Oreilly's NV4500 Transmission Teardown

Should you buy a diesel transmission from a parts store? Watch us teardown a Dodge Cummins NV4500 sourced from Oreilly auto parts. This transmission came to us from a large diesel performance company, still sealed in the crate with zero miles. The owner had to warranty the transmission and wanted to bring it to us for a clean slate. We got to tear into it and see how they show to your door and its pretty interesting!

So curious, how do you get the heavy damn thing up on your work bench? Going to assume it takes two.

So have you actually seen a cracked or damaged aluminum rear tail housing from use? Id take aviation form a gasket with a paper gasket or type 2 form a gasket any day over RYV.

Yes I have, there’s several transmissions that have come in the shop ran low on oil from cracked housings. We only build them with cast iron housings. For sealant, Permatex MaxFlex is our choice for nv4500s and it works great.

@@1g_dsm_life154 my concern is the consistency of a iron casting in india or china.

@@GregariousAntithesisI bought a super cheap one it was $100 dollars honestly the casting seems pretty nice and the sealing surfaces and machining all seems to be pretty nice It seems just as high quality as the original just heavier duty. I haven't noticed any leaking after my rebuild or anything.
