Yes, the thrift stores in our area have increased prices to ridiculous amounts. They are trying to sell Dollar Tree items for $3 or more. That's crazy to charge more for it used than new. I've all but stopped going to thrift stores. The closest Habitat for Humanity store is always so picked over, and the only things left have been there for ages. Now I will ask on Facebook if a friend or family member has what I'm needing. I'd rather give them the money than pay triple the amount at the thrift stores.

I’ve had the same experience. Years ago I splurged on wooden chargers from Pier 1. I only bought four, so I got excited when a few years later I saw four more at a thrift store near my house. I thought I was going to score a deal, but I was shocked when I saw the price. They were asking more per charger than when I bought them brand new. 😮

I'm AWFUL. Don't tell my store this , but when DT was still $1, I used take post-it notes pre-written with "dollar tree item!" on it. When I would see Greenbriar, I would slip the note on the product! I doubt they changed anything but it burned me that badly!

@@anaverran3040 If you've never been to an estate sale you should check some out. You'll get to know the companies in your area and figure out which companies have good prices and which ones are too high. Also with estate sales the prices usually go down about 25% each consecutive day of the sale so if you really want something but it's overpriced you can choose to wait for the price drop as long as you won't be too disappointed if someone else beats you to the punch. You can also ask for a discount early, the worst they can say is "no." Also don't forget about Garage Sales when the weather is nice. Happy hunting!

Yes, the Thrift Stores that I donate to regularly have increased their prices drastically! It’s beyond ridiculous and unfair to the people that have no choice but to shop there but at the current prices, everyone is better off going directly to the retail stores and buy on sale. You also have several people that go in there to resell at market prices and that I believe has also caused increased prices.😐

Resellers are making thrift store shopping bad for almost everyone else. They kind of monopolize the area they are shopping in the books and no one else can even look at that shelf till they have looked at each and every book and checked them against their list. Other areas are equally bad with the stopping to price check and holding up anyone else shopping in that aisle. They also leave the shelves a mess. And thrift store prices are ridiculous now.

Liners are necessary in our home. I have removed glued-on liners to wash them and put them back in the baskets. Not only do they keep things from getting snagged, but they protect the inside of the basket from getting banged up. Real wicker baskets are my go-to for keeping things grouped and organized.

We could start calling them Earth stores instead of thrift... they're about so much than saving money. Prices may be higher, but I'll always stand behind thrift shopping, simply because it's about using things that already exist. When we buy brand new, we ultimately send the message to those big companies to, yes, please go ahead and make more stuff, enough doesn't exist already, we'll keep buying if you keep making it. Of course, there are certain things I'll buy new (socks, undies), but otherwise, using what already exists just makes sense to me. 😊 🌎 ♥️

Some baskets need liners and some don't. Often it's as much about what you want to keep in them. Baskets like the white wicker ones featured are great unlined for larger hard/smooth things but will tear up clothes without a liner. Best are the ones with liners that can be removed, laundered, and replaced with a little careful attention and those that have no points or rough edges to snag.

Hi Kathryn, I am known as the Button Girl and the Knob Girl. I worked at a mom and pop lumber yard for years and many closed in the early 1990s when the Home Depots came to my area of Northern Virginia. We had a large sale at our lumber yard that had been open since the 1930s receiving logs and wood from Maine on the train behind the mill. The last day that the lumber yard was open we started to give things away for free even to staff. Of the clerical staff I was the only one that raided the cabinet doors and knobs. I had a studio basement apt at the time but I had an F250 PU truck, my Dad was having a large addition put on his house and I grabbed things I thought he could use. No time to call and say hey do you want this go out and ask Joey (contractor). I grabbed cabinet doors that we made for a customer that never returned. I raided the knob bin as I had recently found a dresser on the curb that didn't have knobs. To this day (over 20 years ago) the dresser is next to my sewing machine with 8 free brass knobs from Murphy & Ames Lumber. I have more knobs and your mirrors on the walls for jewerly I may be doing. My Dad himself after his addition was completed made his own built ins for all his artifacts from around the world he has collected from 1600BC tear cup collectors and wine glasses from the Queen Mary etc etc. On the bottom of the bookcase like built ins are the cabinet doors I took for free from the lumber yard. Get this, the yard crew had Makita and DeWalt drills and sanders still in their black cases never opened. Staff recd those I took one for myself (a drill) and one for my Dad. My brother came and took a jig saw for free. I was hoping to get the chop saw but someone beat me to it. I am getting ready to buy my first house. My goal was to buy by the time I was 25 but I never made it. Now in my 50s I am finally able to. My papers are at the bank to see what I can be approved for and I have a nice amount saved. I love to sew, so curtains are covered there. I even make my own dust ruffles. I am happy to learn about these liquidators I shall Google it. I also have in the past donated wicker furniture to the Habitat Restore near me that I now kick myself for donating but, my storage unit went up very high. My new little place (I am hoping for) has a small patio. I love your channel. I am up at 4:30 watching this because I have RLS very bad this week. I have a disabled leg but I fell last week on vacation and banged up my good leg. I was happy to see this video was so recent too so then you know what stores currently have at about the same time you posted. Your one of my favorite KZread personalities especially for crafts. I presently live in a 1940 historical building and I am not allowed to use nails or molly bolts so all my large art pieces are not hung. Your wire shelves gave me an idea to maybe find one and for now prop up on a table. I make all my earrings and I haven't a way to store them. I bet the fish hook style ones will hang nice on the racks. Thank you for a great video. I came on to watch a video on how to make bags out of wrapping paper but I could not find it. I saw this and thought well, Kathryn is better than that! 🥰 Fondly, Rebekah

Hi, I used to think the same way about basket liners untill I found a basket I absolutly use daily. It's used for harvesting, picking up clutter, dirty dishes, clean dishes, taking care of small items and sometimes a few linens. To keep it clean I use a liner of some sort. Also if someone has trouble seeing small items that may get caught in wicker and they have a wicker basket the liner can be a real game changer making it easier for them to find and grab things.... You did a great job on your video. God bless. 🙂

The chain thrift stores have raised their prices a lot! I find that the small hospice thrift stores are best. However, if you shop the sale days you can still get bargains ( all red tags etc). I haven't done this in awhile but the next county was a "rich people" county so their thrift stores had more upscale items. I used to buy my work outfits that way, especially at the end of the season.

I especially get annoyed when I can go to the sale section of Walmart or target and get a brand new item for $3-10 and the thrift store is selling the same item for more sometimes. 😆 I tend to go to smaller or church run stores to get the best thrift deals. I look for very specific items and I try not to buy things I won’t use often. I don’t want to become my own thrift store. Lol.

Those huge totes are also great for a garden bed liner like a large container then fill it halfway with shredded Walmart bags the blue fabric ones will break down over many years but will provide aeration of the roots just dump in all your soil over the shredded bags and it’s all inside one bin bag but that’s a great size for an herb garden or raised flower planter ! Great ideas my friend I love your channel and your enthusiasm is contagious Thank you fir that most of all you get me excited to go clean or organize because of a tip you showed us! I cut old throw away furniture up to reuse or I disassemble furniture from the curb to re use and I don’t want it in a landfill . I wish the government just sent us all Lomi’s the indoor composter and solar panels for everyone it would help so much . I’ve started a garden bed with a great I mean really great product for 100$ shipped to my door from Out Sunny I saw online it’s huge it’s steel it has poles to put the netting over and it prevents critters from eating my veggies . 100$ four sides steel ,aluminum poles netting I did it myself which Wow if you knew me lol 😆! Lol stay happy Catherine or Katherine !sorry I’m not sure which spelling say hey to Charlie and the children too we love you from Canad 😍‼️🇨🇦🌺🌺

I rarely shop at thrift stores but I've used SO MANY of the IDEAS you and the DT KZreadrs have given me to "shop my home" or to give an item, like a wine rack, a wire shelf or an old cd holder, a second look. Just because thrift stores might be too expensive doesn't mean we might not find some of these items for FREE in someone's front yard or on Facebook marketplace. Love, love, love your creativity.

I dont shop good will or the salvation army stores, i go to my homeless thrift store which I also donate stuff to there prices are reasonable. I got a cabinet there i had been looking for. I dont know if i'll do much more renovating right now since the passing of my husband i have lost interest. Totally enjoyed, love you excitement, thanks for the hug i needed that today. God bless you and your family.🤗🦋

Everything I own has been thrifted or handed down, I'm 63, it's always been a hobby for me. I'll never forget when I came across a really cheap looking, nothing basket in Value Village for $2.50 and just the previous day, it was a $1 at a Dollar store. Value Village is the worst! They claim to be a charity, but a very small percentage of their profit goes there. It's brilliant actually they don't even have to buy their product. In the small city I live in, I know people that have worked there and it was a horrible experience, really not kind to their employees. I often go to the Habitat for Humanity Store (the Restore) it's still fairly reasonable ✌♥️🕉🇨🇦

I put liners in most of my baskets to save my fingernails. I reach in a non-lined basket, and bang, I've chipped or broken a fingernail. But I know how to sew and it is easy to make removable liners for just about any basket. I generally use old sheets as I have a lot of them and they make great liners.

Our mid size town had a married couple open a bin store recently w Amazon returns. First day sales start @ $7, then go down daily until the final big ikea bag sale for $10. Goodwill prices have gone up way too high here. I prefer to shop @ St Vincent DePaul because they return resources back into the community. I have enough similar items you shared already in my inventory, so don’t really need anything. But I will copy the wire rack in my cabinet for canned goods…great trick! 😊
