle Wire? Keep tapped a lot, then bring back two? But way more brutal is the smokestack way. Now think two of them

Lollll i got this play with the precon last night. Then I played a thing that copied a sol ring, sacrificed that, got it back and had 4 sol rings. I want that card that doubles tokens so I can get like 8 sol rings 😂😂😂
