I just wanted to say thank you for all the help! I've watched your Calculus videos struggling through Calculus II and your organic chemistry videos striving through Orgo I and II. Thanks to you my grades for those classes have been amazing. :) The lowest grade I've gotten in those classes was a B! I have no clue how I'm going to manage Analytical Chemistry or Physical Chemistry without you! I'm going to miss your lectures! Thank you so much for all you do!

For everyone mentioning that 18:20 is incorrect. Here's whats going on: If you have p-Nitrotoluene, you can place the carboxylic acid where the CH3 is at. The only way this doesn't work is if the nitro group is added in meta with the pre-existing carboxylic acid on benzoic acid. Which is to say, the acylation must occur before nitration; not the other way around. So you will acyl transfer, then nitrate. Which means that it's possible to have the two meta to each other. He's right in this instance because of the existing methyl group. You can reference this on pg. 507-509 on the Organic Chemistry 11th edition Francis A Carey Robert M Guiliano textbook.

I don't know much English but I try to study with these videos and it would help me a lot if they add subtitles in Spanish.

I don’t have a final exam coming up but I do study this even now in high school. Ever since I started taking it I’ve been fascinated by it. It’s my favorite branch of chemistry. And your videos are really helpful, not only you’ve helped me with organic, but also with the other types of chemistry I am taking. Endless respect to you.

People forget that that's who I was when they don't take the time to think about my job search. That's why I went to Kansas State University to fight for students rights to access education.

At 18:20 Nitrobenzenes do not allow for friedel crafts alkylation or acylation, so I think this is wrong. The answer choice would still be wrong regardless.

my final is tomorrow. please someone answer my question but i am confused at 1:00:00. I thought the ester was an EWG so why is it directing things to go ortho and para, shouldn't it go meta?

The ring on the right is connected on the oxygen atom which is an electronegative atom, so it will donate electrons to the ring and is a o,p director. If we were to talk about the ring on the left the carbon will withdraw the electrons from the ring and you’d be right.

Is this For organic chemistry 2nd semester?

For question number 5, they ask to prepare a para nitrobenzoic acid, but in the answer isn't that an ortho compound?

at 1:02:00 the methyl groups would have a hydrogen atom as well, wouldn't that give off a peak on the H NMR?

mike tenie you are correct the methyl groups each contribute one peak and the benzyl hydrogens contribute the second one. Because the molecule is identical there are only 2 different types of hydrogens.
