    1. That compressor sounds amazing. I knew that.. .and forgot. I won't forget again. 2. The RevivalDrive in this demo has blown my mind.. especially the TWEED sounds. Wow. 3. I adore Simon's unveiled hatred for mediocrity. That's a guy I want to buy stuff from.

I’m hoping they’ll release a simplified version with just one side for half the price. The ideal would be to split this pedal into two separate Fender and Marshall friendly variants, using the Cali76 layout/format with a couple of additional toggle switches for further tone shaping. This would make it much less daunting, more user friendly, and more affordable! Love my Cali76 btw.

  • @coffeewaldo

Horst Jedlika well as I said I think it’s too expensive. As I said I bought it used mint. I wouldn’t buy full price. I sold about 4 pedals to pay for it. I have to play it thru a slight crunchy amp to get the high gain I want. It’s definitely not shrill sounding like here. It’s all how you set it. I figured it out quickly. I like it though. And I couldn’t stand my kemper and I plugged it into that and it handled the high gain profiles beautifully. Felt and sounded so much better. So far it’s a keeper. FYI I got the standard version. The output is very loud. Which is the volume. The volume knob is the gain. I’m not done fooling with the little knobs at the bottom.

As a huge fan of Lowell George I spent many years trying to get close to his sound and eventually stumbled across the Slide Rig on Michael Messer's forum. I must have been one of their earliest customers as mine is serial number 008 and I love the thing to bits as it gave me THAT sound. Hats off to Simon Keats for creating such an amazing piece of kit. With that in mind, I was curious to see what his overdrive pedal would sound like. From this demo there is no doubt that it sounds amazing but I can't help feeling that it looks awfully complicated and slightly intimidating. The great thing about the Slide Rig is that each compressor only has three controls so you don't need a degree in electronics to dial in a good sound. Whilst the Revival Drive is undoubtedly extremely versatile, I can't help feeling that a player of my limited ability needs something a shade more simple.

What a difference two lessons with Justin can make... Absolute paradigm-shift in playing from the Captain. I've enjoyed your style (Lee) for a few years, but the new [apparent] concentration on licks in favour over pattern or minor pentatonic scale does really bring out great, soulful blues tones and phrasing, to my ears at least. PLEASE keep up the Rut Busters series, its such a pleasure seeing Justins' experience in teaching and Cap's burgeoning lead guitar confidence and development. ps. this origin overdrive sounds ridiculously good, great even.

Holy mother of pearl inlays... that Les Paul tone on the "Bonamassa" setting was outrageous!! This seems like a very serious piece of gear, probably a game-changing one too. Simon's approach and creativity in designing an analog pedal that reproduces different classic amps' topology might not be completely novel, but he seems to have taken it to a whole new level with the Revival Drive - very much in the same vein as what he's done with the compressors. This could be the perfect tool for players who love the "Clean Amp + OD Pedals" approach, like me. Ultimate flexibility and control over tone and volume. I need to start saving now.

Serious GAS but in the informed/good way here. Actually for both the revival drive and cali 76 compact. You‘ve really come a long way from when our paths crossed back in the day at vox amplification Simon. Hats off to you and to the current pinnacle of your fine creations. The revival drive sounds exactly what every serious player wants from such a design - rich in texture and nuances alike plus the open and unforgiving overall soundscape. Adorned with a gamut of tweaking options for different setups. Awesome is a serious understatement. Thanks to Andertons for putting up such a great demo.

Yeah, so it 'can' utterly sound amazing. No doubt about it. Immensely capable and musical sounding bit of kit. Problem is.... I don't have the seemingly necessary PHD in electronics and psychoacoustics(?) to be able to know what button to smash/turn/bugger-about-with to even begin to shape a useable sound from it. I think I just need a pedal with a 'make this sound tremendous' button. Yeah... someone should make that.

Perhaps so, but that’s not the impression I’m left with after watching this video. Quite the contrary. Maybe I’m alone in that though. My take is that it’s an excellent product. No doubt about the quality of the tone and sound. Exceptional. My ears bear that out. I applaud the level of research, knowlegde and sheer skill that went into making it so good. But my impression is that it’s a product created by experts for users with similarly high expertise/understanding. Perhaps it’s this video that left me with that impression - in which case perhaps a slightly more ‘inclusive’ video would serve the product better. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comment though. Much appreciated.

Vaild points Graham. With control knobs multiplying, pedals seem to be morphing gradually into floor guitar processors. I bought a Boss GT100 a few years ago and used it for quite a while, spending a lot of (too much) time messing about customising patches, etc. etc. Last year I sold it on Ebay, bought some basic pedals and haven't looked back. I can't help but think we're looking at the thin edge of the wedge here.

I have to say its interesting for an amp style drive with so many knobs, it doesn't have a 3 band eq even though most classic amps I like either dont have EQ or I dont use it drastically. That said far out it sounds like an amp it has those harmonic kind of nastyness that a real amp has not the nicest tone but lively especially the ghost note and nnf stuff which is what a 60s VOX is like.

I've been watching these for a while, and it is SO PAINFUL how drastic the volume difference between the mic and guitar is. I can't watch these in the evening, because when the guitar comes in, it would wake everyone up. I have to move the volume half way up or down constantly.

There is no way I could introduce that many switches and knobs into my guitar rig and still get a good night’s sleep. It sounds wonderful and incredibly flexible, but my favourite overdrive has 1 knob! But those tones Joss was getting, fuck!

Was searching this video again after an year for that les paul. What finish is that? It cant be normal gibson gold top, it's way more "gold", like prs egyptian gold finish. Anyone have any info on the guitar, is it a refinish?

Suggestion: Lee and Rob Cheap guitar vs Expensive amp revisited with role reversals. This time Lee gets the good amp and Rob gets the better guitar.

This pedal is very complicated and it's also very expensive. And, I would usually prefer something much much simpler. But, damn if it doesn't sound killer for pretty much every task it's set.

Grant Ferstat it’s not complicated. Takes maybe 15 minutes to figure it out. And then it’s super simple.

I would rather buy a Marshall Origin 50H at the same price!! Chop this thing in half and have a memory on it so it remembers settings and you might have a winner, in a gig situation you would have encase this so you didnt accidentally change the settings. For me 6knobs duplicately and 5 switches plus dipswitches plus customer more switches it needs an app to remember what you did. I stay away from stuff like this even the Brothers is somewhat knob bound to, but has midi switching!

Im less than half way through (21;14) and ive never seen the captain sound so unsure of something. Eg. "Yea It sounds good?" like you are asking if it sounds good and not convinced that it does at all. To me, it does sound great but using it with a Strat through a small fender on the bridge pickup is putting anything to the ultimate test. I also note that you are not muffling the strings which makes the pedal sound even brighter. If I didnt know better I would say the Captain is almost trying to make this pedal look/sound bad. Ill continue watching though. Lets see some more honest enthusiasm Captain. :) unless you really genuily dont like it. :(

I love the features but I cant use this. Im tired of constantly bending over to change settings. Why is there no control via midi built in ? It would make the pedal really usable with different amps and allow access to all pots through an expression pedal.
