In this week's farm vlog we take our favorite alpacas to a wedding! It's a long journey for us. Every time we leave our farm it begins and ends w/ a 15 mile dirt road! We face challenges that more unique then other farms because of our remoteness! A lot alpaca farms you see on social media are hobby farms with no more than 5 animals usually. But we are large scale breeders with a herd of over 60!
On the way to the wedding Dave gives me a lesson in hauling a trailer. Watch me (Nicole) learn how to the haul the animals and just a get a little bit frustrated in the process!
The wedding is a success!
And time to celebrate Dave's birthday with some DIY Wet Felted Slippers I make for him. Using fiber from our animals I make a custom pair of slippers from start to finish.
Then - we receive a phone call from someone who just had a baby alpaca born but the mama died the next day and they are not in the position to care for an orphan baby! Dave & I decide that we are the best chance this baby has to survive and we will rescue it - but when the baby arrives on our farm...she has a fever, some neuro abnormalities and diarrhea.
