The first X100 will always have a special place in my photographic heart... it was so frustrating at the beginning, but this marvellous (and slowest) Hunk of Junk in the galaxy of cameras taught me how to "see" and how to cope with only prime lenses. And it pushed me away from the heavy Canon DSLR to Mirrorless. Best decision ever (in photographic terms)!

Another awesome review. As always, appreciate learning about the origins and history of each camera you review. Best of all, you’ve got great production value, slick edits and one of the best s**t/trash talking game on YT in the photography space.

Definitely very late but great video. I’m definitely looking into this camera for sure. I don’t mind the slow and out dated technology and other slow features. I really do enjoy older cameras and what they offer since it’s perfect for what I shoot for.

I got myself a unit of the OG X100 a couple of months after it came out. It was so hard to get back then. 12 years later, I bring it out with me sometimes. Makes some pics, or as a prop. Still a fun camera to use, although AF is still quirky. I neglected the X100 for the most of the 12 years though, since the batteries died earlier on. Love how you poke fun at the shits people with cameras say !

I'm impressed with how Fujifilm kept releasing new firmwares for the X100 for many many years. It made the camera much better than how it was at launch. I once brought the X100 with initial firmware to vacation. What came out was sharp trees and mountains, with out of focus humans. Almost all the time 😅

AV, excellent monologue on the X100. I have also acquired one about a month ago & am enjoying its characters. When the X100 first introduced it ignited my interest for photography and my lust for great industrial design. I don’t mind its limitations when compared to the current offerings…photography, poor moi, is more than sharpness, vivid colors or details. It’s also about capturing a story, composition &, well, taking a picture for the sake of taking a picture for fun and/or nostalgia. Btw, people are dumping the GFX 50R for under $3,000! I’m soaking in lard heaven with this 📷. Thank you for your creative work & unique talent into your video. ✌🏼 & 📸

Thanks!😁 I guess X100 will do most of the time, just make sure to get the other focal lengths for X-Pro1, cropping on X100 files is not too flexible🥲

I cut my craft on Canon Powershot compacts, with a shutter delay long enough to make a cup of tea, 2mp, since then I have grown to be a professional photographer. Recently I picked up a X100, it is slow compared to my latest Sony stuff. It is not sharp compared to my GM lenses. However, it is still better than my iPhone 14Pro. It's just a different tool, they are all different, you just need to know the limit of the tool and then work to it's strengths.

Talking about X100, I would say it is essential to update; no problems whatsoever, latest firmware fixes many issues, including AF👌

I had it in 2011. Bought new, it was so cool back days than. But also so dissapointingly slow. I know, later they improved it with firmware, but I had some serious troubles with it. I think I paid 1200$ for new on in 2011. Still -- quit loved it output. Lens in X100 was great... for 12 MP. And sensor was quit good. I think this lens and 12 Mp are great match. Later I had also X100F and... well it still was a great one, much faster, but soft on close focus, so it's good they replaced lens on X100V in the end. Ultimately, X100V is the best and maybe I will get it one day. Or maybe not, cause I went Leica way in meanwhile... BTW -- 12 MP was NOT A LOT at 2011. I already had Nikon D600 with 24 MP. So 12 Mp was really low value already in 2011. Also when you are saying about "durable metal body" it's a LOL -- no, man, it's not really. It's a thin peace of metal like in a tincan. No way it's durable one -- hold Leica and THAT IS durable metal body. That was just an imitation, no doubts, and not really a real deal. X100V now at least has real metal, not just veneer. Also Olympus PEN-F had real Alu body. No, unfortunately, Fuji skimped on that. But that's OK. Anyway -- LIKE for you :)

Everything is compared not to other cameras, but to other compacts - of course there were higher mpx cameras with better build👌, but comparing to small cameras in X100 segment at the time - all holds true; DP2 had like 4-5 mpx effectively, Leica X1 also had 12 mpx, but was more expensive; as for your D600 - it was introduced only two years later, before 2010, DX Nikons had 10-12mpx sensors, but anyway, X100 wasn't the competition to them, compared to other compacts - yes, it had better mpx/sensor performance and better sturdier build than all plastic quick snap cams with 1/2.3" sensor...

Nice review in the scheme of things but at the start you say you have been shooting with it for 2 months, hardly makes you an expert wouldn't you say?, i have been shooting with my example bought new almost 10 years ago, and no, its not delicate simply because its old, you simply take care of your gear because you have had to go out to work to pay for it!, slow? yes , fair comment but as a travel cam why does it need to be ultra fast ? surely you dont want to rush, you want to make sure you create image to saver the moment ? as a street machine its still perfect because it still auto focuses plenty fast enough for that kind of work. As a travel cam its perfect, if you are going somewhere really cold, plan ahead, take more batteries and a travel charger, as an architecture cam its perfect for work for example inside a Cathedral, the flash capability is awesome with strobes such as metz et al. Landscape,s no problem, is the guy with the latest Leica M10 r , going to stick it on a tripod and leave out while its pisses it down/ catch my drift.

I didn't say I'm an expert after two months, I said I've used it enough to draw some conclusions, and I agree with your points; however just because it fits you It doesn't mean it would fit everyone, right?🤔 I think I objectively pointed out pros and cons... Is it the best? No. Is it the worst? No. It wouldn't fit me personally, which, again, is because of the lens focals, but not because it's old or underperforming. As for the travel, I still stand with that for the money you can get a better camera for that; you can do it with X100, I didn't say you couldn't, but it is a fact that you can get a more compact, versatile and newer camera to carry around on the go.
