This makes sorting your photos pretty easy. At the end of the icloud sync stage, you will find all your photos and videos in thier relevant year's smart folders. After that, you can tackle the sorting into non-smart albums at your leisure. Any new photos you take meantime will appear in the 2024 smart album. Thanks!

My first Mac was a 2009 iMac. My grandchildren still using it. I got an iMac because of the Photo app. I started using years for albums since day one. Thanks for all your tips & help.

When I tried to open the purchased photo library it says unsupported library. The library organized photo is from a newer version of photos. Please upgrade photos to open this library. Then it says updating library with 100 percent complete and doesn’t work from there. Any info would be gladly appreciated.

With your smart album containing 2 rules. The format you have is month/date/year. My country uses date/month/year. Will your download system sort my photos in the various albums or do I need to change the date format in all of the smart albums before I use your system.

Shouldn’t make a difference

I have 95% of my pictures and videos already organized by year but in an external SSD. And have photos in photos library from 3 years ago. I only have 512GB SSD and about 2TB of total photos/videos. By doing this, could I keep my photos library in an External SSD indefinitely instead of the Mac’s internal storage?

what kind of a hard drive should I get?

Believe it is better to learn how to make these templates or organize photos photo app and how to sync them to the iCloud and do same thing with iPhone photo app . takes a few tutorials but I guess some people just don't have time to learn and can afford to buy . which is good too .

I will create a backup of my Photos library for the sake of insurance. However, rather delete the current library why not leave it where it is, then move the new library in the same folder. Now I can use the Option Key while opening the Photos app and select the new library and proceed from there?

You could do that but you have to be very careful in monitoring your hard drives capacity

I don’t own a physical external hard drive… Could I just upload it to a folder in iCloud?

yes it works! I have the same amount of photos and videos and organize it over the many last years the "old" way. Perfect, easy, fast. 👍
