Cleaning up an old red ORECK XL. It didn't need much work, but saved from going to the tip! Works well.

The motor head looked like a lunchbox when it was turned upside down! I can't believe how small that suction intake is! On this video you had 139 subscribers - look how many you've got now! Congratulations, Dorian.

I opened my powerless (mid-80s) Oreck XL9100C last night. One of two wires to the foot switch was somehow cut, the second was worn through the insulation. Once those were repaired, I decided to give the vacuum a thorough cleaning. Struggling to remove that lower tube and not completely sure how it came out, I ended up here. Your video demonstrated a twist and a little more muscle would do the job. I've ordered a new roller brush, as mine is worn and barely extending below the bottom plate. Thanks for the thorough video, and lending me "pip" and "manky." I dig useful new words.

I remember seeing them advertised every week in the Sunday newspaper supplement magazines, along with Bose sound systems and Proton cars 🤣

No idea if any response is given here after years but... my Oreck foot starter -> 21:24, the white button is sunk down in. Is there a spring replacement or some such? I haven't taken the switch apart.

  • @HooverLux

I try to 🤣. It could be the spring, but then again it could be the whole switch itself that’s given up. Open it up and take a look, if you’re in the states you have more chance of getting a replacement switch from a local vac store.

Great breakdown and reassembly but the volume sucks. I have noticed there are many youtube videos that the volume is too low to hear so you have to use earphones, just saying :-)!

It's a shame it didn't perform too well Dorian, but good demonstration nonetheless. It also looks incredibly easy to dismantle & put back together - much simpler than the average Kirby, but nowhere near as good performance lol. :-)

there are indicators for brush roll ware the notches 1 to 4, 1 being new, 4 way worn. Also since the pip is not working, a hole drilled and a small machine screw will fix the handle problem. Cheap and permanent fix.

Keith Millington Thank you, I will definitely use a screw to hold the tube in place, on my Graphite the brush roll indicators were easy to see, this seemed a bit complicated and not easy to tell, had to use my judgment on the brush roll holding it to a flat surface to judge the height. Hey ho
