Organizing Sea Shells; What My Collection After 5 Months of Shelling Every Weekend Looks Like.

I've been shelling every weekend for the last 5 months and it was time to go through all my treasures and figure out wha to do with them. Organizing the sea shells that I collected took FOREVER! I need to figure out a new way to sort and store them. After I show you all the shells I've collected I also share how I display my keeper shells and some of the projects we've made with the shells we've collected.

    I watch ur channel with envy...love going to the ocean/beach & look for shells...drift wood or anything unusal...but I live in Idaho...no beach no ocean...however my youngest son lives in Southern California so when I visit he always takes me to the beach...I have even brought home sand in a little jar...so needless to say I will continue to watch you shelling...and with that I say THANKYOU...

    You are so very welcome. When we were traveling back and forth from NJ to FL before we moved here, I was wishing there was a local channel down here that I could somehow "stay in touch" with the beach while I was up north. I guess I went and created what I wished I had! I'm so glad to bring you to these amazing Florida beaches with me!

    Love the gum ball machine filled with shells. Also your jars, especially your scallop collection. I feel the same way about kitten, cat, and lion paws as you seem to about scallops; they speak to me. My mom used to spend 6 weeks (Feb-early March) in Boca Grande. Almost all my shells are from visits there, visits to Sanibel, etc. I have glass jars of sand dollars. But my favorite display are the shells I piled into the glass globes normally used for candles on a pair of wrought iron wall sconces that were made for me by a friend. Thanks for sharing your adventures...you are my favorite gatherer. Sea sounds, your lovely voice, your explanation of the shells, etc. Perfect!

    I really enjoy your videos and I think it's cool that you have a lot of examples but I am realizit's better for me to rotate shells Because the reality is do I really needigital zillion of one type of shell... I keep special colors or sizes or something that's unique. When I 1st got started I had some bot as atractive shells as I've improved. I slowly purged out the other ones and put them into the lagoons by where i live for the critters to live in Or some people to stumble upon and collect for themselves Once i realized hermit crabs can live over fifty years and realized that they are running out of shells I just decided to put back . I think I will always be addicted to shelling the rush of finding something new when you're hunting is awesome Your videos have inspired me. I've been to several places on the southeast coast and just found epic shells down there for a whole week Thanks for all the information and great videos

    Thank you for letting me know where you're watching from. I bet the beaches up there are gorgeous! Sorry these snail creatures prefer the warm waters of the Gulf 😊 For. my acid video I have put some similar shells to the side - one set I'm going to dip in acid, the others I'm going to use mineral oil and compare the results. I'm curious myself so I'm going to experiment! Thank you for watching!

    I love what you & your hubby did with the shells! I have a box of shells I collected years ago on Treasure Island Beach but never got around to do anything with them yet! Hoping during winter months I’m hoping to get them out & decide what I want to do with them! Lot of my favorites are also yours! By the way, did you cover the cushion in video? It has sea turtles on it! I have the same fabric! Used it in a quilt I made for my cousin! She has a turtle she has raised since he was a wee little guy & she loves turtles, dogs, cats & she feeds all wildlife that comes into her yard! I haven’t been able to travel for some years now & so miss the beach & looking for shells! Thank you for bringing the beach to me! I truly love watching your beach adventures & have given me ideas for use of my shells! On trip to Amish country in Ohio we saw a water fountain covered in sea shells & want to do the same. Not sure if I have enough. If not, I will try some of your wonderful ideas! Thank you again! Great show!!!!

    The table & cushion both look very nice! Since it is nearly winter here, I will wait till spring to get my shells out! For years, my husband & I would get up before sunrise & walk the beach in search of shells. Sometimes walking entire length of Treasure Island, Florida! Watching your videos brings me back to those wonderful days! I have some pretty bad back issues & two surgeries from car accident years ago. So, I so enjoy your shelling! Since I would have trouble walking the beach now, it brings me back to the good old days of shelling! When you put a shell back because maybe little chipped or lack of shine, I’m the one screaming noooo- throw it my way! Lol! Thank you much for all the wonderful shelling adventures! I have been keeping up with clean up of your beaches! It will take some time but am sure it will be back better than ever! Best to you as you become Florida Naturalist! Great collection (or recent collection)! You really need to take a day trip up to Honeymoon Island State Park and bring a bucket for chestnut turban shells to add to it! You won't be disappointed. Opens at 8AM and closes at sunset. If you park at the north beach, it's a 2 1/2 mile walk to the end so 5 round trip. Low tide is better or you'll be doing some hiking. $8/car to get in.

There is a ferry to Caladesi from Honeymoon (check online for a $1 coupon), but, honestly, the shelling is just as good at Honeymoon. TONS of turbans this morning! What kind of drill bit do you use? I have a lot of shells and I want to make a wall hanging- bamboo horizontally, top and bottom. Drill little holes in both pieces, top and bottom in the bamboo. Then using jute to make a grid. I'll probably make it about 3' square. Then inside each of the blocks on the jute grid, I will hang different shells. BUT! I don't want to break my shells! That's why I'm curious about what your husband used to drill the holes when you made the jewelry. Thanks, Cindy

We would normally hit Seaside Park in the summers and I would never find anything good on the beach. A clam here and there but that was it. • @SWFBeachLife

    @SWFBeachLife

    3 жыл бұрын

    The move was not anything we expected. Looking back I would have done a whole bunch of things different. I would have sold my house when the market was right and rented, so when we were ready to move I wouldn't have had to worry about selling the house. Additionally, if I had any reservations about where to move in Florida, again, I would have rented until I figured it out. We were lucky that we choose the PERFECT area to live, but absolutely nothing else went as planned. We visited down here every couple of months to try to get a feel of where we wanted to be and while it was great traveling down here, those trips didn't really let us experience what it was like to live here. If you know exactly where you want to live you are golden! All those other moving pieces (houses, kids in college) can be managed much better if you consider the renting factor. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. Thank you for watching!
