Ordinary Guy Makes Whimsical Unicorn Cake 🦄

Ойын-сауық

What is the most ridiculous cake out there? My vote is for the Unicorn Cake. I remember the first time I ever laid my eyes on one in the wild. I believe it was in Prague... a tasty bakery where I had a delicious brunch. I laughed at the ridiculous window display unicorn cake, not knowing that one day our fates would collide. Well, here we are... I find this to be a big trend right now, making cakes of literally anything. This was my first attempt at such a thing. It nearly broke me, but I'll be ready for round 2...in time.

For the past 24 hours I've been watching your videos, thoroughly entertained while living vicariously through your adventures in the kitchen. I'm a diabetic with about a hundred food allergies, and a vegetarian at that so most of the things I've seen you make in the last 24 hours of viewing I could never have. But I love these videos and seeing you overcome the struggles. Granted this is an old video so you might never see this comment, but I thank you for making such wonderful content.

I like how he keeps calling the different piping tips "nozzles." It's extremely amusing. I've felt the way he feels every single time I make a cake. It sounds like a fun idea but it isn't. It's fairly infuriating. My husband can't understand why I am in the kitchen swearing and yelling the whole time I make a cake...he's like if you hate it that bad why are you doing it? He doesn't get it...it's because I saw it on KZread and it looked like FUN.

I’m trying to watch all the videos from the past to catch up to 2022. I’m almost getting tired of saying, “I love your channel!” Not having watched all of your videos, my suggestions would be: To make the American buttercream smoother and creamier, you can add heavy cream or milk. I’ve also used clear imitation vanilla-you get the flavor without the color that makes your icing yellow. If you want a stiffer buttercream, just add more powdered (icing) sugar. Butter is expensive! So, when necessary, I’ve used a combo of butter and shortening sticks (butter flavor). It’s smooth and creamy just like buttercream. To make frosting easier, put your cake rounds in the fridge. They aren’t as pliable and the frosting adheres easier. Make sure to do a crumb coat, then ice that for about 20 minutes before putting on your topcoat. Keep the cake in the fridge between steps, makes it so much easier to work with. I realize that I’ve probably come late to the party, but just in case you read or someone else needs the information …. Keep up the great work! I might be inspired to make a cake soon.

Always make double batches of frosting. Also you can add more sugar or liquid depending on what it’s looking like. The weather can affect it…humidity etc. you can also add a little cream of tartar to stabilize it. (Don’t add all the liquid at once, you may not need it all) Honestly I double my cake recipe too. It all freezes (frosting keeps well in fridge forever) well and you have cake and frosting if you need it…

About 2 years before this video, my dear, sweet daughter felt it necessary for my 65th birthday, to make a unicorn cake! As family legend told by my grandchildren goes, her attempts fell into the same realm as yours. My daughter, completely defeated by the abomination she had created, refused to present it at my party, and fell victim to the "easy fix". Enter Unicorn Cake from local "specialty cake" bakery. Paper unicorn horn gave it a child-like motif, and I felt a bit weirded out by that. Regardless, I told her I would have loved her creation, hideous or not. Sooooo... your video had me laughing so hard I had tears! Cakes are not meant for the faint of heart! Video was hilarious!
