Tiny correction on the stepper motors: They are not closed loop, they are just standard stepper motors, but the stepper drivers they use (trinamic? maybe) have a feature that measures the current consumption of the motor. if that goes up, it means that the motor's movement is impaired in some way, and this can be reacted to in firmware. It's the same mechanism that the Prusa MK3 uses to home and do crash detection. This is different from closed loop steppers, which have an encoder built in that counts steps and delivers this step information back to the driver/controler, which enables lost-step detection and exact position feedback. That is something that the Orthur setup can't do (and in my opinion would be overkill for a laser engraver anyway)

Hi Nik, thankyou very much for the in depth correction, i learnt something new today, I never knew the trinamic drivers had that feature, so its kind of like a pseudo closed loop stepper.

¿¿ Thank you for both videos on OLM3. I have ungraded with the extension for a bigger work area. You've mentioned in this video to upgrade the dragchain soon for the air assist hose. Im keen on learning what you did in that department. Have you done anything, yet??

unfortunately, I sold the LM3 because I switched to enclosed machines in 2024. I much prefer the easy of use with an enclosed machine.

I plan to make some laser cut vinyl sleeves and my cnc bed is too small for that. Plus id rather have a dedicated machine for laser, less faffing around swapping things over

They sent me both the 10w and 20w. I keep having issues with the 10w getting error9 gcode locked out during alarm or job state. Randomly half way through projects completely ruining them. Then the 20w broke before I could even film enough content for a video. The x axis randomly wouldn't home to the left all the way. When they worked they were great but they've cost me thousands in ruined orders and my time. I hate these lasers. Have you had any issues with yours?

No, you would want IR laser for that. Something like the xtool F1 (check out my review of it on my channel) or a fiber laser

Yes, just 3mm acrylic (black), you cant do clear. It cuts ok but produces quite a lot of smoke and smells much worse than wood so I won't be doing much plastic cutting on this thing.

I bought an ORTUR Master 3 LE in January, and it still does not work. I have sent loads of emails, videos, and photos, so they sent me a secondhand laser, which does not work either. Today 31/05/2023 and I have been ripped off by ORTUR.

Well-Known Issues with Ortur Lasermaster 3: A Comprehensive Review Issue 1: Ortur LM-3 Not Powering On One of the most prevalent problems encountered by users of the Ortur Laser Master 3 is its failure to power on. This issue can stem from various factors, including a faulty power adapter, blown fuse, loose connections, malfunctioning laser module, or motherboard glitches. Notably, the Ortur LM-3 has faced criticism for having an underpowered "power brick." Despite seeking assistance for this issue, my attempts were met with silence. Subsequently, I discovered a suitable replacement on Amazon. Issue 2: Inadequate Laser Engraving When laser engravings fail to meet expectations, several causes might be at play. These include improper focus, uneven engraving area, or unsuitable materials for engraving. Issue 3: Mid-Operation Halts Frequent occurrences of the machine halting during operations can be attributed to loose connections, faulty motors, or software/firmware glitches. This issue has been highlighted extensively on KZread. Issue 4: Subpar Engraving Quality Substandard engraving quality can arise due to incorrect settings, a dirty lens, or a malfunctioning laser module. To rectify this, adjustments in settings, proper lens maintenance, and considering the laser module's condition are recommended. Issue 5: Smoke and Odor Production During operation, the machine emitting smoke or strong odors might be a result of a dirty lens, improper settings, or insufficient ventilation. This concern is commonplace among lasers, particularly during cutting. Installing proper external ventilation and employing an enclosed setup are advised solutions. Issue 6: Unusual Motor Noises Motors emitting abnormal sounds during operation may be attributed to loose connections, inadequate lubrication, or faulty motors. Similar observations have been shared on KZread. A common cause was Ortur's inadequate tightening of drive sprocket set screws, resulting in loosening. Issue 7: SD Card Recognition Failure When the machine fails to recognize an SD card, possible reasons include a faulty SD card, corrupted files, or firmware complications. Contacting Ortur for assistance may lead to unresponsiveness, as evidenced by my own experience. Issue 8: Machine Freezing During Operation Machine freezing mid-operation may stem from software/firmware glitches, motherboard issues, or communication problems between the machine and the computer. Establishing a reliable link between my Ortur LM-3 and my computer proved to be a major struggle. Despite weeks of effort and assistance from Ortur, I ultimately sold my brand-new machine at a loss due to this issue. Issue 9: Inconsistent Engravings Inconsistent engraving results might result from incorrect settings, a dirty lens, problematic materials, or a malfunctioning PWM (pulse width modulated) laser power controller. Obtaining assistance from Ortur for this issue was often challenging. Lack of Customer Support and Service In terms of customer service and support, Ortur falls significantly short. Despite purchasing their hardware, I received no aid when problems arose. Requests for help went unanswered, and defective parts were disregarded. Unfortunately, Ortur seems unwilling to invest in its customers' needs or satisfaction. Personal Experience with Ortur LM-3 My excitement for the Ortur Laser Master 3's potential to enhance my workshop quickly turned to disappointment and frustration. Despite its promising appearance, I encountered only obstacles and minimal assistance from Ortur. Their lone response directed me elsewhere for help. Ultimately, after exhausting various resources without resolution, I was forced to sell the Ortur LM-3 at a substantial loss, leading to the demise of my aspirations. An Urgent Recommendation Given my ordeal, I strongly advise considering alternative options before investing in an Ortur product. It is my hope that you avoid supporting a company that displays such an evident lack of commitment to both product quality and customer service. Parting Thoughts I am not inclined to write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience as a cautionary tale for others. Thank you for taking the time to read my account, and I sincerely wish you success in your pursuit of a laser product that truly meets your expectations.

I’ve had this machine for 7 months - it’s now lost power and the customer service is really bad. They advertise a 24/7 customer support but this is a lie and they open at 2am British time. I really wouldn’t recommend it. Worked well for 5months. The warranty doesn’t mean anything to Ortur.
