Lol. The moral of the story is once your partner gets bored of you and you start arguing, they'll cheat and blame you. Hate me but remember this comment when your relationship breaks down. As most do and yours probably will.

To all those people who have a physically or mentally abusive partner, first, leave them, they are NOT worth a second of your time. Second, know that the things they've done or said to you is NOT TRUE. I'm sure you are a wonderful person, they just couldn't see it.

@nerdy drawer, but what about those of us who can't just leave? What about those of us who aren't being physically abused and don't even really know if this should be considered mental abuse or not? Sometimes it feels like I can't even get my facts straight and no ones there to help me. My dad calls me stupid and pathetic when my whole life all I've ever done was to please him and my mother. I have no one to talk to about this. So what about those of us who are to young to leave? Should I run away? Or should I just put up with it? I need answers. What about those of us who come to KZread just to vent in the comment section because they feel like only they'll listen?😣😟😞

What about when it's your parents instead I'm not a legal adult yet nor do I have a means to support myself and they pay for all of my medical appointments,procedures,surgeries,medications,medical tests, and I have loads of medical conditions so idek if I could get a job or who would take me besides I'm still in high school and they pay for my homeschooling and refuse to let me get my license so I can't drive I'm at the legal age that I can in fact take the tests and get my license. So it's not like i can just leave the house when I get screamed at either.

When I was little, I never understood what this song was about, but I get it now. The boyfriend, I'm assuming he was, was...well, he was abusive. Maybe not physically, but definitely mentally. And what really speaks to me is how the singer moved on from that toxic relationship, finding someone who actually appreciated her. But something that I always asked was "why does she say 'according to you' at the end again?" But I think I've figured it out: when someone damages your self-esteem, it's hard to believe in yourself for a while. Even though she's found this wonderful new person who is obviously much better than the previous boyfriend, the toxic relationship is still ruling in her mind. I never realized just how important this song really is, and I'm glad that I've taken the time to dissect it after hearing it again.

For me, this song is about seeing the worst in yourself and not being able to see yourself from the person who truly loves you perspective. If only we could see ourselves from an outside view, then we'd be at peace with ourselves. Thats true love.

I see some comments where girls say that they thought they could relate to this when they were young, but maybe you did more then you think. When I hear this song I imagine the "current boyfriend" is actually my own mind. This is all according to me. A lot of young girls who are insecure can relate to this song because all those things the "boyfriend" is saying, they tell themselves everyday. The other guy is the people around us or in my case my fiance who tries to make me "see it through his eyes." Unfortunately, no one other than ourselves can make us see the beauty in ourselves. As my therapist says, "What makes you worth any less then anyone else in the world?" And she answered it with a quote, "We're all the same when we're asleep."

for me, the 'you' of the song is myself, it's the voice of my self-esteem shattered by wrong people, by my family, by the bad situations in which I found myself. 'him' instead ... I'm still looking for him. I hope to find someone one day who will convince me that I am something more. For now, every time someone complimented me or tells me something nice, to me it sounds like a lie, and I almost get angry because I think he/She is making fun of me :(

I can agree with that. Then again, the only two boyfriends I've ever had 1) dumped me through my best friend and we barely even held hands and 2) was so clingy I had to break up with him. The first guy fell down the stairs at school today, and even though it's been two years my friend found revenge in that. I love my friends.

Singing to my mother about my girlfriend. My mum always told me that I wasn't worth the oxygen I breathed and that I was never going to get anywhere and that I was a waste of space. My wonderful girl is now fighting hard to change these perceptions of myself that I have. She always calls me beautiful and lets me know that I am amazing

When I was younger, I was going to audition for Next Star with this song. Which... if you don't know, was like a kids American Idol.

This song is amazing, i was a freshmen in high school when it came out. and now a graduate i still love this song!!!

This reminds me of how my grandparents were, They were always judging me for everything. Not looking right, not doing what they wanted. They always made me feel like the worst screw up ever. But when I moved back with my mother, she always tells me how much she loves me and that I was the only one that helped her get through my step father.

I lived this song as a young teen. I was with a guy much older than myself at that age, and he was basically just using me to not be alone. When I finally confronted him the morning before our 2nd anniversary, he broke up with me. But I had someone who had claimed to love me for years. And he had helped me through my entire relationship. I don't think I could of handled it without him. I was extremely suicidal and kinda still am but I've been dating the man who said he loves me and he has bpd so he can't help everything he does sometime, but he's always comes back around to me.

y'know it's funny... you could technically apply this to yourself. Example: I've had a poor self image for a long time. Terrible self esteem, and I'm always down on myself. I look in the mirror and all I see are flaws. Yet I'm in a happy relationship and have been for six years. The "According to you" can be addressed to the mirror. Your reflection. I realized how I'm always thinking terribly of myself, and how my boyfriend is always trying to tell me what he sees. Listening to this, thinking it over, I realized I'm not as terrible as I think I am. According to me, I'm fat, ugly, clumsy, stupid, and all around unattractive. But to him, I'm perfect. Could lose some weight, but that's easy enough, and he's even helping me do so. All in all, when you really think about it, this song is a real confidence booster. :) Sorry if this sounds stupid or like I'm just babbling, just thought it'd be a good thought for all of us who have self-esteem and confidence issues.

I am always crying when I listen to this because it's always after a fight when he tells me how useless I am. I listen to this to give me some confidence.

I have never related to a song more right now. My “friends” would always put me down in such horrible ways and I just kept giving them more chances. They Try to ruin my relationship and friendships and laughter about it like it’s a joke. I just stood up to them yesterday and made so many new, better friends and be never been happier.
