I'm not from the Pacific Northwest, so I never understood why I was supposed to hate Portland Timbers as a Seattle Sounders fan, and then they eliminated the Seattle Sounders during playoffs, and at that moment, I decided I hated them too. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate the individual players, I think that they all have positive attributes, but I hate the team. Before that, I was largely indifferent, so long as they lost against the Sounders. Now I want them to lose every game they play.

As someone from Europe, this was cute. This is not hate. Partizan Belgrade Vs Red Star Belgrade is hate. Celtic Vs Rangers is hate. Galatasary Vs Fenerbache is hate. Lazio Vs Roma is hate. Literally, people get stabbed or beaten to death at those games. It's nothing to be proud of. But in football that's what hate looks like. In the crucible of brutal football rivalries, Timbers Vs Sounders is a mild dislike, at best. But that's not a slight. It's good. It's how a healthy rivalry should look.

This rivalry has to be the oldest right? Even Pre MLS?

Probably gonna get a bit of hate because of this but despite being a Sounders fan, I respect the hell out of the Timbers Army. The love they have for the team, the chants, the tifos and flags, the log and songs traditions, I love it all! The 2015 MLS cup was the first one I got the chance to watch (I live in Europe so timezones are a problem) and honestly, despite obvious not liking the fact the Timbers won, I still enjoyed the hell of that game and respected the passion that some Timbers players showed. So Portland, I hate your team but I respect your Army and their passion for the team and the sport overall. Shoutout Timber Jim and Timber Joey, respect to both of them too!

Portland claims 2 Cascadia Cups during seasons Seattle didn't even play, and they're still in last place with Seattle and Vancouver having a legit 6.

If you acknowledge that this rivalry has history going back to the '70's, then you HAVE to acknowledge that Seattle has FIVE league titles and Portland only has 1. Seattle has 2 A-League titles, 2 USL titles, and 1 MLS title. Portland ONLY has 1 MLS title. So no, Portland weren't first to win the league. Seattle was, between these two clubs, and Vancouver was the first Cascadia club overall to win a league title when they won the NASL title. You can't pick and choose which parts of history you're going to acknowledge and which parts youre going to ignore. If you acknowledge the footballing history in Cascadia, and not just the MLS history, then Seattle is the far more dominant club.

@@matthew3977 Seattle & Portland are 180 miles apart, that's almost as far as NE-NYC. A lot of the SEA-PDX rivalry comes from the sheer numbers of travelling fans. Show up to the next few NYCFC-Revs away games in numbers high enough to he heard over the TV & see if something doesn't develop on the pitch too.

Sporting KC fan here, the Timbers annoy the heck out of me. Sounders have the better fans and better success, no cap. Still not what we have in Kansas City....

@@JohnStrikwerda this video is SOCCER rivalries which as a canadian I can say Portland Seattle is way beyond Toronto Montreal but still doesn't come close to the Maplelaughs and Canadiens rivalry but like I said when it comes to soccer in Canada and the US nothing touches the Timbers and Sounders rivalry

Everyone in the league now hates LAFC. They make fake claims of racism on the field and their fans don't act like soccer hooligans. Instead they act like a bunch of gang members that decided to back a team. And they throw trash at players on the field. That's not rivalry, that's just ugly.
