I can't use but 3 fingers and it's not anywhere as clean but what it is is he has a very good grasp of how hard to attack the strings and the agility to not get tangled up with his fingers brushing against each other or going out of the intended place when he extends them. Like when I extend my pinky it wants to travel to the right or left depending on what hand and it's out of my control

Kill Everyone Robert Trujilo has used this back in his suicidal tendencies days, also this technique (I have used it in my band) is kinda exhausting cos without a compressor you have a weaker pinky hit than thumb hit. Also basses with necks that extend longer, to the middle of the body rather than just the the neck pocket, make it easier as your hands bounce of the fretboard for a more percussive sound.

I’m really looking forward to how musicology looks back at this sort of music in like 50 years. We don’t necessarily consider much of what was “cutting edge artistry and technical virtuosity” in 1970 to really be all that virtuosic anymore. But this? This is human ability at a level that I don’t think any of us even imagined 20 years ago. This wasn’t common place in 2000. How will the future look back on this level of technical ability and this style of music?
