Orrery Construction Time Lapse - Seven Months in Seven Minutes
Ғылым және технология
A seven minute time lapse showing the complete build of my Orrery.
I designed and built this Orrery over the course of ten months. An Orrery is a working model of the motion of planets through our solar system.
Detailed videos of the entire build are available at www.zeamon.com and here on my KenToonz channel.
Plans for the Orrery are detailed in this video: • Zeamon Orrery Plans
The engraving is done with a Drag Diamond Engraver.
The model is one of a kind and NOT FOR SALE.

@KenToonz - forget those nay-sayers spouting crap about what's handcrafted. by their silly notions, handcrafted would suggest not using tools but picking at materials with your fingernails :P your hands were behind the tools, whether your hand grips the tool directly shaping the material, or instructs a computer that controls a machine that shapes the material. in my eyes, a computer is as much a tool as a chisel. keep up the good work my good sir :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! It amazes me that people can watch something like this being created and then fixate on one word engraved on the base.

Well, you made things worse for yourself by engraving the word "handcrafted" with a CNC mill.

Stupid millennial. Hand means hand, not computer.
Glad you liked it. I pretty much worked five days a week. Sometimes full days, others just a few hours. Since I had never made gears before, some of the time was spent figuring out how to do things.
this is, perhaps, one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
I have never seen such quality work done on such a brilliant piece . Timeless and Priceless !
This is absolutely beautiful. Wonderful machining and great videography is a perfect combination!
Unbelievable!!!! Fantastic work. The master at work!

Thanks!
The dying art of craftsmanship. I have been machining for 40 years and always love to see what other people are doing. Thank you for the fine work and the video. I can't begin to imagine how much one of those would sell for. Ten thumbs up. God bless.

craftsmanship died when people became reliant upon cnc power tools like the ones depicted in this video.

david esktorp, Machines and tools are the extension of our hands. The ability of using and making them differentiate us from, and lift us above the animals, even the apes. Apparently you regard only what the cave man produced as "craftsmanship".

@Pigeon, ...and you are a moron with minority complex. He said nothing about hating the younger generation. That's only in your head. It is however clear that you, on the other hand, hate the elderly.
Workmanship, tools and video is absolutely brilliant. Hehe, and the bass sure added to watching this multiple times. There are some details in there that really makes you smile every time. Thanks for taking your time putting it out to the public.
Skill. That’s what is on display here. And a lot of it. And patience also. Exceptional work. Great video also. Thank you for sharing.
Wow that's a lot of work, Kudos for having the dedication to do such a painstakingly detailed build

Being a maker myself (Antikythera Mechanism) and watching this, I can understand the amount of work completely. Doing this in under one year, as a hobby is a record time. And the finish is very good. And the music!! Well done!

Thank You! It's always nice to hear from someone who appreciates what went into a build like this!!!!
Amazing project. I enjoyed watching it.
Nice! Quite a labor of love, with a lot of skill to boot.
Truly beautiful work. What I find even more amazing is that people used to do this by hand, just imagine that for a moment.
WOW! I once cut a gear out of a 2" round by 3/16" thick piece of HMW nylon using a fine V shaped hand file. I cut 48 teeth to match a factory made gear already in place in the mechanism. It took me about 6 hours to cut the teeth and another 2 hours to clean up the teeth so they meshed well. Even if I had the tools you used I don't have the patience anymore. That is a beautiful mechanism you created.
Unbelievable! Fantastic skills. Thank you.
Magnificent creation! Bravo!
Much patience and very good work! Bravo!
Frigging awesome that :) I appreciate Your craft even more as I work with metal sometimes.... but this... this is beyond words.

I love the little CNC machines. A lot of time must have gone into the programming. Great video, and a beautiful Orrery.
No words. This is a Masterpiece !
That was amazing.
*LOVED IT!!*
FANTASTIC JOB
Simply beautiful, what skills!
Beautiful work
Now, that video is kickass!
outstanding work. lot of time effort and skill. great work!
so beautiful, amazing craftsmanship.
What a phenomenally involved process this is - I can only imagine. This is an excellent time-lapse in itself but honestly - the amount of attention to detail required at all stages from design through to the build is utterly amazing. What satisfying work this has to be as well! As a humble woodworker I take my hat off to you! Fabulous stuff and thank you for sharing, from Sydney, Australia - Dave
Truly exquisite.
amazing craftsmanship!!!!!
Simply incredible
Great work !!
Really magnificent - wonderful !
Beautiful Work!
That is just absolutely amazing! I was captivated throughout, almost hypnotic to watch. Why am I crap at things?
Awesome Job!!!!!
Spectacular!!
My God! You must just LOVE hoovering. (Seriously -- ace video and final product. Most enjoyable to watch.)
As a machinist I was so wrapped up in the craftsmanship that I didn't even notice the music. I guess if you are listening to the music you don't really get how much skill and work goes into something like this.
This was truely amazing.
Wow, that's great work! Nice mix of manual and CNC machining - your a clever man. :)
