I was actually Origin's first employee and first off I really appreciate the honest review! I'm also a 41 year old brown belt that's been training for 15 years so I understand hahahaha. I went to a textile seminar (not really as fun as a bjj seminar I promise) and they explained pilling to me. Pilling is the sign of a strong textile in the fabric. The yarn is made up of short staple fibers spun together and cotton has a VERY short staple fiber which makes it rip very easily but it make it so the pilling actually falls off very easily so you don't see it. Our jackets use our PolySynth yarn which has a much longer staple fiber which makes it way stronger than cotton and hydrophobic so it doesn't absorb sweat. But since the staple fibers are so much stronger when the fabric pills it doesn't always fall off naturally. That's why you don't usually see pilling in cotton but you do in wool (because the fiber is longer). Again I loved the video, good luck working towards your black belt and keep up the great videos!!!!

I am looking for a new gi. I am 53 now, and it is getting more difficult to lug the weight of a normal gi. I want something like the Ouahu (?) gis that were popular 10 years ago. Not a bit of luck finding something like that now though. I tried to buy a bamboo gi when Scotty was still making them for his OTM gis, but they are no longer available, either. So, I am looking for a great, lightweight, comp-friendly gi. I don't care about IBJJA rules, but I do want a gi that is comparable to comp gi style so that those rolling with me can still get a real tournament feel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I don't REALLY care about price, but obviously, I would like the best deal I can get. If it means I have to spend more to get exactly what I want that is fine, though. Thanks for any suggestions. Roll On! The Jits Fits: Jiu Jitsu Fiends Club Chadillac 765 210 0123 P.S. I am always looking to sponsor up-and-coming hard-core JJ competitors! If you like The Jits Fits say so and I can send you some stickers to see if we mesh well before sponsoring new talent.

Dude, thanks for the review. I can say that Origin is the only company that makes its GIs. Every other company uses contact plants overseas to make the product. We have spent years trying to reinvent the GI, and we are Still looking for ways to make it better! On the Pilling that your seeing, this is because we use our own blend of fibers to make our fabric. Other companies use 100% cotton, which anyone that knows fabric cotton is the worst fabric to train/sweat in. That's also why their gi's shrink and ours don't. Back before I started working at Origin, I got my first Origin Gi in 2017. I had the same questions, why is it pilling, and is this a bad thing. I reached out to Jon at Origin, and he explained the process of making fabric and what that means. In short, the process of pilling isn't bad, nor does it mean that the fabric is of less quality. Due to our fabric, when it pills, it makes the weave even strong. We have never had a Gi fail or tear due to manufacturing issues which I don't think any other company can say. I've seen Origin Gi's that are 8 years old and look like they have been worn every day, and they are still holding strong! Again thanks for the reviews, and Keep up the videos! If you ever need anything, Reach out to me on IG. I know in time we will become your fav gi! On IBJJF, our Peal weave is allowed in IBJJF but not the Dragon weave. They have some strange rules. They don't like the belt system, so that is why we put a rope in all orders.

I have both the Path and Atleta gi which are the pearl weave made before the nanopearl weave. I believe that the paperwork for those says that pilling is normal and that you can shave it off with a lint shaver or let it come free on its own through hard rolling. Thanks for sharing the info as I am looking into getting a Shoyoroll in the future when I see a design that speaks to me.

I have an Origin Apache gi with the pro pants (black) which I absolutely love, it’s the perfect summer weight gi. However, I just ordered their brand new Raptor Axiom in white and I’m stunned by the quality it has. I can only compare it to a fine Persian rug, it looks amazing and feels like silk. My Origin Rift is BY FAR the most comfortable gi kimono I’ve ever worn - but it is not the best fit. I have many (many!) gis; Shoyoroll, A&P, Kingz, CTRL, Fuji, Hiro, others - Origin is by far the best fabric. It is never stiff or rough, it is always soft and comfortable. My biggest complaint- the sleeves are VERY short. It’s not a shrinkage issue, it’s just the cut. I don’t even have long arms, they’re just cut super short. I also LOVE the pro pants with the swivel buckle belt; it NEVER comes undone, and I never feel the buckle against my body. It’s moisture wicking, and breathes more than any article of clothing. And given the uptick in the cost of other gis out there, it’s not even that much more expensive.

If it pills buy a $10 fabric shaver. Origin gis are like Ferrari's of the gi world. They need some upkeep. I trained with a girl that had a butt load of makeup on and it was all over my Origin gi. One spray of tide spray and it came right off. I fabric-shave the gi once a month. It looks great and smells great if you spray it after every roll.

I hate training in the gi, always have and always will but when i am forced and or coerced into to doing so it will be in a Origin gi. Had a bunch of other brands and they all sucked but when i put on my first Origin gi i was like "this don't suck". I know Origin would want a better more detailed explination but from a person that absolutely despises training in the gi you can't get a higher compliment. " At Origin, we don't suck". America

All that shoyoroll has going for it now a days is decent fit, if you like a slim cut gi. I have had expensive gis and cheap $65 gis. They have all lasted years. Any gi will eventually wear out but cheap ones usually will last a few years even if you beat on it everyday. Shoyoroll is not worth the money in my opinion, they are cheaply made in Pakistan. I have many that have crooked stitching and the pearl weave feels like any other gi on the market. Origin on the other hand is made in America by Americans and use premium materials and new innovations. Shoyoroll current designs are also horrible

If that raw unfiltered fiber, is spun in to yarn, that yarn will produce sub premium fabric... On the other hand Premium fabric is made by removing the debris, and then combing the fiber to filter all particles so that you're left with smooth soft small fibers of cotton.
