When I first came across your video, I wondered how have I missed your videos all this while. I am now so invested in your learning curve with cooking/pastry art, kitchen setup, your videography.. I really enjoy your videos and your sense of humour that comes through in your editing. I could feel your frustration with the leaky gelatin and I admire your perseverance and trying to make do with utensils you have at hand. It is very relatable to me, an average home cook who doesn't have a springform cake tin lying around for the occasional cake/cheesecake. I like that you now have little inside jokes with your viewers, like the 🦄 cake appearances. I am excited for all the projects you will take up next. My favorite recipe of yours is the chocolate cake recipe!

I love your decorations! I just watched a tutorial on The Sugar Geek Show for a good tasting island cake btw. She piped ganache around the ring to help with leakage. It would be neat to watch you decorate more cakes. 😊

You could have let the jello chill and set half way and then spooned it into the ring. Or, you could have put the cake and jello into a bowl and used the cake ring to cut it into the right shape after it was set. I know. Now I tell you ...

As someone who in a prior job worked in a bakery as a dishwasher, that load of dishes was not bad, a whole crew can easily make a bigger mess :D Man, I felt you on the gelatin. At least in the end you got there.

Not that I would ever attempt to make this but... I wonder if adding just a small amount of jello to the mold, then chilling it quickly so it sets, and then adding the remaining jello would create like a seal at the bottom?

i think you were supposed to take plastic wrap and put it underneath the cake and then lift up the edges and tape them into place. But you got there! It looks great.

This is the first video of yours that I've seen and I love it 😁 Bro, I feel your pain. I tried an island cake at the weekend and it FAILED SO BADLY. Three times in a row it leaked. Fourth time it didn't leak but also didn't set. Fifth time I used store bought jelly and it also didn't set. Wut??? Wanted to cry. But I am determined to try again. Was using agar agar instead of gelatine because it uses so much less, and it's suitable for vegetarians. The way I finally sealed the cake was I used a spring form tin, and basically 'glued' a ring of acetate inside the tin with chocolate. But why the jelly didn't set? That's a mystery to me.

I'm also making island cake. The same thing happened. It made me upset because I had done all sorts of things, including what you had done, but not everything. Thank you for making this video, at least other people know it's not easy to make this cake. not to mention gelatin or jelly that does not harden.

After all the hassle with the jello, It came out so nice. I'd try it, but after one leak, I would get pissed and drop kick it.

Your cake ended up looking marvelous. Maybe buy your own island it would be a lot cheaper and easier. Personally I wouldn't be arsed making that thing. Next time you have to dye cooking crumbs try using flaked coconut instead it's way better. I do use the words phuck a duck loads. Great entertainment, once again thanks for the many giggles.
