Lyrics
They say Paris is dead
Lived through London and drank through Memphis
The things you live by were once just a guess
And there ain’t no glory in the west
No there ain’t no glory in the west
Hard to think on your feet
Tired of begging them just to compete
Shoot to win can feel so bittersweet
But you take what you can get
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
Blazin’ on ahead - burning through it
Coming down the bend - nowhere left to go, goin’s all we know
Ridin’ past the best - and there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
There ain’t no glory in the west
What’s a boy to do?
Hit the road with a dollar or two
Haunted by what he knows he can’t do
Gets it off his chest
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
Burnin’ on ahead - blazing through it
Running blind again - nowhere left to go, goin’s all we know
Ridin’ past the best - and there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
There ain’t no glory in the west
Count your blessings they’ll say
And after each midnight begins a new day
But don’t place your bets on a word that they say
They’ll put your life to rest
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
No there ain’t no glory in the west
There ain’t no glory in the west

EXACTLY! It's so strong on the Johnny Cash. I've always said his music was a mixture of Johnny Cash and some electronica. It's a gorgeous mixture that I can get behind.
I've been trying to figure out what makes Orville's music so special, and I think it's because every song of his sounds like a classic. They're songs I've somehow known and loved before, songs that will be remembered decades from now, even when I'm hearing them for the first time. I've never experienced this with any other artist.

This reminds me of my favorite Chekhov short story. An old cabbie's son died and he tries to talk about it with his passengers and passers-by, but no one listens. Finally he breaks down and tells everything to his horse. Like Orville here, riding through the wilderness, talking and singing to his horse because there's no one else.

I really believe these are some of the best lyrics Orville's ever written. And such a vulnerable vocal performance... it reminds me of Johnny Cash's last days, but at the same time is distinctly Orville. There is such a profound loneliness to this song. It's absolutely incredible.

Saw Mr Peck tonite at Massey Hall in Toronto, there was plenty of glory in Massey Hall tonite ....
I won't claim to interpret it truthfully, but only what it made me feel. It was about choosing a path for yourself, however lonely may it be, a path that will one day end, and there might not even be glory await at the end, but despite all this, this is the path you choose, and for a moments of riding along this path, you are happy, and that's all that matters. I'm a person who cry very easily but this made me feel such beautiful thing that I can not cry at that. It is a good feeling, it is comforting, somehow. !! i live in a country in Asia where a great portion of our economy relies on labor export to the west (especially USA). the first time i heard this song it struck me so personally bc incidental to that is an idealization of the american dream. "there's no glory in the west" mirrors the disillusionment in realizing that it is not what it's cracked up to be. at the end of the day, ur working a low-income job with zero regard for ur health, surrounded by people who view u as the "other" and at times may even be hostile, and so far away from home and the ppl u love.

Oh. You sing country AND western music both? ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎 Amazing. This song exemplifies exactly what’s wrong with entertainment from Hollyweird to Nashvegas: we have to dig deep to find the real talent out here. If music and movies were “fair” this song would win Best Original Song at the Oscars, Mr. Peck’s arms would be overloaded with awards at the next CMA’s, and if I wanted to see him perform live I wouldn’t have to do a 5 day cruise outta Miami-I can’t cruise anymore-too old. Anyway…you’re amazing, #OrvillePeck I can’t wait for my husband to come home from work so I can let him listen to you. He’s gonna love your music, too. We will celebrate Valoween 2024 kitchen dancing to your music! Thank you.
I first heard this 2 weeks ago and can't get it out of my head. I've seen people comment on the different ways they interpret the meaning of the song, and I think they are all correct. What a piece of art. Holy smokes.
Thank you Orville for showing love and kindness. Love.🙏♥️
I love how he's talking to the horse like it's straight out of the fourth part of Gulliver's Travels. Love the song!
I think this is my fave song of Orville's so far. Love the rhythm kept by the acoustic guitar.
LORDY he is one purdy man....

The flavor is immaculate
Is Orville incapable of releasing a bad track? Yes, yes he is. His music is ALWAYS perfect! Love this!!!!!!
What a song, what an album, what an artist! Damnnnn....
O MOI BOG! he is so handsome, beautiful and gallant, his voice is honey to my ears
This so perfectly captures the essence of media about the end of cowboys and the wild west era as time moved on and technology progressed until they could no longer live the glory days life style that cowboys came to represent. From the long journey on horse to coming home to an empty farm house, where the family you once knew has moved on to the big city and left that life behind. Those days may be in the pass but music like this keeps the essence of the wild west alive
I like when he waves at the horse :)
Still my favourite song of yours Orville, Let Me Drown close 2nd. Perfect echo of melancholy & contempt. So beautiful ❤
Very interesting video for a haunting song--Peck's lone cowboy becomes the spectral star in his own ghost story.
You remind and comfort me like Elvis. Hats down, to the amazing scenery as well. Into the Wild is what immediately came to my mind.
This. Is. GORGEOUS. Beautiful cinematography. And quickly becoming my new favorite Orville song. It sounds SO MUCH like Johnny Cash - LOVE it!
This is a postcard from a country called Pain. He writes to say: “wish you were here”. It’s harsh there, you can even hear the blackheart wind, but the scenery is lush and beautiful, despite all the thorns. He writes to us all, us here in the country called The Wasteland.
Just saw this in concert with my big sis and my big bro and it was the only song I knew but damnit I knew every word cause this song In particular means alot to me
I loved all songs you've put out so far, but this somehow hit a very soft spot. Nothing gets me more than "nowhere left to go - going's all we know". Absolutely beautiful. I can only hope for a Europe - tour to be able to see you live.
This sounds like it's begging to be in a Cohen brothers movie
