✏ Eastern Christian Orthodox evening prayers in English with chants (and subtitles).
We use the prayers of the Church (which are mostly taken from the Divine services) since we are never praying in isolation from the Church even when we are all alone. These prayers, written by saints of the Church whose experience of God is more intimate than our own, act as signposts to safely guide us to approach the fearful throne of God with the right attitude.
Similar to why we should pray in the morning, praying at the end of the day is an opportunity to thank the Lord for the blessings He gives and protection He provided us to live another day. Finishing your day with prayer is a powerful way to find peace before falling asleep. Regardless of what you suffered during the day, talking to God through an evening prayer will revive your faith and assist you to sleep in peace.

Thank you for this, I wanted to give up but this message gives me so much hope, my husband died three years ago making me a single mother. I miss him so bad. I’m truly alone. I have no family nor friends. Both of my sons are autistic and non verbal. I’m struggling to provide for them since losing my job over not getting the vaccine. I refused due to my declining health (Lupus) and heart disease. We are facing homelessness. Please keep me in your prayers. I’m losing faith. Thank you

Prayer is the opening up of the heart to God as a friend. Useless repetitive phrases are not how you communicate with people, and it shouldn't be how you communicate with God. The bible does not endorse any kind of rosary and it compares those who repeat prayers to the pagans, who also have repetitive prayers and prayer beads.

@@ssseth9321 The prescribed prayers help you to learn how to open your heart up to God fervently. Ferverance comes from the heart, not from reading a prayer. How about you use your own brain to come up with your own words when talking to your Savior. That's what you do when you talk to your friends. If you're worried about the words being childish and unsophisticated, don't worry, the Holy Spirit's got your back. He will utter it in a way that is sophisticated enough for God to hear. That's what the bible tells me. ''Orthodox also do spontaneous prayer from the heart.'' How about ALL THE TIME. It's the only kind of prayer God likes.

@@danielcristancho3524 Look up the Psalms that say "Song of Ascent" they were Psalms routinely sung as the Levitical priests walked up the steps to the temple to fulfill their duties. Some also think they were sung as the inhabitants made their way up to Jerusalem for the festivals. Not to mention the Psalms in general are songs so popular and routinely used in worship that they were put into a collection. Do you listen to the same worship songs or even songs in general, more than once? In any case, there is nothing wrong with having Liturgical worship and there is actually tons of it all over the Bible. I'm sure you've repeated yourself in prayer many times. I'm not concerned about my words sounding childish or underwhelming, I'm worried about my relationship with God. I come from a Protestant background, so I get the sentiment. I'm not coming at you at all for "praying from the heart", as I mentioned, Orthodox folks do that too. I'm trying to give an explanation (Biblically rooted even) as to why it's okay to repeat prayers and say the same ones regularly, and how it's even beneficial to ones salvation. Jesus spoke against VAIN repetition, not repetition in general. I mean he literally gave us a prayer to say regularly. Lol Prayer from the heart can also be vain.

@@ssseth9321 ''but how can you be sure? Is the heart not deceitful above all things?(Jeremiah)'' Yes, when making decisions that involve morality or truth, the heart can be deceptive, but the heart is able to seek God with sincerity, otherwise God would not have said, "You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.'' (same Jeremiah). God knows when you're for real and when you're not.
