Oregon Overland Adventure - Following the Wagon Train Tracks
Oregon Overland Adventure - Following the Wagon Train Tracks
Another Coyote Works Jeep Overland Car Camping adventure! Join me as I search for more sections of the lost Willamette Valley Cascade Mountain Wagon Road. Along the way of this adventure I travel some of the most remote back country trails in Oregon discovering lost history, exploring, and camping.
Like in most of my videos I’ll share my gear, camp set ups, camp cooking, and all the beautiful scenery I encounter along the way.
Join me on Coyote Works for other videos of overland car camping and exploring the remote Oregon back country looking for lost history!
Hope you all enjoy!
Cheers,
Casey

Imagine living so far from anywhere! Seeing people every once in a while. The peace and quiet, and no drama!👍
Another great adventure. I truly respect that you chose not to continue down a road to keep from tearing it up. I wish more people would think like you.

I actually live on the Santiam Wagon road , between Sweet Home and Lebanon. It's paved of course. Unpaved above Soda Creek to somewhere above Snow Creek. Also called Santiago Military Road.

I knew today was a good day it’s my Friday and now a coyote works video can’t wait
I had a step grandfather that as a 7 year old with his dad and uncle take one of the Oregon trails back to Omaha Nebraska. They made the trip in 3 months. My grandpa’s job was to cook flapjacks and hitch up the team. He walked the whole way. He lived to be 100 just shy of his 101st birthday. So cool to see where he may have walked.

@@CoyoteWorks01 Love your videos Casey, I live down in Las Vegas and my family and I have been exploring more and more of the remote areas around Las Vegas. We recently went to a ghost town Rhyolite. Walking around buildings from over 100 years ago and seeing pictures of a street corner and see in picture of someone standing in the same spot from 100 years ago is amazing to see. You have inspired me to explore more and more remote as I get experience. Always look forward to your videos.
On a whim I switched over from my laptop to my smart TV to watch this video. The tv sound is piped through my surround sound system and I just wanted to confirm that the music is pumpin' on this video! Pretty cool accompaniment to the action on screen.

Great video as always. Made my day. I'm really glad you mentioned concerns about damaging the roads. We are having big discussions in this region about the overload of people taking up the hobby and the possibility of a dreaded pass/reservation system.
My wife and I live in Astoria. We were BOTH born and raised in Oregon. We would LOVE to go with you on one of your excursions, sometime.
It would be difficult to drive that wagon road in a Jeep today....Back in those times they had what were called "Promoters". These were people who developed a route and then "sold" the info to settlers. The Meeks route in Oregon and the Donner route in California are examples. The "Promoters" often never even scouted out and actually traversed the route they sold to unknowing people with a fully loaded wagon.
Awesome vid, the roads do look a little sticky out there.

Hey Casey! Good to see you out in the Jeep enjoying your time. Sorry you had to deal with the wind, sometimes it goes like that, but you made the best of it and still showed us a lot along the way. Those wagon tracks are interesting, and like you said, awe-inspiring to think of their history and who traveled on them. Dinner got my attention! Easy to prepare at home and looked really delicious served at camp. I hear ya about breakfast and just needing calories while dealing with the elements, in a hurry, and wanting to get going to explore. Keep living well, my friend. Happy Easter. And, I'll be looking forward to your next outing. Cheers! Pete - KI7LIL

Hi Casey. You're knowledge of Historic and Prehistoric resources is impressive.
So, apparently, I have stood in old wagon roads a number of times and wondered what the ditch was all about. Guess they aren't ditches! LOL Learn new things all the time, thanks!

Casey, I’m telling ya brother, I am so glad to see the Jeep again. In my eyes, it’s become synonymous with CW. I have always enjoyed your vids, and have gotten used to the Jeep. I absolutely loved this episode! Great work Casey. I can’t wait to hear more about the history of that wagon road. Could you add historical photos when you tell the stories? That would be awesome to feel what it was like back then. You are quite the storyteller. Ever since the Bill Brown episode I’ve been so excited to hear more stories about the people who called that desert home. So fascinating. Thanks for all you do.

Great video! The way the wagon trail changed over the years is really interesting. I thought those must have been really narrow wagons. The other neat thing was that ash/lava flow! That’s really cool.

Looks like a great trip! I just got back from a three day trip into eastern Oregon. 200 miles of bumpy two track. Some of those roads make you wonder why and how? Hope to see you on the trails soon! George.
Okay man! I'm subscribing! I lived in oakridge and went to school there and I got a taste of the history from some old-timers. There's a book published by Lane county historical called "Early days on the Upper Willamette." Check it out. I always heard about the old military road and we'd follow the RR access road up Salt Creek and look around. Great times. You should head a little west for some excursions. Into the trees. Keep up the good work!

Stumbled across this video today and as a geologist I was intrigued by the pyroclastic formation you came across. I plan to be in that area in June and was hoping you could show me the area or at least directions.
Do you ever/often run into other people out there on the trail? Seems very remote. How does the roof top tent handle in winds? Once again enjoyable video!
WOW!! I really would like to have a conversation with you. I just discovered your channel today. I live in Eastern Oregon, I'm a historian, Blacksmith for 30 years including for the National Park Service doing restoration and recreation work, and I've been tracing the Dalles military road for years. Part of the Dalles military road is just below my property. I've done a lot of exploring in the same areas as you have. Looks like we have similar interest, mine being history.
Hi love your video. Have you ever considered getting a diesel heater for your tent heating . Keeping on making great videos
Great adventure, Casey. Thanks for sharing it with us. Love the music in this video. What is the piece? It’s so soothing and peaceful.
I imagine the Meeks route would be hard to find. I believe it was only used once....
i am wishing that you could find a camp with rocks blocking the wind (well before dark!)
It would be interesting to see what a metal detector would find in some of the old camps

I’m pretty sure. There are a lot of them in that country. There are a lot of canyons and the draws and ravine’s have trees in them. There is a huge deer population in that area as well.
Are you ever able to document anything using your drone? Great video!
